Hahahaha - the Hoppers will gladly sit back and watch you accumulate porridge stirring wooden utensils!!!
Waikick (17th on the table) supporters heard taunting Lefty (18th on the table) drunks with rousing (almost tuneful) renditions of that old standard "Can we play you, can we play you, can we play you every week. Can we play you every week."
This sub 700 stuff is bloody hilarious! One at a time kids no need push. Thankfully (for the sake of fair play and teeth grinding) this isn't a percentage league.
It’s 2018 but why is this tunnel still so dark? Yep, 12 months on and the churn continues in earnest. New Arrivals Will Hayward – joined mid-season and played outstandingly for a first-year rookie forward. Holding his own amongst men. Jordan Dawson – as plied his wares in the NEAFL for a while now and has done everything imaginable to warrant selection. The natural Lefty has played one AFL game for an uninspiring 32 but is on track for significant gametime this year. Rhys Mathieson – the brains trust were uber-bullish on chasing this guy. Beast-like numbers in all the right categories and a vacant Lions mid spot beckoning. Trent Dumont – another young bull trending in the right direction and looking to cement an engine room gig with the departure of Spitta. Angus Brayshaw – his acquisition has polarised fans and foes but has talent in barrow-loads. Didn’t put a foot wrong on his return from successive concussions. Just ask Koby Stevens. Josh Daicos – no secret that small forwards are marginal investments in the SC world but we like this kid’s pressure and zip. Giving up Pick 73 was a fairly risk-free investment. Josh Begley – the “Fridge” has been installed front and centre in the Lagoon clubrooms. The man-child wants to become a midfielder. We’ll give him every chance to fulfil his dreams. Darcy Cameron – Horse says he’s a ways off yet, but since when have we started trusting the musings of AFL coaches? A training mishap away from an R2 callup. Brayden Ainsworth – another natural Lefty joins our ranks. Despite having his detractors, this kid has the right attributes to keep our engine ticking over in the long term. Nicholas Shipley – a perfect specimen of a modern-day midfielder. Will have to bide his time before getting a run but has the skill set to match many. Ben Paton – “The Interceptor” has arrived. Cundalini will be sweating. Jake Patmore – young Jake brings new meaning to “ball-on-string” with one permanently grafted to his right boot. Huge talent. Might see a game in 2020.
Lefties 2018 post season hosedown Defence Duryea - tough year, struggled to break into the majors, probably deadwood. Grade D Brayshaw - stellar season, repaid faith after a controversial arrival at start of year. Grade A+ McKenzie - cemented a spot after some good work in the 2s, solid. Grade B Cole - devastating start for the kid but has been rock solid since round 5. Grade B Paton – nice work in the 2s, quiet on debut in round 21, only a pup, needs more time. Grade C O'Riordan - had been knocking on the door with a sledge hammer, Horse finally woke up, should become a regular. Grade B Perryman - held his own in a handful of games, kept out by injury, excellent form in the 2s. Grade B Midfield Ross - consistency still a weakness but has held his own and shown great durability. Grade B+ Phillips - was tracking as a major breakout but has tailed away a bit in the second half of the season, good signs nonetheless. Grade A Berry - no second-year blues here, finishing off like a house on fire. Grade A Weller - hasn't kicked on like we had hoped but not a terrible year. Grade B Dumont - improved in the back end of the season, perhaps suffered early by emergence of Jedi and high mid rotations. Grade B Ainsworth – debuted with a few games for the year, thown in the guts, did us proud. Grade C+ Shipley – a couple of games in his debut season, nothing to get excited about but has been a star in the 2s. Grade C- Toumpas - WTF were we thinking? Grade E Atley – no games this year with injury and form hampering, trade target by norf, can’t hurt. Grade D Worpel – got his chance and grabbed it firmly, big influence on Lefties and Hawks form late season. Grade A Patmore – yet to play in seniors, some mixed form in 2s, on borrowed time. Grade D Ruck Cameron – finally got a game (or half of one), Swans got spanked by Suns, lost his spot, pity as has been killing the NEAFL. Grade C+ Smith - the forgotten man, wasted first round pick (for something different). Grade D Forward Simpkin – mixed season but has played every game, purple patch mid year had everyone screaming his name from the rooftops. Grade B Langford – finally repaid the faith with a breakout year, fingers crossed he retains dpp. Grade A Mathieson – struggled to find form and has gone backwards, can find the ball but goes missing too often, still viable with dpp. Grade C Daicos – healthy second year and held his spot up until last few games, dpp candidate. Grade B Hayward – a solid second year but has fallen away as he played further away from goal. Grade B Dawson – yippee! Finally gets a game, played very nicely too, looking forward to seeing him shine. Grade B Gowers – drafted mid year and hasn’t put a foot wrong, love ya work Billy. Grade B+ Begley – did his ACL early, unfortunately could be a victim of the hatchet. Grade D
Two years into what is now termed as “an open-ended rebuild”, the Lefties list management style is nothing short of maniacally erratic. “Stay with us folks!” is the new club promo slogan, as the marketing dept goes into damage control in an attempt to retain the faithful masses. Its hard to argue with Twitter raging to the tune of “I paid good drug money for this tripe” and “Reclaim the swamp, the Sooty Dunnart could play better than this waste of oxygen”. Admittedly there is madness to this madness, but a strict youth initiative will hopefully start to pay dividends. Since the 2018 MSD period, a raft of young talent has joined the club including: · James Worpel · Tom Cole · Billy Gowers · Colin O’Riordan · Stefan Giro · Oscar Allen · James Cousins · Blake Hardwick · Lochie O’Brien Added to this, a blistering off season trade period has netted us 3 picks inside the top 12 and a couple of second rounders as we dived deep into the pool. Welcome to the Goon: · Izak Rankine · Jackson Hately · Jordan Clark · Riley Collier-Dawkins · Kieran Briggs · Francis Watson · Jack Lonie · Tom Sparrow We have also fare-welled a considerable number of kids over the last six months or so (including most of our 2018 draftees), we thank them for their service and sincerely hope we haven’t tarnished their reputations irreparably.
