The inaugural 6 stubby derby has played out to a tense finish with official scores giving the Chumps a narrow victory 1185-1163 thanks to clutch tons from NicNat and Montagna

A more detailed review is posted at

Well played @choppers, i am sure the Chumps will enjoy a well earned XXXX while the 29ers commiserate with their Tooheys and make a blood oath to extract revenge the next time the 2 sides meet

Maralinga have take out the inaugural SA Power Cup with a 1241 to 1175 victory over @MrsBear Port Lincoln.

The bookies couldn't split the two teams before the match, and the game lived up to these expectations, being a see-sawing affair with several lead changes.

The Atoms suffered from a lack of specialist defenders, with out-of-position Rhys Stanley (33) and Darcy Lang (29), having to pinch hit down back. Stanley kept Tom Lynch (Ade) quiet, with the power forward only able to post 74. However Jarryd Blair had a field day playing on the inexperienced Lang, scoring 108 to be one of the Power's best.

At the other end of the ground Rance (84) negated N. Riewoldt (82), who had been one of Maralinga's stand-outs in the last few weeks, but Vlastuin and Fantasia couldn't keep up with Dusty Martin, who ran amok with 118.

However, like all matches, this was won in the centre of the ground. Gibbs (147) had a day out for Maralinga, with 30 touches and a goal to be BOG. He was well supported by Coniglio, who continued his break-out year with a 118, taking his five round average to 120. Unfortunately for Port Lincoln, Parker (75) and Ziebell (72) both had a rare off-day, which ultimately was the difference between the two sides.

The win was Maralinga's fourth on the trot and sees them sitting in 9th, while Port Lincoln have fallen to 15th.

Next week sees the Atoms travel to @jamabadar Virgins, with both sides needing a win to keep in touch with the top 8. The Power meanwhile host the Shags in what should be another tightly contested game.

Round 8 ORFFF action saw Useless Loop, Cockburn and Drouin all score in excess of 1400 points.

The 8 rivalry matches saw home wins for Jan Juc, Maralinga and Heard Island and away wins for Drouin, Neptune Island, Chinchilla, Cockburn and Useless Loop. Mt Thirsty vs Useless Loop was an action packed WA derby with the aggregate score the 4th highest in ORFFF history and the highest for match not featuring the Avengers.

Black Swamp vs Chinchilla was the close one with the final margin being 22 points. By contrast Drouin vs Mole Creek saw the ORFFF’s 2nd biggest winning margin ever with the visitors prevailing by 406 points in a one sided affair.

The top 8 saw little change with the top 3 now well set and Jan Juc and Dingo Beach swapping 7th and 8th spots. Maralinga are only 56 “points scored” behind 8th position while the trailing 6 teams are each (to varying extents) capable of finishing in the top 8 provided they have decent luck from here forward with injury and suspension and are able to capitalise on the upcoming ORFFF Mid Season Trading and Draft period.

Drouin and Neptune Island remain undefeated after 8 rounds but barring a draw the status quo will be shattered when the 2 sides clash in Round 9.
