No need to contemplate the loss of Mitch Grigg Chris, if he were still available he was crossing the Tasman at pick 17. The surpise to me was that a Port man would opt for a Crow. Yes Chels, I didn't have high hopes the gent in question would last till pick 20-something, to be honest. I've got about 6 back-up plans but I'm not sure which one might yet come into play - it is a liberating feeling now knowing that I have no clue who I am actually going to get with my first pick in the draft!! But what I am impressed with is the attitude of - 'well, here's the unfashionable pick but it is a player I want, so bugger it, I'll use pick 6.' I like that. Chris, my selection of Boyd at seven was about as straighforward as it gets unlike Terry's choice of Mitch Grigg at six. There were plenty of high quality young mids available and whilst most if not all coaches would have expectedMitch Grigg to go in the top 20 or sopicks I don't know ifanyone besides Terry had M Grigg in the top six so that would have been a far more difficult decision to make.A year ago Brodie Grundy went at five, higher than most of us expected and that selection paidoff. It is great to see people follow their instinct and this selectionmight end up like the Grundy one. In Round 1 it could be a case of Grigg vs Grigg with Whitsunday's Mitch against Cradle Mountain's Shaun. Having a half dozen games from 2013 plus a pre season as a guide is probably enough to make a guy Top 15 I reckon. Of course, if he goes well then using Pick 6 doesn't matter at all because you've still got your guy. In the end, its about getting who you want. And getting Grigg at 6 and Boyd at 7 are two very nice picks.

An interesting view Dean. One of the upshots of Grundy going early was Brad Crouch was available at pick 6. The Waikicks were more than happy to pick a young guy who averaged 87 in his first 14 games and might well turn out to be one of the better players from that draft. I appreciate Grundy was, and still is, the best ruck available but there is an opportunity cost involved in every pick. Who know how we will view a pick in five or 10 years time?

It's before 5am here, but I happen to be up momentarily... Pick 9... Gariwerd select Mathew Scharenberg. I was in such two minds about whether to grab him now or not. I've got about 4 players I'd be willing to pick at 9, and I suspect Scharenberg would slip to my next pick, but he's my most preferable, so I thought I should just grab him now.

If only. Still, rather than sitting on hands waiting, pop into the RMT blog and hand around some free advice.

I hope they get to 16 in the next 3 hours or so, or else it may end up being an 18 hour wait until I get back on

I've pinged him (and Fitzy jic). I'd imagine he would be in class.. At this early stage it's hard for some people to supply a list to an alternate, the variability of availability makes it tough, but where you do have that option, doing so is always nice.

Bandito, suggest when your 3 hours is up and if you have to go, you might PM a list of preferences to Len (if you are comfortable with that).

I would TiB, except there are so many variables (ie: number of players of a specific position that have been taken, depth charts of the other teams to see who they might take before my next pick etc) that it is very hard to discern who i would take this early on
