    Week 1 TS NFL Australia

A short review of the week 1 match-ups.

Yo Yo Marshawn defeated King of Karlos (111 v 96)

<p style='text-align: justify;]Yo Yo Marshawn - Despite the insipid performance by the teams legendary QB (Manning - 175 yards, 1 INT, 0 TDs!), strong performances at RB and TE led Yo Yo Marshawn to a solid first-up win. Forte (141 yards, 1 TD) found plenty of room in the Bears loss to the Packers, and Lynch (100+ all-purpose yards), whilst TD-less, was his usual Beastness against a loaded Rams D. Eifert was the surprising star though, 100+ yards and 2 TDs was huge day for the Bengals TE. The Fin's D was strong against Washington, whilst Jeffery (78 yards) and Matthews (102 yards) were solid, if not so spectacular, contributors, though Matthews drop late will not be looked upon too favourably in Philly I don't imagine. QB issues are probably their main worry at this early stage of the season.
    <p style='text-align: justify;]
<p style='text-align: justify;]King of Karlos - Brees was Brees against Arizona, 355 yards and a TD, but he lacked support, with only Lacy (99 all purpose yards and 1 TD) and exciting Miami WR Landry (53 yards and a return TD) really performing. Getting little out of Olsen (targeted 3 times for 11 yards only) would have been surprising and disappointing, and of course, Bell was sorely missed and KoK will do well to even split whilst Bell remains suspended. Walker (43 yards, 1 TD) was an interesting, but good, selection in the flex spot, whilst youngsters Cooks (49 yards) and Coleman (80 yards) showed enough to suggest they could be strong scores throughout the season. Plenty of improvement in KoK, but in a short season, early losses can be critical.

Rigil Kentaurus defeated Canuck Warriors (98 v 97)

<p style='text-align: justify;]Rigil Kentaurus - Rigil win the game of the round on the back of a HoF-esque performance by Philly Rivers, his 400+ yards and 2 TDs only blighted by a couple of INTs. Murray scored well despite poor numbers, with 2 TD's boosting his score significantly, whilst Old Man Whitten (60 yards, 2 TD's) got the job done for Romo and the Cowboys. RB 2 looks a problem, with McFadden doing little, and is likely replaced once Spiller returns. Also of note, Adams may not be WR2 at Green Bay with James Jones being favoured by A-Rod against the Bears. The Bills D were terrific and will score much more heavily against more meager opposition in the future. Positive first round outing for Rigil.
    <p style='text-align: justify;]
<p style='text-align: justify;]Canuck Warriors - Canuck will be ruing the one that got away here, as they played quite well but fell just short. The good news is, Allen (166 yards!) looks to have blown away his 2nd year funk going enormous against the Lions (no thanks to Phil Rivers!), whilst Ingram (98 receiving yards), Cook (85 yards against Seattle), and Bradford (336 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs) were all very good. Bridgewater (231 yards and 1 INT) was perhaps underwhelming, whilst bigger things were expected from Maclin (52 yards). A lack of TDs lie at the heart of this loss, with only Jennings in the flex spot getting into the endzone, and whilst Canuck look solid at WR, they remain a work in progress at RB and QB, and will need their QB's to be better than they were this week to contend.

    Brady's Bunch defeated by Billy Bass (79 v 114)

<p style='text-align: justify;]Brady's Bunch - Great performances by Big Ben (351 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), Cutler (it hurts to write that btw) (225 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) and Ivory (100 all purpose yards and 2 TDs) were overshadowed by mostly mediocre performances by the rest of what appears to be a limited squad. Edelman (100+ all purpose yards) was solid in the Patriots win over the Steelers, but Sims, Colston, Daniels and Garcon underwhelmed (12 points total), and the Cardinals D/ST were good, but unspectacular and more will be needed from them as the season progresses.
    <p style='text-align: justify;]
<p style='text-align: justify;]Billy Bass - An ominous performance by Billy Bass in this one and they have staked their claim as an early Superbowl favourite. Rodgers (189 yards, 3 TDs) was superb, as per usual, whilst Palmer was even better, with 300+ yards and 3 TDs! Hopkins (98 yards, 2 TDs) showed he was ready to step up and be the No.1 WR in Houston, and Green (63 yards and poor dropped pass in the endzone) Cameron (73 yards) and Hilton (88 yards) all were targeted enough to suggest they are going to be strong scores this season. Of note was the Billy Bass bench, with Dalton, Harvin, Woodhead and Johnson hitting double figures in fantasy scores. Consistency and depth at RB are perhaps the only concerns for Billy Bass at this stage of the year.

    Jimbos Juggernaut defeated The Jug-O-Naughts (109 v 82)

<p style='text-align: justify;]Jimbos Juggernaut - The Juggernauts are a loaded squad and overwhelmed the O'Naughts in a strong week 1 performance. Despite a couple of interceptions each, Romo (356 yards, 3 TDs) and Luck (243 yards, 2 TDs) were very good fantasy-wise (and actual game wise for Romo who once again was clutch down the stretch), whilst Charles (100+ all purpose yards, 1 TD) and Brown (133 yards, 1 TD) put up numbers you'd expect from the top RBs and WRs in today's game. McCoy (87 yards) looked good in his debut for the Bills and his score was limited only by missing out on a TD. In frightening news for other team owners, new signings Cooper (47 yards but hampered by poor QB play) and Abdullah (94 all purpose yards, 1 TD) demonstrated their pre-season hype was not unfounded, and Big Ben targeted Miller 11 times for 84 yards in their loss to the Patriots. With exciting WRs Johnson, Dorsett and Bryant sitting on the pine, this squad is the envy of all others and it will be surprising if the Juggernauts don't take all before them this season.
    <p style='text-align: justify;]
<p style='text-align: justify;]The Jug-O-Naughts - As expected, Brady stamped his authority on the league in TNF throwing 3 TDs and 288 yards to lead the O'Naughts, but other than an average Matty Ryan (298 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT) performance and a good performance in the flex spot by Randle (100+ all purpose yards), the O'Naughts were no match for the Juggernauts. All Day's (31 rushing yards) return was emphatically underwhelming and for some reason rushed only 10 times, whilst the new Indy signings Gore (31 rushing yards) and Johnson (24 yards) were blanketed by a strong Bills D. Wallace and Rudolph were targeted 7 times each but neither could find the scoreboard, and the Texans D/ST were unable to put the stops on the Chiefs. The O'Naughts season are going to be heavily linked to the performances of the Colts and Vikings, and despite favourable pre-season predictions, neither were great in week 1 and will need to improve if the O'Naughts are to contend.

Let's Go Buccos defeated by Team Simonoz (97 v 104)

<p style='text-align: justify;]Let's Go Buccos - The Bucco's were rather unlucky to lose this one, with perhaps injuries to Carr and Ellington the turning point in this contest. Wilson (251 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT) was his dynamic self, and his combination with Graham (51 yards, 1 TD) will be a area of strength for the Bucco's this season. Julio Jones (141 yards, 2 TDs) was unstoppable in MNF. Ellington (69 yards, 1 TD) was good until the injury, and Marshall was strong in his first outing for the Jets. Bernard (88 all purpose yards) and Sanders (65 yards) are going to be interesting to watch this season with Hill looking to be the bell-cow at Cincy and Sanders scoring dependent on the ageing arm of Manning. With Sankey (74 yards, 2 TDs) breaking out in a big way in the Titans win over the Bucs, Bernard will likely be relegated to the bench this week. Manziel was ok for Cleveland and will likely be QB2 for the Bucco's this week, but I am guess there are going to be some sleepless nights ahead for the Bucco's manager worrying about this position, and may need to be addressed through trading.
    <p style='text-align: justify;]
<p style='text-align: justify;]Team Simonoz - Led by Chiefs QB Smith (243 yards, 3 TDs), Team Simonoz were solid throughout week 1 and deserved the W. Kaepernick (165 yards throwing, 41 yards rushing) looked better than he did last year, whilst Hill (63 yards, 2 TDs) and Kelce (106 yards, 2 TDs) confirmed their pre-season hype with great week 1 performances. Yeldon (67 all purpose yards) looked good in his first outing for the Jags to suggest he will be a key player going forward, but the story of the weekend for Team Simonoz is the loss of their spiritual leader Bryant for 6 weeks with a foot injury. Big Dez (48 yards from 7 targets) looked good until the injury and his loss is a major blow for this squad, and they will need Evans to quickly return and OBJ to step up again. The Jets D/ST looked very good in their first game without Rex in charge, though that performance was offset by the poor kicking effort by Vinatieri (2 misses!).

    Team Stowie defeated Waito's Warriors (122 v 107)

<p style='text-align: justify;]Team Stowie - Rounding out Week 1 was the top scorer in Team Stowie who rode new boy Mariota (209 yards, 4 TDs) to a big win over the very competitive Warriors. The new signing was immense, albeit against a very average Bucs D, and could've scored even more if not for being rested for the entirety of the 4th quarter! He was ably supported by Newton (175 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), a typically outstanding Gronk (94 yards, 3 TDs) performance, the Panthers D/ST who dominated the Jags offence, and Bryant kicking Atlanta to a win over Philly. However, Team Simonoz might be a little concerned with the output of the teams RBs (Miller [75 all purpose yards], Anderson [48 all purpose yards]) and WRs (Cobb [38 yards], Jackson [0 yards], Smith Snr [13 yards]), and will need to replace Jackson after he injured his hamstring in Washington's loss to Miami. With good depth at RB on the bench, Team Stowie maybe looking to pick up a WR on the trade market to consolidate their position as a scoring leader.
    <p style='text-align: justify;]
<p style='text-align: justify;]Waito's Warriors - The stat line at the top of the scoring card is hard to overlook when analyzing this loss. Flacco (117 yards, 2 INTs) was overwhelmed by the Bronco's D and 0 from your QB 1 will almost always result in a loss. But, the Warriors showed great spirit to bounce back and make this a competitive game, with Hyde (168 yards, 2 TDs) having a massive day in his debut as the No.1 RB for the 49ers, Freddy Morris (121 yards) returning to form, Bennett (55 yards, 1 TD) good against the Pack, and the Seahawks D/ST (2 TDs) mighty despite losing to the Rams. Megatron (39 yards) will probably be in the naughty corner with Flacco after he too performed well below average, and whilst Winston (210 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs) might escape attention after putting together some junk time drives to boost his numbers, he was completely overplayed by Mariota in the match-up of the new QB's. Gordon (67 all purpose yards) was ok in his first outing, and Thomas (60 yards), like the other Denver WRs, will be dependent on Manning this year, and based on current evidence, it could be a less than stellar year for the Bronco offence.

Nice work Johnson, enjoyed the read. Feeling pretty luck with Mariota, Gronk and the Panthers going nuts and covering for some low scores.

A lot of TE's scored really well in Week 1, I wonder if this will continue throughout the season as I've always felt that I get a fairly big advantage each week with Gronk... but others could be catching up!

Great write up - love it Johnson......

I was very lucky to fall over the line this past week, and now I've lost Dez for 4-8 weeks which really just sux big time. Oh well, wont be the first big injury.

Great to see 4 of the match ups going down to the wire to the very end. We could have a very even comp this year.

PS......Stowie: My boy Kelce is coming after the Gronk's crown.

When was the last Sunday that Jacksonville, Cleveland, Oakland and Tampa all had wins?

It was bizzaro world this morning Stowie! Whats worse, I benched both Robinson and Bortles thinking Suh and crew would make him suffer all day, I couldn't have been more wrong. Carr was very good against the Ravens, Manziel threw a few nice balls but was still pretty average, and Winston bounced back after last weeks demoralising debut.
