<p style='text-align: center;]Mid-Price Madness: Potential 2013 Breakout Players
<p style='text-align: center;]By TigersTooTough

Following on from last week's first piece in this series by Stkildathunda, I have put down a little bit on a few players that can potentially breakout this season. Mid-Pricers are always tough to judge, if you are going down that path, and some solid information is needed when trying to find a diamond in the rough. Instead of looking at proven players that are mid-priced due to injury (eg Bock), I have chosen a few players that you may not be thinking about putting in your team, but should at least be in some thoughts. There's a little bit of a Tiger flavour in this, but with a definite finals campaign coming up, it'd be silly to not expect plenty of SuperCoach points going to us :)

We are two months away from the real season but the NAB Cup is important to the serious fantasy coaches to keep an eye on player roles and what not. Exciting times are coming!!

Anyways, thanks to SKT for letting me put together a little something together and trying something out on the new site. Enjoy!!

Reece Conca(Rich)
$376 600
(2012 Avg. 70.3)
MID: The former No. 6 draft pick played 18 matches last season which is good for a young player. He came to the Tigers with plenty of wraps about him and he has definitely showen signs of what's to come. He mainly played across the defence but didn't do as much rebounding as expected. He averaged 19 possessions which is okay for a player of his experience.

His disposal was a bit of an issue last year. He ranked 15th in the AFL for clangers which isn't a list that you want to be too high on. A positive though is the fact he likes to kick more than handball which is rewarded in SuperCoach.

I expect Conca to be pushing into the midfield more this season and hopefully play as an outside running player alongside the likes of Deledio and Grigg. He isn't afraid to do a bit of grunt work either.

I expect his average to be in the 80-85 bracket but wouldn't be surprised if he has a major breakout season (like Kieran Jack last season). The only downside to this is the fact that he is only listed as a midfielder. Losing the DPP status will mean that he will be overlooked by most. He is a definite POD but risky at the same time.

Shane Edwards(Rich)
$431 500
(2012 Avg. 80.6)
FWD: Titch” is one of my favourites. He is in the heart of that awkward price which will turn people away. I'm not even sure if I will select him, but here is the case for selecting him. Last year he ranked 9th for Total Goal Assists and 11th for Goal Assists per game (both in the AFL) which are rated very highly. He is an unselfish player who is always looking for teammates in better positions. He also scored a very healthy 29 goals and averaged close to 18 disposals as well. His kicking has always been viewed as ordinary but he has clearly worked on it and has been quite damaging. Last year, he played a high half-forward role and played on the wings as well which allowed him to provide some outside run for the Tigers.

His natural development will mean he will improve more this year. He is another who will play more midfield than he has before but will still play his fair share of games in the forward line. I don't see him averaging 25+ possessions a game but I do see him as an impact player that will never be out of the game. Even with new recruits Knights, A.Edwards and Petterd, ‘Titch' will keep on improving his SC output. I see him being able to average above 90 this year and having a big impact on games; even with limited disposals.

Lynden Dunn (Melb)
$344 500
(2012 Avg. 64.4)
FWD/DEF: If I saw this guy's name written in a section of players to consider in SuperCoach, I would probably skip over the paragraph as well. But let's think for a bit. Dunn started the year playing off the bench (Sub at times) and playing different roles in the forward line. It translated into him scoring poorly. In fact, he has never really scored well. But when I was thinking of some possible Mid-Pricers, his name came into my mind immediately; and without having done any research. Why? No idea. Then checking his scoring patterns, it kind of clicked.

He moved into the backline in the second half of the year and to great effect. He rebounded and tagged showing his versatility. In the last 8 games of the year, he averaged 90. That's not too bad considering some of the rubbish he has produced previously. He became cleaner with his disposal and more effective with his overall game. He showed he didn't have to have much of the ball to get a decent score of 80+.

His DPP status makes him more relevant and appealing. Having finished the year well, I'd hope he is able to continue into the new season. And it's worth noting that his first game of the year will be his 100th. Some milestone magic? He is one to watch over the NAB cup but is an option.

Ben Jacobs (NM)
$309 200
(2012 Avg. 57.8)
DEF: A new club, a new player? There was obviously a lot of talk during Trade Period about him moving from Port or not. In the end, the ‘Roos got the player they wanted and Port, well, weren't happy. Jacobs has been injury prone over his first two seasons however, thanks to an article in the Herald Sun, it seems that he may be over them. I've been hearing that he has been tearing it apart in training which is good news.

He hasn't been a relevant SuperCoach player yet but how quickly things can change. There is talk that he may just slot into the Best 22 and find himself playing off Half-Back by Round 1. He could just as easily be named a sub for the first few rounds. Ironically, the best game (SC wise) came this year against North Melbourne with 97 points. If he can produce the odd score of 90+ mixed with 70's and mainly 80's, he can provide real value for money. And with not many locks in the backline, this may just be a risk worth taking.

Watch him through the NAB Cup and see how North are playing him. He is one that is on my shortlist.

Craig Bird (Syd)
$388 400
(2012 Avg. 72.6)
FWD/MID:

If there is one SuperCoach rule that you should abide by, it is don't pick taggers. And why would you? Historically, they don't score well (except Carazzo), they don't kick goals and they try and blanket the stars. Our captains are usually negatively impacted by them and they really have no use for us. But I find Bird to be a little different to the usual.

First, he doesn't mind being in front of goals. Over his career, he has 37 goals in 87 games which isn't too bad for his type of player. Tackles are rewarded nicely and he averages around 4 a game which is pretty good. It would help his scoring and there's been talk that he has been training hard and tackling hard which makes him more interesting.

He also has DPP status which makes him a more relevant player to us however he does have his knocks. His kicking lets him down and has led to some of his scores being lower than they would otherwise be. As a tagger, there is always the problem of giving away free kicks. It's a risk that must be taken into account when picking defensive players. These things will lower his scoring output however if he can keep it under control, he can average around 80.
