    Week 2 v Gundagai

Week 2 was The Codpieces first home game and excitement stirred the town awake with an expected crowd of about 50 making the journey out to the ground! Gundagai head coach Snoz was said to be fuming with the state of the oval but local officals calmed him finally claiming the Granite outcrop up forward was actually much smaller than last year.

The game was all about speed and the knobs showed they had plenty of it with Breust, Ablett, Griffen, Shuey and Hanley all running with freedom and racking up big scores for Iron Knob.

The game went down to the final minutes of the last quarter with Luke Breust finishing off his classy performance, and finishing off Gundagai with a wrong footed banana from on top of the Granite outcrop to seal the game, Iron Knob 1336 v Gundagai 1300

LOL good work Bandit! we are looking forward to the battle of the bulge(s) this week!

Iron Knob have gotten their inspiration from Battlefield Earth, we will be wearing full leather uniforms with obligatory bulge protection and all players have been instructed to wear braided wigs, Gaz looks particularly special.

Love the commemorative uniforms guys. What a great game this would be to watch. Have the players had a chance to practice in their temporary attire?

    Week 3 v Charlie's Opening

The Knob was looking to smash into the Opening from the first sniff, over and over and over was coach Jim's message. Keep smashing the Opening!

So the boys went out all keen for a bit of action having gained confidence from their good win last week v Gundagai. It was another impressive display from the Codpieces with 7 x 100 point scorers (and 3 x 90's) this round and a couple of huge efforts led by Big Todd Goldstein, Jack Riewoldt, Luke Shuey, Pearce Hanley and the rest of the Cods followed suit.

Codpieces 1450 v Spelunkers 1363 was the final score with the crowd going mental as their lads moved to 2-1 and 4th on the ORFA ladder.

Enjoyed the game, and even though the opening was being smashed, they never gave up and kept pushing back

    ROUND 10

A crushing 1419 - 1426 defeat against Mt Beauty really hurt the boys in round 10. Some huge scores went to nothing as Riewoldt (187), Ablett (155), Jones (130), Goldstein (127), Grima (120) and Minson (107) couldnt get the boys accross the line.

Mike Rischitelli (23) took the brunt of the blame. Supposedly a workhorse midfielder he has been terrible in recent weeks and had a shocker in this loss. After the game he was beaten in the showers by Big Will Minson and then tarred and feathered and forced to wear a 1kg rock attached to his codpiece all week. Its tough love at Iron Knob.

ROUND 11 - BYE ROUND OF DEATH

It seems NO bye planning went into selecting this team as I had a staggering amount of players out! Still Iron Knob managed to scrape out a win in terrible conditions against Nunawading to secure a 546 - 536 victory! Playing 1 short it was a gutsy win by the Codpieces.

They celebrated afterwards by beating Rischitelli some more.

Also congrats to Jacob Surjan for playing his first ever game in the ruck!

This takes the boys to 3-2 and 5th on the ORFFA ladder.

Sorry, I was a bit late in posing that question. At the Cockatoos we are always on the lookout for new innovative methods of coaching, but we see that Risky put in another shocker last round anyway. Will be interesting to see if it pays of long term though.

    ROUND 12

After a sub-par week Gary Ableeeetttttt Jnr was keen to put his critics in their place and unfortunately for Namatjira that equaled a magnificent 188 point outburst off 53 possessions from the champ and club captain. He stepped up and dragged the boys across the line for a 984-877 win.

"F*ck Breust that guy is a spud no way he wins the Codpiece best and fairest" the champ responded post game.

Also of note Nathan Grima continued his awesome form and has repaid the faith shown by GM Jim when selecting him in the ORFA draft, averaging 106 over his last 5 and his 126 in this game was another fine performance.

ROUND 13 - Last of the Byes thank god!

    Ablett has the bye! eeeek!

But dont fear Knob lovers! Another win! Iron Knob move to 3rd on the ORFFA ladder with a 5-2 record at the expense of the Warriors! Thats 3-0 over the bye rounds for the Codpieces and a fine roll they have going!

It was actually a pretty lame effort from the boys from the Whitsundays who were thoroughly crushed 861 - 554.

Pearce Hanley turned around his awful form of the last 2 weeks with an inspired 151 point explosion and he received good support from Grima, Griffen, Jones and Goldy.

Been very amiss of me not to keep this thread somewhat updated, I know Terry in particular would be very disappointed in Iron Knob management for such an indiscretion. Got to keep those page hits updating!

Where to start? Well the Cod's finished the season very strong with (if I recall correctly) a 13 game winning streak to end the season and finish 2nd behind the undefeated Foul Bay.

Probably a championship caliber season if not for the undefeated Chickens with an overall record of 15-2! With finals in place we could have easily taken it to the foul birds and maybe come out on top.

The MVP was inexcusably forgotten about during the course of the year, but we are proud to announce Gary Ablett jr as Iron Knob MVP for 2012. He had a great season and some amazing scores down the stretch all but assure he would have taken home the award in a formal count.

Now time for some trade talk and possible delistings. A few guys on the squad should be extremely nervous! Although the core of the squad performed above expectations and will obviously be retained.

Hey JimBowen, I'm currently on a road trip on my way from Perth to Brisbane. We originally planned to camp in Kimba tonight, but just this morning, a mate of mine (who had left Perth 6 days earlier than us, but headed for Melbs) called me up to let me know about a free camping ground that he stayed at. And it was at none other than Iron Knob! Since it was only an hour further than where we originally planned to camp, I couldn't resist the opportunity to go and scope out the oppositions turf for our round 6 match in 2013.

And it's been a fantastic reccie too! As Round 6 is BL Remembrance round, the Cockies plan to walk to Iron Knob as we did to Namatjira last season, so it's great to find out that there's a free camping ground for the boys to sleep at while we're there. With a BBQ, toilets, shower and all!

I'm looking fwd to our trip already.

laughing so loud I almost dropped my tasting glass of a slightly wooded Chardonnay the Waikiks are thinking of introducing - the 'slightly suspect deal'. I cannot get over how 'fringe' the fringe players are.
