    After recovering from google imaging 'cod piece' I am now ready to introduce the new franchise of Iron Knob.

    Located on the Eyre Peninsula in SA Iron Knob is the birthplace of Australia's Steel Industry, I know that as it says so on this sign.

    <img src="http://www.laurasinclair.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/day15-032.jpg" />

    A picturesque place of flowers and birds, it rivals Terry's Whitsunday location in all regards! Players from opposing teams will love spending time in their own personal mines as we dont have any hotels.

    <img src="http://www.mininghistory.asn.au/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/iron-knob.jpg" />

    Gary Ablett Jnr was interviewed soon after being picked 2nd by the Codpieces.

    "Well honestly I was thrilled to be picked by Iron Knob, I mean the uniforms alone are a HUGE draw card for potential new players"

    <img src="http://blogs.coventrytelegraph.net/thegeekfiles/Judge&#37;20Dredd&#37;20Stallone&#37;20cod&#37;20piece.jpg" />

    Coach Jim can be seen here marshalling the troops at one of their recent training sessions

    <img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_TiqKRgLIW6Y/SUCFlkgsGjI/AAAAAAAAGmc/O3-ouQpZhFM/s400/nekkid-old-man-codpiece.jpeg" />

    So join with me in wishing Iron Knob all the best in their first season in the ORFFA!

    Well, certainly we wish you all the best! But, um, do we have to play underground? And, um, aren't you a bit far from the sea for cod?

    The Codpieces are delighted to welcome their prize 2 midfield signings at #35 Ryan Griffen comes to the mines and joining him at #38 young gun Luke Shuey.

    Teaming with GAJ in the guts the Knobs have a solid young and potentially lethal midfield even after 3 picks.

    Rucks? who needs rucks!

    well jimbowan it completely explains why the afl requires the white maggots to give a free for "in the back"

    pick
    71 - Todd Goldstein
    74 - Will Minson

    107 - Jack Darling
    110 - Jack Riewoldt

    The Cods' sorted their starting rucks by quickly jumping on Goldy and Big Will in a dwindling ruck pool and then did the same in a similarly dwindling forward pool picking up the young gun Jack's - Darling and Riewoldt, to hold down the forward line for years to come.

    Jack seems to be a popular moniker at Iron Knob.

    at pick 143 the codpieces were proud to land young gun Pearce Hanley, Pearce and Iron Knob were a match made in heaven, although a tad uncomfortable.

    At 146 there was much mirth and mocking after the Cods took Nathan Jones, but we like the baldie, yes he looks 35 goin on 23 but he has been a consistent SC scorer and likes to kick a goal, we hope he can make the 4th mid spot his if not then at least on interchange.

    And it's going to stay 20 minutes down the road. Forget all this talk of mergers.

    Welcome fellow Iron Knobian! :) Do we have an oval? management werent able to tell me if we have an oval or not!

    At pick 179 we welcome our second defender Nathan Grima! HAs a bit of injury history but when healthy is one of the top backs in the comp and we are lucky to get him.

    At pick 182 we welcome the ball magnet Michael Rischitelli to Iron Knob, we all know what Risky can do and we are looking forward to his chemistry with GAJ showing up on the oval (or mine)

    The Cods have added Paul Puopolo, Jarrod Harbrow, Rhys Palmer, Richard Douglas, Brandon Matera and Luke Breust to their growing squad with emphasis on young ball magnet types who can bag a goal!

    The squad is shaping up and Looking good for 2012

    Not sure I approve of the tactics to keep the boys in the team hotel after curfew whilst on tour

    They need to be input through here http://tooserious.net/ORFFA.php whilst logged in as yourself, not the admin account. we spotted the team post though and X said as it was posted well before lockout he was including it due to the last minute nature of the team entries this week, so all good :)

    WEEK 1 v FOUL BAY

    Week 1 saw the Iron Knob team catch the bus down to the foulest of bays to play the rotten chickens. Morale was high and the team were excited to get the season underway with a good result.

    The starting line up for week 1 was a strong squad.

    BACKS - Hanley, Garland, Puopolo and Surjan. The Surj was a bit lucky to get a run as he had been terrible on the track but with Harbrow (lti) and Grima (1 week) out the cods were a bit thin up back

    MIDS - Ablett, Griffen, Shuey, Rishitelli. A strong young midfield is the pride of Iron Knob and the fans were keen to see the little master team up with young guns Shuey and Griff.

    RUCK - BIG Will Minson. With Todd Goldstein lacking match fitness the call was made to go with big will, god look after the poor locals after the game if he gets loose in town.

    FORWARDS - Riewoldt, Darling, Lycett and Bruest. The Cods decided to go with 3 talls up forward this week and the game plan is to bomb it long into the goal square!

    INTERCHANGE - Jones and Palmer. Baldie Jones and young gun Rhys Palmer will add good run off the bench.

    EMERGENCIES - Mackay, Henderson and Pedersen

    The game was hard fought from the outset with our midfield dominating as was expected. Gaz, Griff and Shuey had a field day but were sorely let down by surrounding cast! Riewoldt and Bruest bagged the goals up forward but a pathetic showing from Lycett and Darling hurt the team bad. Up back Surjan was a liability all game and Palmer burned the ball worse than we thought possible and on top of all that Hanley and Puopolo got BOTH vested due to injury in a bizaare double sub swindle.

    The boys played well but went down 1298 -1148

    SCORES

    hanley 81
    surjan 40
    puopolo 59
    garland 66

    ablett 125
    griff 123
    shuey 110
    rischi 70

    minson 71

    riewoldt 96
    darling 47
    lycett 32
    breust 91

    jones 84
    palmer 53

    TOTAL - 1148
