Vlastuin is a great get but I'm glad he is gone in a way, I would of been compelled to take him if he was still available at 16 but now I can broaden my options. I was definitely considering him at 12.

Thanks Lenny, you've just made my pick a bit easier. Still 4 of the top 6 draft picks available ....

how long will it be before all the top 6 from the 2012 draft are gone? Or the top 10.
BTW, it's terrific that nobody is depriving TiB of port players!

I was glad that Vlastuin was still available at pick 10as the position the Devils are weakest in is defenders. Having said that if Vlastuin hadn't been available I would have selected one of the many midfielders on offer.

    PRESS RELEASE
    Darraweit Guim in draft shock

Darraweit Guim management have been forced into damage control after controversially selecting Michael Walters with the team's first pick - pick 13 - in the ORFFA draft.

Despite a number of highly credentialled rookies remaining available at the time of the pick, the Dirigibles' draft team took the completely unexpected step of drafting the 21 year old speedster from WA.

'We needed forwards', Dirigibles' coach Chris88 said. 'And Michael Walters was, to our estimation, in the best 4-5 forwards in the draft.'

'He has been playing at a high level since mid-2012, and has had a great pre-season, as well as standing out in a couple of trial games. To be honest, when we realised about a week ago that he was still undrafted, we were shocked.'

However the Guim's supporters have questioned the decision, wondering why big name talent like Stringer, Macrae, Plowman and O'Rourke were overlooked.

'I'm not convinced team management know what they are doing,' one supporter said, making the 'drinky drinky' motion before twirling his finger in a circle near his ear and repeatedly saying 'cuckoo, cuckoo'.

'If the coach hadn't traded away the team's second round draft pick, Walters could've been picked up then.'

Darraweit Guim traded both its second and third round draft picks during trade period, gaining in return youngsters Dom Tyson, Adam Tomlinson, Jesse Stringer and pick 45.

This is a decision coach Chris88 defended: 'We've injected youth into our midfield and forward line with these moves - gaining Tyson, Stringer, Tomlinson, Brad Hill and now Walters. And have still held onto a pick in the mid 40s. That's good going in this competitive ORFFA league.'

Club stalwarts will be keeping a close eye on the team's later picks, and have promised the burning of effigies if mistakes are made.

Damn...the two that I wanted that were never going to get through to me. But I got my hopes up when they both (in particularly Walters) made it through the top 10 with a number of top picks in tact.
    Well played Jolcon and Chris!

Yeah CR, I was happy to get Lonergan. Reckon he'll be pretty good. I was bloody tempted to take a FWD and would have if Mayes was available. Not convinced on the risk/reward for Stringer as yet but strongly conisdered Walters and nearly took him. So you very nearly dipped out on him Chris! :D

So you very nearly dipped out on him Chris! :D I've been watching Walters for about 7 bloody months to be honest, but only realised he hadn't been drafted about 10 days ago when I went through the team lists scouring for forwards after trading Howe and Rohan and didn't see his name. I looked back at his last 7-8 games last year and they were stunning. Then things were almost blown because he was mentioned in about 3 news articles in a week and played two very good games in the NAB Cup. I was hoping he'd last till pick 45 before that, but no, no way known. So I took him really early. That said Jolcon, if you had've grabbed Walters I probably would've nabbed Lonergan to be honest! Good tough Tassie boy who is built like a brick shithouse. Looking forward to seeing him play. Reckon he's a great pick Jolcon.

I think the natives are restless at the moment - been a long dry summer, the fields are parched, dams dry and they're keen to see some footy from the blimps. Luckily today is a might cooler here in Melbourne - if the pick was taken in the near 40 degree heat y'day all hell would've broken lose. That said, I'm still feeling the cold steel of pitchfork prongs against the nape of my neck if I don't nail pick 45. That could be an interesting exercise.

Faaaaaaaaaaar Out! Never expected this much young talent to still be up for grabs at this stage!
I, like Chris and many others, had sights set on Walters (was seriously considering taking him at 14, nice pick Chris)
Yeah yeah, stop blabbering and spill it....
