So, 2016 preseason, well it wasn't what we thought it would be. Ryder's exclusion for 2016 and his importance to the Misfits meant we could write off a drive up the ladder this year. Once that became evident we returned to previous years tactic of drafting young talent to trade out later when we see the window opening. We drafted Matt Kennedy with pick 12, a contested ball bull who will become elite Then with pick 34 we drafted James Rose, a young Swans fwd who on debut kicked 3 goals in his 20 minutes onfield Pick 50 was a speculative pick on Orazio Fantasia, a young Bombers defender who has shown promise and needs to deliver on it. Pick 55 was intended to be used on a young ruck, but Michael Hartley was compelling as another Bomber defender who will get plenty of time this year to prove his worth, good or bad We then traded at the midnight hour, Mav Weller a future leader at the Saints, but one fwd too many, for pick 66 to Birdsville in exchange for pick 66 and enabled drafting of the desired ruck option Pick 66 we chose a guy who will end up a premium ruck in the AFL, Matthew Flynn has been extremely impressive at Tom Willis oval in his short stay, and was given a ringing endorsement by the big Mummy, a pick to replace Ryder in 3 years time That left our list as: Backs Rory Laird, Marco Paparone, Zachary Williams, Jack Hombsch, Kristian Jaksch, Orazio Fantasia, Adam Tomlinson Back/Fwd, Daniel Rich Back/Mid, Michael Hartley Fwds Devon Smith, Jamie Elliott, Josh Bruce, Caleb Daniel, Jo Daniher, Will Hoskin-Elliot, Riley Knight,James Rose Mids Callan Ward, Lachie Whitfield, Luke Dunstan, Josh Kelly, Lachie Weller, Connor Blakely, Jake Barrett, Matthew Kennedy Ruck Matt Flynn, Andrew Phillips, Patrick Ryder We are intent on playing finals in 2017 and are expecting to see the trade values of our young group be significantly enhanced through 2016. We expect to trade out at least 1/2 our young Giants (those that don't change clubs) for more current prospects prior to the 2017 PSD, the plan is to not gradually rise to the top, but to ignite an aggressive series of trades that ensure we ride a tsunami surge to top 4 in 2017. The membership have almost universally endorsed this plan, those that didn't are expected to be rounded up and shot (after final payment of dues) within the upcoming weeks.
Callan Ward locks in a 5 YEAR extension with the giants. There is not enough man-love to embrace this man at the Misfits
While you are sending account details to KI Guy i'll be sending him my account details. Hold fire, why not donate the winnings to the deserving charity that is TS?
The Misfits started the year in predictable fashion, marginally better than not playing at all, lucky our supporters have to travel almost 1500 kms each way if they want to support another team.. B&F results for round 1; 5 Callan Ward - The concrete warrior just keeps on keeping on 4 Daylight - Doesn't have a number yet, but likely to poll well 3 Dan Rich - We have big hopes for the Thor look alike, this week illustrated why 2 Rory Laird - Solid start for our young prime backman 1 Caleb Daniel - We have epic man love for this guy, will get votes even when he plays shit, get on him 1 Josh Kelly - Another favourite son developing into a seriously good player
A marginally better performance in round 2, the squad lifting their total score by 104, but were lucky to hit the Nuffa's on a bad week for them. Fantasia and Hartley debuted with 91 and 86 respectively, though Fantasia's was from the bench. B&F points for round 2; 5 Rory Laird - 127 in a SA derby is never a bad game 4 Joe Daniher - No idea where he pulled 113 from, will await the proctologists report to confirm suspicions, but Noice! 3 Cal Ward - Captain bloody Fantastic 2 Devon Smith - Junior Stevie J, killed it 1 Caleb Daniel - Didn't see the game, no idea how he played, don't care 1 Josh Kelly - Developing ahead of Whitfield, not expected Tally 8 Ward 7 Laird 4 Daylight, Daniher 3 Rich 2 Smith, Daniel, Kelly
Destroyed by Foul Bay this week, rumour has it the Misfits are being referred to as the bye round.. B&F points for round 3; 5 Ward 4 Whitfield 3 Daniel 2 Dunstan 1 Daylight Tally 13 Ward 7 Laird 5 Daniel, Daylight 4 Daniher, Whitfield 3 Rich 2 Smith, Kelly, Dunstan
Misfits managed a semi respectable 1188 this week, not close to beating a rampaging Vultures outfit though... B&F points for round 4; 5 Ward 4 Rich 3 Whitfield 2 Hombsch 1 Fantasia 1 Daniel Tally 18 Ward 7 Laird, Rich, Whitfield 6 Daniel 5 Daylight 4 Daniher 2 Smith, Kelly, Dunstan, Hombsch 1 Fantasia
In a pathetic display by a 14.5 man squad the Misfits totaled 998, easily beaten by the Hoppers. Whitfield is currently washing the cars of the entire squad, Daniher is holding the bucket for him. B&F points for round 5; 5 Daylight - Technically supposed to be second but there was no winner 4 Fantasia - A punt that has so far paid back a lot more than expected 3 Ward - Down day for the Captain 2 Williams - Getting better every week, welcome back buddy 1 Laird - Stood out among a bag of spuds 1 Daniel - Didn't play, but gets a point for not being shit Tally 21 Ward 10 Daylight 8 Laird 7 Rich, Whitfield, Daniel 5 Fantasia 4 Daniher 2 Smith, Kelly, Dunstan, Hombsch, Williams
The Misfits responded varyingly to the size 11 planted in their collective arses during the week, with our backs, mids and solo ruck all lifting spectacularly, unfortunately our 2 only eligible forwards developed severe zacdawsonitis, and the two mids who filled in battled bravely but had their scored halved due to playing oop. Fortunately the Lefties stars mostly drank heavily from the spiked water we distributed pre-match and we got over the line. B&F points for round 6; 5 Whitfield - Breakout type of performance @ 135 4 Ward - Captain fantastic back to his best 3 Williams - Getting better every week, love this guy 2 Rich - Thor is back 1 Kelly - gets better every time he plays 1 Daniel - Didn't play, doesn't matter, gets a point for being awesome 0 Daylight - An occurrence we'd like to see become a trend Tally 25 Ward 12 Whitfield 10 Daylight 9 Rich 8 Laird, Daniel 5 Fantasia, Williams 4 Daniher 3 Kelly 2 Smith, Dunstan, Hombsch
