    Round 10 Date Friday 24.05.2019 – AFL Round 10
    THEME: Fantasy Saviour Round
We all know the feeling. That feeling when some normally non-descript performer steps up with a Messiah-esque performance to propel your underperforming bunch of triers to something resembling brilliance. Of course - most of the time - this is something that happens for other teams, and usually occurs when you are playing those other teams. So let’s celebrate Fantasy Saviour Round with the hope that we all get a God-like performance from one of our chosen 15 this weekend.

Disclaimer: Hope for God-like performance only valid if your bunch of triers isn’t playing my bunch of triers.

Whitsunday Warriors V Nowhere Else Wanderers
Marble Bar Misfits V Nareewillock Nuffers
Wagga Wagga Wombats V Birdsville Battlers
Iron Knob Codpieces V Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles
Lovely Banks Lilacs V Mount Beauty Uglies
Cradle Mountain Devils V Charlies Opening Spelunkers
Foul Bay Chickens V Wineglass Bay Packers
Gundagai Grasshoppers V Venus Bay Vultures
Gariwerd Cockatoos V Larrikin Lagoon Lefties

Seeing fewer teams posted lately, lift your game peeps, it's an interative league :)

Spelunkers team to take on our neighbours, and friends, the Cradle Mountain Devils

There has always been a passionate rivalry between the two sides, however it's a bit like Australia and New Zealand in the cricket, when we aren't playing them, we want the other side to win.

A couple more rounds until the MSD... and a few kids playing for their spot on the list... if they can ever actually get a game lol

Def: Bayley Fritsch (OOP), Liam Duggan, Aaron Francis, Griffin Logue (Tarryn Thomas (OOP))
Mid: Marcus Bontempelli, Zac Merrett, Jack Bowes, Rory Atkins (Andrew Brayshaw)
    Ruck: John Ceglar
Fwd: Sam Petrevski-Seton, Jack Higgins, Mitch McGovern, Nick Blakey
    Int: Sydney Stack, Oliver Florent

Cradle Mountain Devils Round 10 team

Out: A Naughton (omitted), Z Jones (hamstring), T Lynch (hamstring)
    In: T English, D Thomas, T Membrey

    Defenders - D Rich, N Vlastuin, M Hurley, D Thomas (A Naughton)
    Midfielders - S Pendlebury, D Zorko, J Hopper, J Steele (J Redden)
    Rucks – T English (H Himmelberg)
    Forwards – R Marshall, L Breust, J Gresham, T Membrey (B Daniels)
    Int: D Zaharakis, D Heppell

Cradle Mountain have made three changes for their Round 10 home game against fellow Tasmanian team Charlies Opening, with defender Zak Jones and forward Tom Lynch both sidelined due to hamstring injuries and Aaron Naughton who played as an OOP ruck in Round 9 omitted due to the availability of a specialist ruck. Two Devils play their first ORFFA game of the season – forward Tim Membrey who had been a fixture of the side in 2018 and 21 year-old ruckman Tim English who has only played a handful of ORFFA games in his career. Veteran Dale Thomas replaces Jones in the backline. Membrey has maintained his form from 2018 but has been squeezed out of the side this season due to increased competition for spots in the forward line after the off-season recruitment of Rowan Marshall and Luke Breust.

During 2012 and 2013 Charlies Opening had ORFFA bragging rights over the Devils, having 23 wins across this two season period and finishing in the top five on the ladder in each season whilst the Devils were a middle of the table side. The rivalry between the two clubs was at its most intense from 2014 to 2016 with the club’s finishing one position apart on the ladder in all three seasons with Cradle Mountain getting the edge over Charlies Opening in 2014 (6th to 7th) and 2016 (11th to 12th) whilst the Spelunkers had the upper hand in 2015 (10th to 11th separated only by points difference).Whilst it has always been a friendly rivalry the intensity has subsided a little in the last couple of years due to the clubs heading in different directions with Charlies Opening rebuilding and Cradle Mountain recruiting a few proven experienced players to enhance their chances of challenging for the premiership. The Devils made back to back finals campaigns in 2017 and 2018, finishing fifth and seventh in each season respectively whilst the Spelunkers finished 12th in 2017 and 14th in 2018.

The Devils enter the Round 10, 2019 encounter against Charlies Opening third on the ORFFA ladder on a club record seven game winning streak, surpassing their previous record of five victories in the first five rounds of 2017 whilst Charlies Opening are 16th with one win. CMD have won their last three games against COS, with Charlies Opening last tasting victory in an all Apple Isle clash between the two clubs in 2015 with an infamous 27 point victory in Round 3 despite playing 14 against 15 due to Marcus Bontempelli who had polled eight Les W Medal votes in the first two rounds being a late withdrawal. Although the Devils gaining the early ascendancy in the home game and had an extra player Charlies Opening showed more heart and had a stronger work-rate to finish full of running to gain a tenacious thrilling victory.

Charlies Opening will again be undermanned in this weekend’s game due to having two OOP defenders whilst Cradle Mountain have a full 15 man team the vast majority of their best 15 available. Without question Charlies Opening’s greatest strength is their powerful one-two punch in the midfield with Marcus Bontempelli and Zach Merrett being the top two ranked mids at this provisional stage for the Victorian/Tasmanian team’s upcoming State of Origin game against the others. Bontempelli and Merret are averaging 116 and 113 points respectively whilst Devils captain Scott Pendlebury is the eighth ranked mid for his state with an average of 101. Pendles has been in a similar position previously and increased his output late to gain a SOO berth and is attempting to do likewise in 2019. Pendles and his sidekick Dayne Zorko will be going head to head with their Charlies Opening counterparts, Bontempelli and Merret respectively with ball-hunting rather than defensive accountability being the order of the day. In the off-season Charlies Opening coach @Bandit was buoyant about the prospect of one of his new recruits Sydney Stack, the Devils have noticed his impressive form and physical presence and the clubs players want to avoid being on the receiving end of a bone-crunching Sydney Stack ‘get stuffed’ sidebump.
