Economists love The Law of Unintended Consequences. Early in the season, one strange consequence of increasing list size to try to negate the impact of covid is that collectively we seem to be making some poor decisions about who to put on the field. @anthak is a case in point, @Jen probably won't rue the choices she had to make as a result of having so many fit players. The cows will, at best, have 15 fit players if Dan Howe somehow gets on the field. Moral of the story: no choices, no mistakes. After Saturday evening (by my reckoning) Lilacs 10/817; cows 9/823
Unofficial final scores Charlies Opening Spelunkers 1022 lost to Cradle Mountain Devils 1356 @Bandit ‘s Charlies Opening were two good men short which reduced them to 13 players instead of the fully allotted 15 players for their home game against Cradle Mountain. The Spelunkers donut twin pack had a very sour taste as two players added to the injury list during the week both averaged at least 115 last season in Sean Darcy (118) and Zach Merret (115). Short wasn’t a completely negative term for the Spelunkers as their best player against the Devils was defender Jayden Short (110). Midfielder Marcus Bontempelli (108) was the only other Spelunker to reach triple figures and he did receive support in the form of four 90’s – Nick Blakey (96), Andrew Brayshaw (96), Nick Daicos (93) and Lloyd Meek (92). Seven COS players scored between 45 and 80 which brought the average for the 13 Spelunkers that did take the field down to 78.6 points each. Given their injury list the Round 4 Charlies Opening road trip to play @That KI Guy ’s Lefties shapes as a danger game. Cradle Mountain have improved each week during the season and scored 1356 against the Spelunkers to register their first 1300+ score of 2022. Forward/ruck Tim English (152) was best afield whilst usual suspects Scott Pendlebury (124), Jack Steele (121) and Dayne Zorko (105) all reached triple figures playing in the midfield. Forward/midfielder Jade Gresham (102) started on the interchange and registered his second ton of the season. Another four Devils scored in the 80's including 19 year old defender Jake Bowey (89) after his best afield 151 in Round 2.
