Oi Yeah all you wannabee insomniacs! If you could kindly divert your gaze away from the idiot box for a couple of hours as there is another highly significant sporting event going on this weekend in the merry old land of OZ. ORFFA Prelim finals are upon us and you wont want to miss a moment in this showcase of mesmerising athleticism. Larrikin Lagoon Lefties vs Birdsville Battlers Well what more could you ask for. A grand final rematch, giving the Battlers an opportunity to settle the score and Bradbury their way to a date at the Big Dance. Lets face it, the Battlers have flown so far under the radar that one might suspect that have relocated further west and taken up training in the underground U-Park at Pine Gap. On the flip-side, the Lefties have stumbled into this prelim with all the confidence of a Richmond Recruiting Dept, sans the oppressive dread of 4 years of failure. Suspecting this one will be closer than many expect. Mount Beauty Uglies vs Venus Bay Vultures Red hot flag favourites, the Uglies were brought back to earth last week but still managed to eke out a win thanks to a lone hand by The Beard. In a fairy tale draw, the Vultures drew the longest straw and had light training run against Luke Shuey and half a dozen Auskick kids. All signs point to the Uglies bouncing back this week and giving the corpse-peckers a touch up, but i'm tipping a couple of Greene/Docherty cameos to take this one down to the wire. And in other news... The Zac Dawson (soon to be renamed Travis Cloke) Cup of irrelevant faeces is being spat upon in some back alley, largely concealed by a pile of Ryan Lochte's vomit. If found, one of the following four names may appear scribbled in crayon on its filthy base in a fortnight: Cradle Mountain Devils vs Marble Bar Misfits Charlies Opening Spelunkers vs Whitsunday Warriors
Mount Beauty DEF Maynard, Boyd, Krakour, KK EMG Ruggles \ MID Cotchin, Sidebottom, Ellis, Viney EMG Weideman RUCK Gawn FWD Cyril, Roo, Martin, Petracca EMG Rioli INT Short, Leuenberger EMG Laverde
Lefties Still no BJ In - Schofield, Schulz, Toumpas Out - Hill, Fisher, Phillips Def - Gibbo, Haynes, Bugg, Duryea (Schofield) Mid - Priddis, Lewis, Mitchell, Lloyd (Smith) Ruck - Goldy Fwd - Wells, Joey, Lynch, McCarthy (Schulz) I/C - Langford, Selwood (Toumpas) Good luck for a fair dust up @JC
A Brayden Fiorini debut is on the cards for the Vultures... he's giving us something to think about in the NEAFL the past few weeks, including 40 touches and 2 goals last weekend. Will be a tough game, really can't afford to have underperformers
Barring any surprises in final teams this arvo, the Battlers will likely go in with the same 15 as last week - just with a couple of extra emergencies this week (and it will definitely be an emergency if I'm relying on a couple of their scores!). D: Houli, T Mac, Enright, Cutler (E: Sheridan) M: Treloar, Ebert, Hunter, Blakely, (E: Jetta) R: McEvoy F: Weller, Mayne, Lloyd, Taylor (E: Clarke) IC: Atkins, Dea (E: Dawson) And as disappointing as I'm sure the bit below is, @That KI Guy , I'm really not sure what it has do with our match up this weekend.
Haven't checked the Lefties but at 6 played for an average of just over 60, I'm guessing the Battlers season will be done and dusted real soon.
I've got Venus Bay at 844 with Docherty, Kreuzer, Hogan, Watts and Stef Martin to come, Mt.Beauty at 758 with Petracca, Gawn, Viney, Matt Boyd and Leuenberger yet to play.... I've got a solid lead but some good players to come for Mt.Beauty, Gawn could go mammoth as well as Viney, Matt Boyd vs Essendon could be anything also.... you just never know. Thats if my math is correct, and I wouldn't trust it often...
By my count (which has been well proven to be shite) I have: Lefties 1166/12 vs Battlers 661/9 Still some form players to come for the Birdsville mob but will be an uphill slog from here.
Yeah I don't think "uphill slog" quite captures it . Lol One Birdsville local has already suggested we change our name to the Birdsville Boomers next year.
Well played @JC Defence held up well, but let down by Big Boy. All up the results in the finals series thus far, remind me of how much luck is involved in this caper. I scrape through in week one and win comfortably the next with wildly differing totals. Meanwhile the two best scoring teams get bundled out. All this unfolds in the shadow of the Zac Dawson cup where the big boys seem to be playing. Great signs to see TiB, Bandit, Len and Snoz all pumping out killer scores. Grats to @Fitzy See ya at the big dance!
