Are you willing to do that in front of an audience? Chels and I were able to sit down tonight with Kurt and his manager to begin negotiations. We were not able to reach any agreement at this stage. Here's a couple of pics of the meeting: [IMG] [IMG]

a slight correction ant - your sentence should read: 'An unauthorised chels lookalike .......' I am currently in Auckland taking care of (more) sponsorship business.
Very happy to sell tickets to our meeting on the condition that eddie is not involved in any capacity.

Oh, how embarrassing! No wonder we couldn't reach an agreement. I thought you were a reasonable man Chels, but this imposter certainly wasn't.
What do you think has happened? I think Tippett must be behind it!
And when will you be available to meet? And what happened to my pics!?! They must have been moderated out :(

I think I was demanding Tom Mitchell or Nat Fyfe in return, but we ended up talking about other things, such as Ancient Greek mythology and the medicinal qualities of Retsina... I'm pretty sure we got nowhere in our negotiation, but I am sure it was decent entertainment for the crowd at the auditorium.

We've got the mid season trade period starting in a few days. Here's some players on the block for us. We will consider any reasonable offers for them, so please get in touch. We would particularly like to exchange them for draft picks if you can. Nick Lower Setanta O'hAilpin Sam Bleese Tom Murphy Jared Polec ... And we may add more names later.

Lids getting out to a bit of a lead, heading into the mid season break.
The players have 3 weeks off now and, as we are in WA, most are heading over to South East Asia for a holiday. Everyone is expected back in to Gariwerd before June 20th so that we can all take part in the Winter Solstice festival, before having a week of training before our next game. I will be taking care of the mid season draft and trades, delistments etc.

Gariwerd would like to commend Sam Bleese, who, with 3 delistments due to be announced in the coming days, must have felt his ORFFA career was on the line after finding it hard to break into Gariwerd's senior team over recent weeks.
While most of his teammates have gone on holiday during this mid season break, Sam decided to play a pickup game with Melbourne in the AFL and he provided an excellent highlight that may have extended his stay in Gariwerd.

Its been a huge couple of days in the ORFFA, with the Mid Season Trade Period closing today at 5pm AEST, and the Delistment deadline closing later tonight. There were a heap of trades processed and we have a few to announce involving Gariwerd. On top of the aforementioned trade that netted us Nicky Dal, we managed to confirm 4 more trades: melbandy wrote: After a fierce battle for the services of Taylor Walker, Ant and the Cockies have emerged victorious. He will depart the Nuffers for picks 11 and 20 of the MSD. hanks for your interest and good luck to you and your family anthak wrote: wow, Gariwerd have been busy :) Thanks for posting the Walker trade Melbandy. We are very excited to have a player with walking in his bloodline join the team for our annual walk to an away game next year :) We also have 2 more trades to announce, and another on the horizon... So, the first trade to announce is: Gariwerd sends: their 2nd round 2014 PSD pick, to Iron Knob; Iron Knob sends: MSD pick 18 and Cam Pederson, to Gariwerd. The 2nd trade to announce is: Gariwerd sends: Nathan Vardy, to Powlett Plains; Powlett Plains sends: their 1st round 2014 PSD pick, to Gariwerd. anthak wrote: anthak wrote:and there's more to come :) Here we go... Gariwerd are sad to see a very promising young midfielder leave in a trade just confirmed. We held out high hopes on Magner becoming a key figure in our midfield in years to come, but he is struggling for opportunities and we have had to part with him. We can confirm a trade that will send him to Venus Bay in what some may say to be an unnecessarily complicated deal, involving a number of draft picks. Lenny120 has been privy to the negotiations and would surely attest to the necessity of the included picks ;) Here's the deal: Gariwerd send: James Magner; MSD pick 42; 2014 PSD Round 1 pick (originally from Powlett Plains, acquired in the Vardy deal announced earlier today); and PSD Round 4 pick, to Venus Bay. Venus Bay send: MSD pick 33; 2014 PSD Round 2 pick; and 2014 PSD Round 3 pick, to Gariwerd. I think that will do me for this trade period :) less than 2 hours to go until deadline now... So, all up, from the 5 trades, this is the comings and goings: Leaving Gariwerd: MSD picks 6, 24, 42 and 60. 2014 PSD picks in rounds 2 (to Iron Knob), 3 (to Darraweit Guim) and 4 (to Venus Bay) Players Nathan Vardy and James Magner. Coming to Gariwerd: MSD picks 18 and 33. 2014 PSD picks in rounds 2 (from Venus Bay), 3 (from Venus Bay) and 4 (from Darraweit Guim) Players Cam Pederson, Taylor Walker and Nick Dal Santo
All in all, we are extremely pleased with how it has all played out overall. We have managed to keep a draft pick in each of the first two rounds of the upcoming Midseason Draft and in each of the first four rounds of the 2014 Preseason Draft, while gaining players of the caliber of Taylor Walker, Nick Dal Santo and Cam Pederson. I actually didnt even realise it was playing out that well at the time; not until summarising now.
We have already welcomed Nick, so now we would like to extend a warm welcome to Tex and Cam to the Cockatoos. [IMG] Tex is only 23 years old and if he can get over his current injury well, is likely to be a future superstar of the ORFFA!
[IMG] Cam Pederson is also an exciting prospect, at 26 years of age, he should be able to lock down that ruck/forward role that Setanta has been unable to so far this year. There is a slight difference in the aggression of the two players though: [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fu19rCXcWY' target='_blank' rel='nofollowhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fu19r...[/url [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxy5FqPap2U' target='_blank' rel='nofollowhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxy5Fq...[/url
Now that the trading is done and dusted, we have also announced our mid season delistments in readiness for the draft this weekend. anthak wrote: Gariwerd delistments. Setanta O'hAilpin Nick Lower Tom Murphy We are extremely sad to see these players depart. Nick has been with us for a year now and has performed solidly in that time, playing a number of games in our midfield this year, after an injury interupted first season with Gariwerd. His finest moment was his debut for Gariwerd last year after being traded in from Marble Bar mid season, where he finished clearly Best on Ground in an amazing debut. He also was awarded the coveted Byron Picket Shirt as our toughest player last season. Setanta and Tom both joined us at the start of this season. Setanta's finest moment was probably when he assisted us in removing Vickery from Gariwerd country in round 1 this year when Darraweit Guim attempted to play him, not knowing he is not welcome in the area. It was a very difficult decision to let Tom go as he has played for us almost all season and has acquitted himself admirably after a horrific performance in Round 4 when he was absolutely toweled up by Travis Cloke of Birdsville to the tune of 195 points! He has even filled in in our forward line a couple of times lately and played well. It is a very sad time to see him depart the club, but who knows, we may be able to find a way to squeeze him back in in the future. We will be making two selections in the upcoming MSD, at picks 18 (from Iron Knob) and 33 (from Venus Bay). And then we have two selections in the Squad Expansion Draft, at picks 5 and 32. Looking forward to it :) Thank you to all the players departing Gariwerd for your dedication to the Cockies - Nathan Vardy, James Magner, Tom Murphy, Setanta O'hAilpin and Nick Lower. Interestingly, Magner is the only one of the five that has been with Gariwerd since their inception.
We have been a bit slack with the mid season review... It will hopefully be done during the midseason break, or else we may need to flake on it.

Nick Lower and Setanta O'hAilpin were both members of the Leadership group this year too, so we are seeking expressions of interest from the players of who would like to take their places and we will make the announcement some time over the coming weeks.
But we do have a significant announcement to make right now...
Y'all probably put 2 and 2 together anyway, but we did not end up facilitating a trade for Kurt Tippett and he was not delisted. During Kurt's recent visit to Kalgoorlie with Waikikamoocow, we managed to convince him to recommit to the Cockatoos! :D
It cam as a bit of a shock to us and we are still a little confused how it came about, but Chels shed a little insight into a possible contributing factor why: chels wrote: correct weight Ant; many thanks for the very warm hospitality. When I saw Kurt's eyes in that second skimpy bar I knew my dreams of a trade were dashed.

Really commend your trade period efforts Ant - you've done really well, bolstered your team in a couple of areas and have parlayed picks expertly to get NDS and Walker. Send our regards to Nick Dal Santo as well. He seems to be settling in well with a 130 sc score in the weekend scratch match. Between him and Jack Newnes scoring 100, I had double smiles! Best of luck in the draft.

    Thanks Chris...
Now the MidSeason Draft is over and we are preparing for the Expansion Draft, where our first pick is #5.
We can welcome our two newest additions :)
At Pick 18, we selected Levi Casboult of the Carlton Football Club. Levi is a 23 year old big man, listed as a forward only but plays primarily as a ruck, so we will be looking to have his positional eligibility updated for next season. He has been developing nicely at Carlton and we think the time is right for him to step up into the ORFFA. He has a knack for taking big contested marks and kicking tough goals, so we will be looking forward to seeing him on the park for the Cockatoos playing our Marn Grook football. Levi has apparently gone on record as being happy to break the shackles he found himself in at Carlton ;) http://www.sportal.com.au/sss_content/aflplayer/00003178-image.jpg[/img]

With our final pick of the draft, at #33, we went with another big fella, selecting Shaun McKernan of the Adelaide Football Club. Shaun is also 23 and still has his best years ahead of him. He can play at both ends of the ground and also in the ruck, so it will be interesting to see his positional eligibility from year to year as well. At the moment, he is a fwd/ruck, so he and Pederson will likely be fighting it out for the same position in our first 15... in a trial type atmosphere, to see who can hold a spot on our list for 2014 and beyond.
