Powlett Plains Packers 1341 def Birdsville Battlers 1179
A dominant midfield display and even contributions across the board set up a commanding win for the Packers. The Packers had this one in hand a long way from home, so much so that late call up Claye Beams wasn't even required to secure the win. On the other hand, a season low score for the Battlers as their defenders - the saviours all season so far - suffered a collective let down. Coach JC got ok, if largely uninspiring scores everywhere else.
Best:
Packers - Mundy 124, Williams, 122, Miles 121
Battlers - Ebert 106, White 100

Whitsunday Warriors 1006 def by Larrikin Lagoon Lefties 1206
A quality midfield effort sees the Lefties get the job done against a struggling Warriors outfit that got precious little from its backline. For the Lefties, Priddis and Mitchell continue to show that youth isn't everything, while TiB was just grateful he had some Wines available this week to take the edge off Motlop's horror outing.
Best:
Warriors - Barlow 133, Kennedy 105, Lobbe 104
Lefties - Priddis 128, Mitchell 123, Lewis 117

Charlies Opening 1356 def Darraweit Guim Dirigibles 1224
Lead by the Steeplechaser, the Spelunkers got quality contributions from the lot as they cleared another hurdle in the form of the Dirrigibles. Kane Cornes missed a fairytale ending twice, bowing out in an upset in both the AFL and the FA. With talk of possible tanking surrounding the Spelunkers in recent times, one wonders whether Coach Bandit is left cursing another win?
Best:
Spelunkers - Blicavs 134, Hooker 115, Jack 107
Dirigibles - Maric 125, Fireman Kane 122, Armitage 101

Iron Knob Codpieces 1226 def Cradle Mountain Devils 1182
In a game filled with highs (the Other Reiwoldt, Pendles) and lows (five scores under 50), Jack Redden's late withdrawal appears to have cost the Devils a much needed win against the Codpieces, who get pull a get out of jail card (or possibly a Jack Redden voodoo doll) from nowhere as they continue to learn what life is like in the land of mere mortals.
Best:
Codpieces - Reiwoldt mark II 146, Griffen 120, Gray 119
Devils - Pendles 135, Hurley 121, Goldsack 111

Mount Beauty Uglies 1307 def Marble Bar Misfits 1180
The Uglies forward line was a thing of beauty this week as a dominant forward display, and the return of the Metal Posterior, helped the boys from Mount Beauty to a comfortable win over the Misfits. Coach Len will be having nightmares about his defensive line this week as his two best defenders face the prospect of a short rest - one after getting knocked out and the other for attempting to knock someone out.
Best:
Uglies - Boyd 132, Martin 121, Bennell 120
Misfits - Smith 114, Yeo 111, Ward 109

Gundagai Grasshoppers 1084 def by Foul Bay Chickens 1404
I am to the Chooks alleged injury crisis what Tony Abbott is to climate change. Doesn't exist. Didn't happen. Complete bollocks. Another lazy 1400+score, top of the table and the highest scoring team in the league. You tell me, folks! Meanwhile, Coach sNoZ has suggested that the Hoppers laundry staff face an uphill battle to get the tyre marks off the jersey's for next week's game after the Chooks made road kill out of his defensive unit. At least the fantasy pig showed signs of returning to full fitness.
Best:
Hoppers - Neale 141, Rocky 120, McCarthy 114
Chooks - Danger 130, Montagna 128, Dahlhaus 124,

Venus Bay Vultures 1497 def Gariwerd Cockatoos 1155
Jack Steven had a day out as the Vultures continued to flex their considerable muscle, belting out the week's top score again and comfortably accounted for the Cockatoos. Gariwerd held their own in a great midfield battle but, like a number of teams this week, their scores in the defensive line were on the nose.
Best:
Vultures - Steven 171, Parker 124, Green 118
Cockatoos - Deledio 142, Guthrie 121 (& Juddy's jumper), Wallis 115

Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles 1352 def Wagga Wagga Wombats 1020
The Cows were better in every line and dished out a footy lesson to a disappointing Wombats outfit. With the exception of Shiel, the Wombats usually reliable midfielders were soundly beaten as the Cows did as they pleased. Coach Graeme will no doubt be pleased that Sauce Jacobs appears to have rediscovered his consistency.
Best:
Cows - Hannebery 138, Fyfe 128, Jacobs 118
Wombats - Shiel 121

Nunawading Nuffers 1313 def Lovely Banks Lilacs 1037
The self-proclaimed ‘skeleton crew' knocked out 7 tons on the way to 1300 and a big win against the Lilacs. Varcoe and Simpson gave the Lilacs forwards no chance, while Mike Pyke gave his own Lilacs next to nothing in the ruck and was monstered by NicNat. Josh Caddy was the shining light for the Lilacs. Coach Andy was last seen on King St celebrating the win and the club has asked you notify them immediately if you see him. They are happy to pay to keep any incriminating footage from going public.
Best:
Nuffers - Simpson 149, Varcoe 145, Stanton 119
Lilacs: Caddy 113

The Ladder:

Next Week:

Round 9 29.05 - 31.05 Fellowship Round

Last year was such a great experience, so once again, we would like to propose that at an agreed time when everyone (even simonoz) can participate, that we all raise a glass (or a cuppa) to the other seventeen ORFFA coaches and acknowledge what a fantastic group of people have got together to have fun.

Birdsville Battlers v Whitsunday Warriors

Powlett Plains Packers v Charlies Opening Spelunkers

Larrikin Lagoon Lefties v Iron Knob Codpieces

Darraweit Guim Dirigibles v Mt Beauty Uglies

Cradle Mountain Devils v Gundagai Grasshoppers

Marble Bar Misfits v Venus Bay Vultures

Foul Bay Chickens v Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles

Gariwerd Cockatoos v Nunawading Nuffas

Wagga Wagga Wombats v Lovely Banks Lilacs

Great writeup, thanks!
Amazing that we have 7 teams all locked in 1st on 6-2!

Let's try work out a time that we can all log into the chat to share a drink or something :)

During a game would be good I think. Like last year. Didn't we do it at half time of a game last year - is that right?

That's right ant, I do not remember whether it was the Friday or the Saturday evening. Once we agree I will be round for that spot - TiB and sNoZ are often the most difficult to rendezvous with.

I hope Andy will get home in time, especially now his afl mob have a new coach and renewed prospects.

Great read... Spelunkers tanking an abysmal failure given we are tied for first!

Epic fail bandit, I did say you were starting a week late :)

Thanks JC/Chris, great stuff

Yes we did - half time of one of the Saturday night games if memory serves. Allowed most of us to get online into the chat area and say hi

I wouldn't have minded if you tanked last weekend, but alas ....

Spot on. My defensive line has a puncture.

If I could only pump up the tyres in the midfield and up forward...... Tank? No, the tanks full thanks Bandit.

Of which four teams feature in two Round 9 clashes. Should sort out some of the chaff from the wheat!

On befalf of the board and the player group, would just like to apologise to the fans for the pathetic carlton-like effort we dished up on the weekend. We can assure it will not happen again and are desperate to turn it around this week.

I'm looking forward to some fellowship on Saturday night. I shall continue the Fellowship on Sunday as Bearfly will be in Melbourne and we'll catch up for a drink at the Mitre. Must remember not to come from the King street end. Seem to recall something about a tab at some of the establishments. Thanks for the heads up Chris, Nice work.

Great work as always Chris (presume you did this one).
I'm next on the roster for round 9 write up, all sweet.

Yeah i'll vote for Sat night Fellowship.
Hopefully wont be drowning sorrows on another Port loss.

While it is true that we are starting to get a few back down at Chookland Chris, we were still missing Libba and Jaensch to ACL's and Bartel from our first choice 15. We have lost Judd for a week this week too so that makes four from our best 15 for this week.

I know that others are in worse spots and I am glad that I have a bit of depth in the side too (Jordan Murdoch and Aaron Vandenberg would have been nice ins last week had I picked them) but my position is not as grand as you make it out to be either. I can be beaten any week by any side which was obviously not the case for the last few years. We will not be accepting flag favouritism, nor will we even be accepting favouritism this week against Mr. Fyfe, Mr. Hanneberry, Mr. Jacobs, Mr. McVeigh and co. at Cowland.

The problem with having a team full of babies - sometimes they go bang & sometimes they leave their diapers on and sh%$ themselves :(

Great write up, thanks guys. snoz

This one was mine, CR. When I saw you on top of the ladder I couldn't resist a gentle dig at your expense. All in good fun. :)

Way, way too modest Chief. As noted when you posted the 2015 odds, short the Cows and back the Chooks.

That said it would have been nice to have B Crouch, Nicky Dal and Ryan Harwood on the track for this week's encounter. Best of luck mate, the prize for being beaten is a better draft pick in the MSD (which somehow seems wrong).

Bloody good write up JC. Thanks heaps. Looking forward to catching up at some stage this weekend as part of fellowship round.

As for my mob - a few challenges lay ahead without Kane Cornes helping prop up the midfield/give me four functioning midfielders. I think a couple of mid/fwds may have to be moved further up the ground to lighten the load.

Hoping that a fit Andrew Walker might return, and that Seb Ross isn't too far away. Going to be a challenge overcoming Mt Beauty's top class midfield this week.

Well, you have got Harwood up for his first game of the year - and against his old club no less. Hope he goes well.

And losing could improve MSD draft position by more than one spot. Hmmmm, nah, can't tank.

Here's to a good game!
