Wasn't sure whether to post this in the position focus - midfield topic or here, but it's a good read on Kerr and where he is at
DANIEL Kerr is back in full training but the Eagles won't take any chances with their star midfielder. Kerr, who hasn't played since tearing his hamstring in Round 1 last year, will again be a spectator for Sunday's NAB Cup quarter-final clash with Gold Coast in Perth.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...star-daniel-kerr/story-e6frf9jf-1226011476331 I have a feeling they've made a mistake with the "round 1 of last year" remark though. I could have sworn he did his after Roo and Gibbo did theirs.
Alwyn Davey - Essendon (broken arm for the third time!)
Davey, 26, starred in Essendon's 39-point win over Melbourne in the NAB Cup qualifying final on Thursday night, but the club confirmed on Saturday that the livewire forward had suffered a hairline fracture
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/108401/default.aspx It doesn't sound too bad, but the poor guy is having some rotten luck. 3 broken arms to date and an ACL rupture.
Just saw this on The Australian website this morning: "Coleman medallist Jack Riewoldt is also likely to miss Friday's trial game after landing awkwardly at training last week and sustaining bone bruising in his knee. Richmond denies Riewoldt has any serious damage and expects him to be at peak fitness within a fortnight, and ready to take the field for the first time this year during the practice match circuit." If you google bone bruise you will see that it is described as "one step before a fracture" and looks a hell of a lot more serious than a "jarred knee" as previously reported. The official Tiger report was "no structural damage", but does that rule out bone bruising and several weeks of problems? He did his left knee, is that his kickin' leg? I will be keeping an eye on whether Jack plays any more pre-season games.
Hamish McIntosh - North Melbourne
NORTH Melbourne won't put a date on the return of Hamish McIntosh after he was told he needs a second operation on an injured achilles tendon. The Kangaroos ruckman was on the comeback trail from surgery on the achilles tendon in his right foot when he discovered he would need surgery on his left leg as well.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...-hamish-mcintosh/story-e6frf9jf-1226014224041
has anybody heard how CHAPMAN,HODGE,SANDILANDS are tracking.heard their pre-season hasn,t been flash!yes, all are in my side ATM any info greatly appreciated!
Hodge had his training scaled back for a couple of weeks as a result of a niggle but is more than back on a full load. What you'll find is most players will only play 2 sometimes 3 of the nab cup games, so those who havent played yet (ie Hodge) will more than likely play the remaining two. Quite often, the first two games are used to trial the youngsters/fringe players, with many of the senior blokes preferring to have their run closer to the season proper (games 3 and 4 of the nab). Look for the more seasoned players who are yet to have a proper hit out all return this week unless carrying injuries.
Nick Malceski - Sydney Swans (Knee-LARS op.)
Sydney Swans defender Nick Malceski will undergo LARS reconstruction surgery tomorrow, after injuring his right knee at training today. It is the same knee Malceski injured in February 2008, when he became the first AFL player to undergo a LARS reconstruction. He successfully returned to the field in round eight that year.
http://www.sydneyswans.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7106/newsid/108752/default.aspx
Michael Gardiner was placed on Long Term Injury List yesterday. So not able to be play until at least round 6...
Kurt Tippett and Ricky Henderson (Adelaide)
ADELAIDE has lost key forwards Kurt Tippett and Ricky Henderson to injury in the opening minutes of its practice match against Carlton. Tippett went down with an ankle injury seven minutes into the match at Visy Park. He hobbled from the field and appeared in intense pain. Only minutes later Henderson was knocked out cold in a heavy collision. Play was held up for several minutes as Henderson was stretchered from the field in a neck brace.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/double-blow-for-crows/story-e6frf9jf-1226016034677 Additional (5:20): Injury clouds over Bernie Vince and Ian Callinan (Adelaide) and we're only at half time in this practice match. Iced right bicep for Callinan apparantly.
The practice match is turning into a nightmare for the Crows, with injury clouds over midfielder Bernie Vince and forward Ian Callinan.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/double-blow-for-crows/story-e6frf9jf-1226016034677 Update: (5:30) Kurt Tippett only a rolled ankle (1-2) Ian Callinan bicept torn off bone (6-10) Bugger about Callinan
Also to come out of the Crows v Blues game yesterday, was the (more than likely) season ending knee injury to Brodie Martin from the Crows. I had him in my MID after a great pre-season too date...now I have to find replacements for him and Callinan
