With one round to go Trent Cotchin is the inaugural winnner of the Mount Beauty Uglies Best and Fairest Award, I'm sure it will be the first of many honours for the young man.

The minor placings are still open with Waters, Rioli, Bennell and Sidebottom all a chance.

Hey Bama. Might make some inquiries about 1 or 2 at a later date - pending a full review of my list, of course!

The Uglies have completed there draft for the 2013 season, we would like to welcome the following players to the club and hope they have a fruitful and enjoyable career, we also hope they know how to ski!
Pick 8 - Jack Viney - Jack is a young hard and tough footballer who's father had an outstanding career showing the same attributes. We feel he will make an immediate impact in the midfield allowing others to be pushed to other parts of the ground.
Pick 16 - Troy Menzel - Troy is a player ofimmense talent and football smarts, he does have injury concerns but they will be long forgotten when he strings some games together. He's a mid/fwd who we are not expecting big things from this year but should poke his head up for a couple of games along the way.
Pick 34 - Thomas Lee - Tom is a mature age recruit who he his straps in a lower league before catching the eye of recruiting staff at the Uglies. He is a tall forward with great hands and goal sense and while his best years are in front of him we do expect some impact this year.
Pick 41 - Jed Anderson - Jed is a project player with talent to burn. He was touted as a first round draft pick only to be prelisted and traded before the draft. A midfielder with excellent skills andawarenesswith pace to burn we think Jed will fit in nicely this year and in the future.
Pick 52 - Steven May - Steven is a big kid, has had a couple of years in the system and at 190cm and 99kg has the physical presence to dominate games of football. Handy with def/fwd capabilities who can run through the middle he score a very impressive 151 against the Hawks in round 21 last year. He was close to being taken at pick 34 but we though he might slip to us here.
Overall the Uglies are very happy with the outcome of this draft and look forward to the year ahead.

Martin and Rioli will also fill key roles up forward. Leuenberger is the key ruckman, with support from the emerging Ayce Cordy. Beau Waters and a couple of (again) young Tigers in Batchelor and Ellis anchor the defence. <br style='color: #000000; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; background-color: #fcfcfc;[/img] <br style='color: #000000; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; background-color: #fcfcfc;[/img] <strong style='font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: #fcfcfc; color: #000000;]Potential X-Factors:MPP D/Fs can be gold, and the Uglies have two young ones in Jordan Roughead and Steven MAy - both potential X-factors. Jed Anderson comes in with high hopes, while Menzel could be anything - if he gets fit.<br style='color: #000000; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; background-color: #fcfcfc;[/img] <br style='color: #000000; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; background-color: #fcfcfc;[/img] <strong style='font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: #fcfcfc; color: #000000;]Question Marks:With youth can come inconsistency - will the Uglies overcome this? Can Dustin Martin return to form? Will Leuenberger stay fit? When will Troy Menzel get on the park? Who out of the Uglies and the Dirigibles will successfully hold onto the most Richmond players?<br style='color: #000000; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; background-color: #fcfcfc;[/img] <br style='color: #000000; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; background-color: #fcfcfc;[/img] <strong style='font-family: Helvetica, Arial, San-Serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: #fcfcfc; color: #000000;]Summary:I think initial odds offered about Mt Beauty for hte ORFFA flag are very generous - though I am not a betting man. This is a team that will be more than competitive in the present, but could become a future juggernaut with its emerging, talented youth led by a personal favourite in Trent Cotchin. Coach Bama's shrewd drafting saw a clutch of good young things arrive on the mountain ... don't be surprised if this team goes a long way.

Great round 1 win to The Uglies to kick off the 2013 season. All though we have gone down the youth path we have proved we will not be easy beats and expect to challenge hard for a finals berth.
The best and fairest voting for round one was very tight which is what you want to see from acommitted group of young players.
3 Votes: Hartlett (123) 2 Votes: Cotchin (119) 1 Vote: Dickson (118)
Unlucky not to poll were Viney and Waters both 1 point further back on 117 and Sidebottom again 1 point back on 116.
If this keeps up Cotchin might have to fight hard for the award again this year!

The Uglies would like to announce HeavyMen as there number 1 ticket holder for the 2013 season. Heavy has anaffinity with the local area and we are hoping his attendance at home games may keep the club afloat with large amounts of beer sold! [IMG]
Welcome aboard Heavymen!!

In addition to HeavyMen being bestowed thehonorof number 1 ticket holder he is also now the Scoreboard manager at the Trent Cotchin Stadium (named after our first club champion and captain). The locals are currently building an accommodation for Heavy so he he can get out of the cold on the those chilly days on the mountain. The scoreboard is electric [IMG] So it can be operated from the the accommodation below (image forillustration purposes only, works are still in progress) [IMG]

The players were feeling a little unhappy last season and self esteem was low, after talking to the leadership group it was relised that the players were not overly happy being at a club called the Uglies.
With this being the clubs name since inception it was not going to change anytime soon, so the board has taken steps to appease the players in other ways.
There are now twice as many mirrors in the change rooms and the clubs new theme some is I'M SEXY AND I KNOW IT!

Now for the bad news. Injuries have hit hard this week with the back line and forward lines looking to struggle this week. With Waters going down for 3 weeks hopefully Batchelor can come straight back in from his late withdrawal and Ellis can avoid the vest. We still have Buntine on the sidelines with injury and Guthrie and Griffiths unable to get a game In the forward line we now have an 8 week injury to Dickson while Nahas, Crozier and Menzel can not get game time at the moment, luckily Tom Lee broke through for his first game last week and should continue to play. All going well we may be able to select a full team. fingers crossed!
