It's no surprise that the top two teams this season, on points and wins, are facing off in the ORFFL Grand Final #4. Details on both teams follow for the biggest regional football match that no one can bother driving all the way too, or grassing the field for (let alone paint the lines).

    SARAH ISLAND SAVAGES

    P17-W14-L2-D1

    Qualifying Final v Milikapti Snakes

    1539 def 1230 (JJ Kennedy 149, Sloane 140, Naitanui 137)

    Preliminary Final v Coulta Couldabeens

    1410 def 1347 (T.Mitchell 121, Mundy 119, JP Kennedy 117)

Was last season just a blip? If anything this season has proven that indeed 2014 was just an aberration for this all-conquering side, who showed little of the shock fragility that occurred in the Qualifying Final against Poowong. Their coached has gone all in this season cashing in their chips to get proven scorers into the side, regardless of age. You must marvel how dominant this team has been in the H&A season and in making 3/4 GFs. It's like the league was set up just for this purpose. In fact, Sarah Island are so good, there's little need to talk about how good they are, we all know it and you can always talk to Hornsy if you're unsure.

So, how could they lose? The Cephalofoilists scoring more is the obvious reason. But lets focus on the Savages themselves. Their biggest opponent before a fantasy stat is recorded in anger is Ross Lyon who looks set to cannibalise the squad with potentially up to four Dockers (Mayne, Mundy, Ibbo, Duffo) sitting out for no reason at all. Brent Harvey look set to face the same fate at North Melbourne. The Savages pride themselves on their depth, they've had to with injuries to the likes of Prestia and Sloane this year but can others step up as others go into hiding before the big show? Josh J Kennedy has won the Coleman medal almost literally one handed, but we all know how hard fantasy trophies are to grasp. Man of Steele looks set to firm up the squad if included in the Giants team for their last game of the season.

It's not like those on the periphery are that much of a concern either. To highlight the depth of the squad, of those that played last week 7 have averages for the season over 100 and a massive 17 of them (out of 20) average higher than 80. So there are players aplenty frothing at the mouth for a chance - and remember that doesn't include Crazy Robbo this year!

Time springs eternal at the Island but as with all premiership windows they must close eventually. With an evergreen squad that would make Woy Woy green with matured envy, they know the best time to take their chances is now and they are the clear favourites for obvious reason.

Sorry for the belatedness of this! Does someone with the logo template add it? Can’t find it myself atm.

Will add draft order and stuff to the end of it later on. Remember there’s a trade period during the AFL finals.

Also as an aside, interesting to note that there have already been 3 Wizards leave the tower despite a round of football to go. Will there be more? (The answer is most likely yes, since Fletch still hasn’t made an announcement).

Wouldn't it be a fairy tail if a Menzel ton got the Hammerheads over the line.

      Here we go!

Just letting everyone know the squads - think it will help people to check the different matchups and how the general could make a real impact later today.

These were the squads from last week's matches and of course things will change after tonight.

      R: Naitanui
      (R: Jacobs)

F: Harvey Mayne JJ Kennedy T Mitchell Waite
(F: Gray Jetta Carlisle Gunston Menzel)

      (INT: Hunt McKernan Garlett)

OTH: Duffield Lycett Steele Prestia Lester Henderson Rivers

Amazing, Sarah Island must've sent a few all-expenses junkets out to get Ibbo and Harvey to still be playing. Just as well really. Be disappointing if the ORFFL GF was over on Thursday.

      SARAH ISLAND
      IN: Steele*
OUT: Waite, M.Boyd, Mundy, Mayne, Williams
      Avail: 16

      HUMPTY DOO
      IN: Seedsman*
      OUT: Wright, Smith
      Avail: 19

Cheers for the write-up P_L. Very much appreciated.

      GL, Lucas.

GL to me too. Think I may need more of it.

And FFS Boyd, you were generally sore 2 weeks ago. Now I'm generally sore.

Best of luck to both combatants. Milikipati would like to remain neutral and continue our off-season of turtle hunting and crocodile dodging, but alas, we will be quietly rooting for Pops Kelly to go out a winner after his distinguished career at Milikiapiti. A premiership winning former Snake has a certain ring to it.

Given I only have 5 original Hammers, I'm pretty sure quite a few teams are contributing to the HDH grand final squad. Unless it was all thanks to the Thunda/Seagulls.

Yes, the investment in Boyd not paying off at this stage...

I've done my expected teams and on season averages: 1363 SAR v 1353 HDH
That's obviously including 119 for Menzel for HDH (without which it'd end up being 1288)

Last 3 game form for expected teams (assuming Duffield emg and Steele in)
      SAR 1361 v HDH 1438.3 (or 1389.7 Menzel adjusted)

This week it's all about muscle/points memory (how well performed in a season) vs form.

Just as a side note, I do find it hilarious the ways that life (AFL) imitates art (ORFFL). First the trading of future picks being introduced - which the ORFFL has been doing for YEARS. and now the controversy over mass 'resting' of players - a pale facsimile of when Sarah Island attempted to rest its star players against Merton YEARS ago.

      Hypothetical:

If Ross Lyon walked into a bar at Sarah Island, what would happen?

We'd probably have a great chat about how Brad Scott isn't a coaches arsehole.
    16. port_leschenault
      port_leschenault
Scott didn't have anything to do with Freo players though.

Makes it all rather anticlimactic really.

This has been a rather interesting day! Hammerheads streaked way in front early and had a comfortable lead but in the premiership quarter the Savages have pulled back the margin and are now ahead. Amazing

      Current scores:

      SAR 1308/14 v HDH 1104/12
      Goddard v Carlisle, McKernan, Garlett
    18. thokash
      thokash
Can't see Savages losing from that position, but stranger things have happened!
    19. Lucas

1408 v 1359 - well played win for the Savages.

Menzel 19 was a painful performance, but no use of any other available personnel (Moore/Scharenberg/Daniher) would have been enough to bridge the gap. The substitutions of Neale and Menzel were probably enough to swing the tie, with Harvey's sub being cancelled out by Jetta.

Sarah Island players performed to above-average scores where Humpty Doo were at average - considering that so many players were taken out at the selection table this is a credit to both organisations but also testament to Sarah Island's depth across all positions. The loss of two starting defenders hurt HDH more than the loss of two starting midfielders for SAR.

      And...onto next season.
