A couple of changes for the round 11 clash against the Croc’s, Watts moves to the forward line and new comer Jamie Cripps gets a nod for the emergency role. Another new fish in the squad is Sutcliffe who comes straight into the back line for the injured Frawley with Mohr putting his hand up for to be the emergency. Derickx gets the job as ruck this week while Nicholls is name emergency.

    Round 11 Wrap
Final Score Cow Bay (Croc’s) 1,164 def by Groote Eylandt (Barracudas) 1,300

    Welcome to the indigenous round.
After the mid-season bye rounds the Croc’s are hosting the Barracuda’s for the indigenous round.

A quick start by the Barracuda’s in the indigenous round after a good rest over the mid-season byes with solid performances across the ground. Murphy was on fire with his 30 disposals really showing who’s the best in defence. Frawley chipped in with 2 goals and 16 disposal as he combined well with Watt’s for one of his goals. New recruit Sutcliffe did well on the day.

Leading the way in the midfield was Cunnington, this guys is hot, hot, hot collecting 33 disposals and a goal. Hannebery wasn’t too far behind with his performance also kicking 2 goals and grabbing 30 disposals, he ran rampant on the Croc’s turf. Captain Cotchin had a solid performance collecting a goal and picking up 25 disposals.

Up in front of the big sticks Zorko displayed a superior slotting 2 goals and running all day with his 23 disposals, this kid is on fire. 3 goals from Goodes in a display from his youth roving the packs collecting 17 disposals.

Young Derickx got plenty of leather with 18 hit-outs and booting 2 goals slotting one from 53 meter out, well done to the big boy.
Even younger new recruit Jack Frost came in the Lewis who was a last minute out. Having a good run of the park and picking up a couple of kicks here and there.

A couple of changes for the round 12 clash against the Barcrawlers, Langford is back in the line-up in defence and Ball is ready to go as the interchange. This week Bontempelli and Frost have been omitted.

The Crawlers have snuck out of Thailand to share a drink, fish and what was the other thing ………. Oh yeah footy.

    Round 12 Wrap
Final Score Groote Eylandt (Barracudas) 1,297 def Banchang (Barcrawlers) 1,115

A massive start for the home team with Gibbs slotting through 4 gaols and collecting 29 disposal in a display of pure adrenalin. This kid is a bloody star. Again, Hannebery wasn’t too far behind Gibbs with his superior performance of 30 disposals. Cunnington chipped in with 17 disposals and a goal to boot. Cotchin had a quiet day on the turf with junk time in the last quarter to notch up 24 disposals.

Zorko received a heavy tag but was still able to have a great game with 19 disposals and a goal that he conjured up. Watts had a solid game, while Darling struggled even with a goal and Goodes received a lock-down tag from Cameron with limited those two players impact on the game.

After being a late out last week Lewis made up this week with an impressive running game grabbing 30 dispoals, he sizzled. Unfortunately the same couldn’t be said for Ball however he wore the green vest and came on late in the 3rd quarter.

In defence the dog of the day is ever reliable Murphy picking up 20 disposals, he really is the working class man. Burgoyne put in a strong performance with 18 disposals and Frawley with 14 disposals. Langford was a late out so Sutcliffe stepped in with a good game and 22 disposals.

Mohr and Mzungu had fantastic performances in the seconds and will be putting their hand up when the selection committee meet later this week.

It’s great to have a win on home soil, the local are serving it up to the Barcrawlers with a traditional brew.

A couple of changes for the round 13 clash against the Bunyips, Mohr get the job in the back-line in place of the omitted Langford. After wearing the green vest Ball will start as the emergency for the interchange. This week Bontempelli is named the emergency in the guts.

It’s a big drive down south to Blanchetown, the town folk might need to keep Bertie the Bunyip locked up for the weekend cause the Barracuda’s are coming.

    Round 13 Wrap
Final Score Blanchetown (Bunyips) 1,418 def Groote Eylandt (Barracudas) 1,174

A great start by the visitors to South Australia with Gibbs collecting 23 disposals and a quick goal even subjected to a tag he broke free and kicked on. Cotchin and Cunnington put in solid performances with 27 and 24 disposals. Hanneberry was dazed and confused with his 13 disposals but did manage a goal in a lack lustre performance.

Tim Mohr was on fire with his 19 disposal in defence and Burgoyne flitted in and out of the game but still raked up 17 disposals. Frawley put in another solid game with 2 goals and 16 disposals and Murphy was left to lick his wounds with a poor display this week collecting 17 disposals. Derickx made 28 hit-outs but his influence on the game was here nor there.

Young Jack Watt booted 2 goals and grabbed 17 disposals for the match with Zorko also getting 3 through the big sticks but only collected 9 disposals. Goodes kicked 3 goal however only 11 disposals and Darling was only had one leg with a poor performance with 11 disposals.

Lewis put in a great effort in pulling together 22 disposals for the day. Unfortunately the same couldn’t be said for Mzunga with a shocker 8 disposal count.

Too many below average performances across the ground for the Barracuda’s; including especially Mzunga as he squandered his opportunity given to him by Ball.

The Cuda’s came into the match with high expectations and left with a fishy taste in their mouth.

Some note worthy performances in the seconds was young Jones, Bontempelli, Sutcliffe & Ball.

A couple of changes for the round 14 clash against the Grenades, with the injury to Hannebery, Bontempelli will hit the ground in the guts. Also another debut is Jones up front with Goodes being named as the emergency. Ball comes back into the interchange position this week as well with young Frosty getting the emergency nod.

The Barracuda’s will be looking for redemption after last week smacking in SA as it was their poorest performance to date. We’ve sent out the message to all Groote Eylandt inhabitants to get down to the oval and cheers on the “Cuda’s”. The home town advantage is in need.

    Round 14 Wrap
Final Score Groote Eylandt (Barracudas) 1,106 def by Gisborne (Grenades) 1,214

Back to the slow starts for the Barracuda’s. The midfield were solid in their performances lead by Gibbs kicking a goal and collecting a valuable 28 disposals as he continues to be a shining light for consistency. Cotchin was on fire early in the piece collecting 33 disposals but waned in the second half of the match. Young Bontempelli put in a stellar performance picking up 24 disposals and booting a goal, this kid has got the goods.

Lewis put in a fantastic effort in pulling together 27 disposals for the day in an inspirational performance and Ball ran well all day picking up 22 disposals as they battled the visitors on every square inch of the ground. Darling showed he has what it takes in front of the sticks booting 3 goals and picking up 14 disposals, this kid is really good. Watts made a gallant effort grabbing his 23 disposals after a knee to the back.

Too many below average performances (again) across the ground for the Barracuda’s; including especially in defence Burgoyne, Murphy, Frawley, and Mohr got blasted by their opponents. Well down on confidence was Zorko and Jones with not many possessions and no goals between them. Derickx struggling with his fitness as he was tall with his 20 hit-outs but that was about it.

With the second loss in-a-row and the worst score for the year, yelling and screaming will be the order of the day at the match review and selection committee’s. As the hype of the year ahead has now all but vanished.

Some note worthy performances in the seconds was Mzunga, Goodes, Kersten & Frost.

The Barracuda’s have hit an all-time low with their home turf loss; this will be a make or break game for the club as teams now head toward the Holy Grail.

    Round 15 Wrap
Final Score Eden (Whalers) 1,234 def by Groote Eylandt (Barracudas) 1,320

The Barracuda’s backline was solid this week with increased performances across the board. Murphy, Frawley, Mohr and Burgoyne all obtaining 20 plus disposals, laying tackle after tackle and some pace with Burgoyne even getting one through the big sticks at the other end of the ground.

Zorko again was the spark up front leading the way with a goal and 20 disposals. Darling and Watts both kicked a goal each but only had 12 and 19 disposals which wasn’t good enough given the spray they copped from last week’s performances. Young Liam Jones had an absolute shocker collecting just 1 disposal before being dragged from the field.

Another fantastic performance from Lewis, on fire and picking up 28 disposals and booting 2 goals. He’s a class act and he showed us all about it with his second from the left pocket. Ball had a solid game slotting 2 goals as well and collecting 17 disposals. Unfortunately Derickx didn’t make it on the field so Goodes stepped in and did his best tapping out.

However the main attraction was Captain Cotchin as he caused carnage across the oval with his personal best as he racked up a massive 31 disposals slammed through 5, that’s right 5 goals. Our opponents thought we had cloned him and put up a protest that there were too many Cotchin’s to catch. Inspired by his captain young Bontempelli followed suit collecting 17 disposals and kicking 2 of his own, one of which will be nominated as goal of the year as he snapped true from deep in the pocket. Cunnington and Gibbs also performed well with their disposal tally of 19 and 25 including a straight one from Bryce.

During the week our cousins further to the north in Papa New Guinea could hear the spray’s from the coach. It shocked the Cuda’s into action as we went from our worst score for the year to our highest.

Goodes moves up front to replace Jones who’s been omitted. Ball has also been omitted so Mzunga fills void the as the inter-change and young Cripps gets the nod and is named as the emergency.

The Barracuda’s are buoyed from last week’s win and are looking to continue this form at home with the visiting Manangutan.

    Round 16 Wrap
Final Score Groote Eylandt (Barracudas) 1,241 def Manangutan (Orangutans) 614

The home team got off to a big start with Captain Cotchin again on fire picking up a massive 37 disposals leading the Barracuda’s at every quarter. Young Bontempelli also backed up his performance from last week with 2 goals and 21 disposals this kids is an absolute star. Cunnington was solid with 17 disposals and Gibbs was locked down with a heavy tag and collected only 14 disposals.

Another fantastic performance from Lewis picking up 22 disposals and booting a goal. His consistency is his weapon of choice. Mzungu slotted 2 goals in his return to the field, he also collected 20 disposals. Derickx still on walk about so young Frost chipped in but had no real impact on the game.
Defence were solid all round being led by Frawley with his 17 disposals, Burgoyne and Mohr were great, Burgoyne got one through the sticks and grabbed 22 disposals with Mohr collecting 12 disposals. Murphy picked up the crumbs with his 17 disposals.

Zorko is his role as a small forward ran on even after a tweak on his ankle in the 3rd quarter. He threaded 2 goals and picked up 21 disposals. Darling increased his out this week including kicking the first goal of the game and collected 17 disposals. Goodes was on fire today slamming through 3 big goals and gathered up 10 disposals. Unfortunately for Watts he underperformed but still managed a goal and picked up 17 disposals.

Young Bontempelli struggled but still had some moves in slotting his goal and finding 16 disposals.

No goals this week for Zorko however to his credit he played an impacting role pushing out 26 disposals. Darling cracked one but could only manage 16 disposals. Goodes threaded 2 goals and picked up 16 disposals. Unfortunately for Watts his was heavily tagged by Taylor and could only muster up 12 disposals.

Defence were solid all round being led by Murphy this week collecting 22 disposals, Frawley with his 17 disposals, Burgoyne was solid picking up 18 disposals and even putting one through the sticks. Mohr could have done more with his 14 disposals.

    Round 18 Wrap
Final Score Groote Eylandt (Barracudas) 1,352 def by Pakenham (Parasites) 1,407

    Full Time

A slower start to the second half by both teams however the home side scores first with Darling cracking 2 through the sticks but could only manage 10 disposals. Zorko booted 2 goals and then cherry picked around the packs and collected 32 disposals to push him up the Gus leader board. Goodes bagged 4 big ones and picked up 16 disposals.

Burgoyne collected 23 disposals and even booted a goal in a switch up to the midfield. Langford grabbed 17 disposals for the game however it was still an under performance in the scheme of his overall game plan. Young Frosty came in at the last minute to do the tapping.

Lewis smashed out 35 disposals this guys is a massive star running all day and the giving the fans what they came for. Capitan Cotchin was under lock and key with a heavy tag and could only muster up 15 disposals however he did squeak a goal in there.

Unfortunately the win went to the visitors even though the Barracuda's performance was the best so far this year.
