Sure he's done his knee, but this is a keeper league and no coach drafts a rookie for what they'll achieve in their debut year - right? On the other side of the equation here are a few names - <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Menzel[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;], <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Morabito[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;], <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Patton[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]. Which is not to say that players (or even thoseexplicitly mentioned) don't, won't or can't come back from a serious knee injury(s) - look at <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Goddard[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;] and <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Malceski[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;] for two off the top of my head, just that it creates a measure of doubt in the minds of fantasy list managers.
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;]<strong style='font-size: 14px;]Stef Martin[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;] is another. We've just seen in the ORFFL a 93ppg RUC traded for a 109ppg MID. On that basis what is a 111ppg RUC worth on the open market? A <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Nat Fyfe[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]? Yes, there are questions over whether or Martin will be Brisbane's first choice RUC this season, but there are similar doubts on Brisbane other choice in <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Leuenberger[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]. ORFFL-wise I don't see the big man last beyond Jimcumbilly with the opportunity to handcuff him to theafore mentioned Leuenberger (and thenperhaps make some serious bank on trading out <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Nichols[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]). The complication to this of course is that Coulta have the pick before them and a RUC combo of <strong style='font-size: 14px;]West[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;] and <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Redden[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]. Hmmm. Let that sink in.
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]And while not a player as such, the topic of drafting defenders this year will be&hellip;interesting. A sizeable majority of ORFFL teams this year have gone into this draft with less than 6 DEF's. And yet when you look at the draft pool for that position - before or after the delistments, it's as shallow as I've ever seen it. Well, actually not true. Their are plenty of names there, it's just that most of them have seen very little if any senior action and have the scores you'd imagine from that amount of game time. It's my prediction there'll be a <em style='font-size: 14px;]second round rush[span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;] on this position and plenty of speculative late round <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Jackson Allen[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]-types being selected.

  The Savages recruiting model catching on perhaps...Or perhaps ORFFL coaches can no longer rely on GWS and Gold Coast, and the others tbh (flow on effect of 2 teams dominating the drafts so comprehensively for the past few years), to play all the blue chip youngsters that have been so prominent in the last few drafts??

  Possibly. My view is that the ORFFL market has reached nearer the saturation point for developing players than previous years and the pendulum has swung the other way towards mature aged.
  
  I'm sure we'll see some more rookies get drafted in the next 2 rounds anyway.

  This is just a personal opinion, but in terms of game mechanics I prefer choices that entail a degree of risk on the part of the chooser, but balancing this against decisions that could result in vast inequality between the competitors.
  
  Not being able to trade during a draft necessitates gambling on where your draft pick(s) needs to be to get your desired player(s). Being able to trade during the draft could mean the elimination of this element of risk if teams are able to simply trade to get back the player they had missed out on.
  
  Now of course coaches could always configure these same (or similar) deals at later trade periods, but by this time attachment syndrome has set in and the decisions become that much harder (heartvshead stuff). Which I like because sacrifice begets meaning which in turn begets investment and enjoyment.
  
  The second point of deregulating the market for future picks I think could also result in a team making an horrendous error in judgement and paying the price for YEARS to come. Which in a league such as ours could mean that coach walking away and us having to find a new coach to manage a severely disadvantaged list, or be granted concessions that would naturally disadvantage the other coaches in the league (a majority of which are clearly against such measures - self-interest being a safe horse to back in most cases).
  
  None of this is to say that these things will happen or that the proposed measures shouldn't happen. I just like us all to be abreast of the how these changes could effect the game mechanics so that we're all informed before we do something.

  I am not sure in-draft trading eliminates the risk, but rather modifies it somewhat, the risk remains, jut a different risk. But I do see your point.

  People have become smarter about who they draft, therefore who they delist has become better too, therefore the better the FA market.
  
  That and the realisation that a team half full of rookies means the risk of not fielding a starting 15 is very high.
