As the only female coach and owner of a team in this league, I saw it only fitting to chance a few things about the team that was Far Kew Frogs and try and make it as girly as I could. So I am proud to present the Lovely Banks Lilacs <img alt='' width='299' height='323' src='/Portals/0/User%20Images/Lilacs.png[/img] From the area north of Geelong, the relocated Lilacs franchise is ready to make an impact in the ORFFA in 2013. Our 2013 team list is: BRL Jed Adcock DEF ESS Jake Carlisle DEF MEL Jack Grimes DEF GCS Jared Brennan DEF GEE Josh Hunt DEF SKT Dylan Roberton DEF ESS Tayte Pears DEF GEE Jed Bews DEF COL Adam Oxley D/F GEE Paul Chapman F/M WCE Sharrod Wellingham F/M SYD Craig Bird F/M HAW Brendan Whitecross F/M FRE Hayden Ballantyne FWD MEL Aaron Davey FWD ESS Jason Winderlich FWD STK Beau Maister FWD STK Josh Saunders D/M COL Dane Swan MID ADE Scott Thompson MID GEE Mitchell DUNCAN MID GEE Josh CADDY MID CAR Kane LUCAS MID GEE Joel Corey MID SYD Dane Rampe MID HAW Jonathan Simpkin MID NTH Majak DAW RUC SYD Mike Pyke RUC We did have some trouble convincing a few of the players to wear our new guernseys - Dane Swan, Paul Chapman and Sharrod Wellingham weren't all that keen on the light purple and dark purple stripes. But we were lucky Hayden Ballantyne and Kepler Bradley were able to sell the powers of purple guernseys to their teammates and convince them to give them a chance. The Lilacs have a good mix of youth and experience, with a strong midfield led by Dane Swan and Scott Thompson one of the highlights. New recruits Matthew Watson, Joel Corey, Beau Maister (Wilkes) and Majak Daw will strengthen the team in 2013. Our recruiting has targeted a number of Geelong players to help make sure none of them end up homesick and want to leave when their contracts are up. We look forward to battling it out for the ORFFA premiership in 2013.

Welcome Jen, its great that you were able to jump in so quickly and make your mark. Good to have another newbie onboard too (even though the circumstances that led to us new franchisees arriving was not ideal).
Bring on the Purple Reign! (or Rain depending on yr musical persuasion) :)

Welcome Lilacs... my team will do their bets to ensure that they are relatively clean before stepping into the change rooms!

Thanks everyone - I just had to girl it up as I am the only female in this league.

It is now his legal name, after all. Similar ruck divisions between the ORFFL (Poowong Potoroos) and the ORFFA Lilacs, we both have Pyke at R1 and Daw in reserve. Noice!

Pyke, I thought, did particularly well. Very underrated Canadian.

We have a proposal/suggestion, from across the Tasman as it happens. I would like all coaches to vote on this, but will consider 9 as a majority. The proposal is that we imitate the AFL and give the Lilacs some priority draft picks. Jen is not at fault for her current line up (and neither is BB). The team she has inherited is not, at the moment, one that can be competitive. In suggesting this, I probably need to also make it crystal that I do not adhere to the ORFFL concept of seeking an evenness amongst the 18 teams. I hold to free enterprise, but the Lilacs are drooping a bit at the moment. Perhaps should also add that this is a once-off and only would be considered again should similar circumstances arise. Hopefully we can prevent that. So, what I am seeking at this point in time is should we give some priority draft picks to Jen to help lift her team? Yes or no. What I had in mind was #1 and #4 at the mid-season draft, and #1 at next year's pre-season draft, with the proviso that Jen can also trade the mid-season picks between now and the draft, reducing her squad prior to the draft. This is something we can bandy around and stick your comments here by all means, but for the moment, let's decide yes or no.

Good. Thanks. How we deliver (if we deliver) might also be somewhat dependent on how the team is faring come mid season as well.

Maybe we should make another thread for this, grabs more attention which is what it deserves, also for what its worth, I'm for the idea of priority picks, but like Ant, have separate ideas for what picks to give and when to give them.

I'm pretty happy with the concept tho from my understanding it is more about compensation for potential rookie talent missed during the pre season draft, yes? On paper, Jen's team looks reasonably competitive for this season (reckon some coaches might argue they have a poorer side). Please correct me if I'm off track here.

I dont think this is the worst team at all. Far better than a lot of others imo. But due to what happened in the draft, I am in favour of having priority picks to compensate. I think 1 pick in midseason draft directly after Jen's actuall first pick; and pick 7 in the 2014 preseason draft, because it was pick 7 that was passed/skipped this season. Was that the only pick (#7) that was missed this year before BB took over?

Agree as well that I don't think the lilacs are the worst in the comp, some other teams look worse, still can't see the harm in giving them a priority pick in the mid season draft, and giving back pick 7 seems sensible and fair. My 2c

am delighted that the discussion I hoped would arise when I suggested we talk about this to TiB is happening. I made the observation in the spirit of every subject being up for discussion and in akaizen (??) sort of way. Hopefully everybody in ORFFA feels interested enough to raise any idea, no matter how weird, that might add to our shared experience / enjoyment.
I am a consensus sort of guy (well today I am) and reckon we are getting somewhere by focussing on the lost opportunity rather than the sagacity of previous picks. (Sagacity rather than quality was inserted as Fitzy's word for the day.)
The exact quantum is hard to agree on but worth discussing. I would prefer to see some real honesty in the points of view than a strict adherence to the middle (don't rock the boat) ground.

I think the idea is apt and broadly I agree with it. My primary concern with the idea (as ventured) is that if Jen isn't coming last at the mid or end point of the season, it's hard to argue she should get the #1 picks over whomever is and be fair to them. I am on board with the suggestion she gets pick 7, if she happens to be coming 11th she can also have 7a I guess, but maybe this is a good idea that we park until we are another 8 weeks down the track? Jen could be top 4 by then and she rightly gets nothing :) I don't think I could be behind an idea that gives the #1 pre-season pick to anyone other than the team that finished last, the mid season is different, but bear in mind the top 10 picks in that draft aredisproportionatelybetter than the bottom 10, so the balance needs to be weighed.
