In a very close game at The Chinchilla Showgrounds, The Chumps have held on to win their 5th game by 29 points against the fast finishing Useless Loop Virgins. Final Score 1298 to 1269. BOG: 3. Steele Sidebottom 166 (ULV) 2. Kade Simpson 129 (ULV) 1. Koby Stevens 123 (CC)
It appears that the visitors have been able to take advantage of a major mid match momentum shift with the Northern New South Welshmen managing a boilover victory 1379-1282 over the home side (@thokash) a more detailed match summary is posted at http://tooserious.net/forum/threads/black-swamp-29ers-team-thread.89097/
The boozers game was like my beloved bombers today. Contest was over by quarter time. Looks like a 200+ loss this week :-(
In a win that coach Minton-Connell described as "staggering" Mole Creek have snuck home against Port Lincoln in a thriller 1183 to 1151. This gives Mole Creek their first road win as well as taking them to 3-2 on the season. Having the 13th ranked attack in Points for counteracted by having 3rd ranked defence for points against.
The Fugitives have missed a chance to stay in touch with the upper echelon of the FF following a 104 point loss to the in form Drouin. The game despite the margin was a tight affair with the Fugitives narrowly taking out the battles in the defence and up forward. The midfield battle was a cracker with Pendlebury and Danger putting on a show for their respective teams. In the end in was the depth on the Drop Bears bench that sealed this game with regular whipping boys Scully & Matty Wright combining for 229 points to dominate Hodge and McGlynn who could only muster 164. This week the undefeated Drouin Drop Bears take on Dingo Beach Butchers in the game of the round as second plays fourth. For the Fugitives they need to regroup as they take on sixth placed Black Swamp as we look to square the ledger at 3 apiece.
There were more season low scores in Round 5 as injuries and non selection bites several teams but Maralinga and Black Swamp set their best scores with the Atoms clinching their maiden win and the 29ers making it three straight. Drouin managed their 2nd consecutive Victorian Derby win defeating the Fugitives to take out the 2016 EJ Whitten Shield (Inter Vic club round robin). Cockburn also shook the 500 pound gorilla with a lazy 315 point win over the Woylies who remain winless in 16th. Dingo Beach felt the bitter taste of defeat for the first time in Round 5 while the 3 leaders improved their perfect records to 5-0 and are all looking extremely likely to rack up the 10 home and away wins needed to secure a spot in the ORFFF top 4. A motley crew of teams lies behind Dingo Beach in 5th to 7th spots with all 3 moving into the 8 this week at the expense of Rutherglen, Useless Loop and Mt Thirsty while Jan Juc remain in 8th due to a healthy points for advantage over their fellow 2(win)-3(loss) teams. yep I'm "that guy" who is at the pointy end of the ladder but has scored significantly less than those around and below me... I HATE 'that guy'!!!!
