Mawson Base Penguins

What is generally known about Mawson Base is that it was named by Sir Douglas Mawson while aboard RRS Discovery.

What is not generally known is that an expedition was sent to the area as well and a rudimentary football oval was found there, along with human remains and suspiciously meaty potato soup.

The findings of the expedition were hushed up at the time in order to not alarm an already nervous British Empire.

Recent archaeological research has revealed that the oval and goalposts were in fact made by pirate convicts escaped from Sarah Island who played footy and ate each other in an attempt to keep warm.

When the scientific base was constructed the original oval was preserved by order of the National Trust. This original ground is now being fitted with seating to hold the winter population of Mawson base which is 20. The low population base is expected to be countered by a 100&#37; membership rate as there is sod all else to do in winter there.
