lezyeoh, that is some beautiful work. The only thing that I neglected in my initial list was that Frees Against are also counted as clangers and are independent of disposals. Perhaps a more accurate representation of diposal points lost would be using something like disposal clangers for the calculation, wher disposal clangers = total clangers - frees against(I'm pretty sure frees against are also included in the clanger count).

Actually disregard that last post of mine as it wouldn't change the 2011 amended scores you have posted in that spreadsheet, the one thing however that needs to be taken into consideration is that scores are normalised thus I'd imagine the points lost wouldn't be as amplified for the higher scorers.

Hell that it some serious number crunching. Just looking through a few premiums, Mitchell, Thompson, Franklin could all go down 12%; relative to McEvoy, Lids, Cox, Pendles, Scotland down by only 5%.

I mean the 3300 rule still kicks in and all that, it's just that the 12% boys down the bottom end of this list need a good hard look before you go picking 'em. On the 50/50 selection calls that we all face, I reckon this data will be a useful decider for me.

Bugger now I have to start all over again THANK GUYS just what I needed.

All jokes aside TS has opened my eyes to the way you go about picking a team.

I look forward to the bragging rights TS will bring me at seasons end, as I have had to put up with it from my mate all summer long.

Forget that. Just crunched more numbers including the frees against.
And buddy goes down 17%. Average 93. Once again, not normalised....
    But a big difference.
Reckon buddy's midfield move will gain him another 17 points?
Or could more possessions mean more clangers and more free's against?
Or could it mean less free's against?

The 3300 rule will definitely lessen the affect but at the end of the day 3300 points are still handed out!
Overall it shouldn't change ppls thinking. SuperCoach has always rewarded those players who have the greater impact on the game. Clanger kings should never have been on ppls radar in the first place.

In comparative terms the normalisation may see the better ball users score higher than 2011 due to the inefficiency around them. I.E Franklin's 2011 score may be slightly lower Pendlebury's slightly higher.

The 3300 rule won't lessen the effect relative to other players.
When normalized, an efficient player like Pendles would rise from 129 to 137.
Clanger king Buddy would drop from 110 to 103.
At the premium player end, the extremes can differ by 15ppg.
    I think that's significant.
    Great stuff, lezyeoh!

Note: That's using the data which hasn't yet included frees against!

Get off Pendles please, Impromptu isn't starting him. That should be reason enough for everyone to leave him alone.

Sorry Lucas, but I did mention the extremes.
Obviously most players sit well inside the efficiency extremes and average much less per game.
For them the coupla points diff per game (either way) will be negated by other factors.

I've taken lezyeoh's figures and updated them to include the effect for frees against. So the new average shows the negative effects of both changes. Now since normalisation will occur, I've adjusted those new averages so the number of total points remains the same as before, so only the distribution is affected. This should show a reasonable estimate of the predicted actual effect.

    Great work everyone!

The Swert, have you got that data in a spreadsheet? If so, any chance of sorting it by projected points and posting again?

Indeed. I wasn't sure which way would be more useful. And for clarification, i only looked at players who averaged over 90 last year and used their total for the normalisation.

    The big winners are:
    Ben McEvoy … +7%
    Brett Deledio … +5%
    Scott Pendlebury … +5%
    Heath Scotland … +5%
    Cyril Rioli … +5%

    The big losers are:
    James Kelly … -8%
    Lance Franklin … -7%
    Scott Thompson … -6%
    Sam Mitchell … -5%

Effects of new rules on last year's averages - by new average:

Name … 2011 Average … Lost Points … New Average … Normalised New Average

    Scott Pendlebury … 129.23 … 7.07 … 122.16 … 135.90

    This data is GOLD !!!

Thanks Lezyeoh and the Swert, this will lead to a major re-vamp of my team.

Confirms Pendlebury and Ablett IN, A. Swallow and possibly the big BUD OUT !?!

Love watching the guy play, but he does tend to spray it and give too many frees away.

Disposal efficiency is King, certainly this year more than others, and for me this clearly rules out players like Thompson, Boyd, Corey, Robinson. Also makes Murphy a clear choice over Judd.
