<p style='background-color: #ffffff;]Finally, after a long and arduous pre season campaign the draft is finally here. Remember the rule folks:
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;]<strong style='font-size: 14px;]Coaches have 24 hours to make their pick. If they fail to do so they will be auto drafted the highest averaging player from 2014 still on the board.[/b]
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]I think that was it, wasn't it. They're weren't any other rules were there?
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]Of course, coaches are welcome to pick before then once this thread is up…<strong style='font-size: 14px;]BUT[/b]
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]If I read anting <strong style='font-size: 14px;]BANG[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]ing or <strong style='font-size: 14px;]TUTT[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]ing or <strong style='font-size: 14px;]ANY OTHER SMARTARSE HURRY UP[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;] from other coaches before the official start time of<strong style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]Friday 27th February at 7pm AEDT [/b][span style='font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit;]walesy has assured me that I'm fully within my rights to respond with a level of vitriol, smut andbothpersonal and professional denigration never before seen on the likes of this website.
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]After the start time of course, <strong style='font-size: 14px;]BANG[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]ing and <strong style='font-size: 14px;]TUTT[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]ing is fully acceptable. Remember though, we all have lives and families away from TS so everyone keep your pants on even if you managed to draft Petracca for a steal at P14 and want to startshirt cocking in celebration.
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]Speaking of which; talking points.
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;]<strong style='font-size: 14px;]Christian Petracca[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]. How far will the kid slide? Sure he's done his knee, but this is a keeper league and no coach drafts a rookie for what they'll achieve in their debut year - right? On the other side of the equation here are a few names - <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Menzel[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;], <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Morabito[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;], <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Patton[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]. Which is not to say that players (or even thoseexplicitly mentioned) don't, won't or can't come back from a serious knee injury(s) - look at <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Goddard[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;] and <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Malceski[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;] for two off the top of my head, just that it creates a measure of doubt in the minds of fantasy list managers.
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;]<strong style='font-size: 14px;]Stef Martin[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;] is another. We've just seen in the ORFFL a 93ppg RUC traded for a 109ppg MID. On that basis what is a 111ppg RUC worth on the open market? A <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Nat Fyfe[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]? Yes, there are questions over whether or Martin will be Brisbane's first choice RUC this season, but there are similar doubts on Brisbane other choice in <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Leuenberger[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]. ORFFL-wise I don't see the big man last beyond Jimcumbilly with the opportunity to handcuff him to theafore mentioned Leuenberger (and thenperhaps make some serious bank on trading out <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Nichols[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]). The complication to this of course is that Coulta have the pick before them and a RUC combo of <strong style='font-size: 14px;]West[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;] and <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Redden[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]. Hmmm. Let that sink in.
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]And while not a player as such, the topic of drafting defenders this year will be…interesting. A sizeable majority of ORFFL teams this year have gone into this draft with less than 6 DEF's. And yet when you look at the draft pool for that position - before or after the delistments, it's as shallow as I've ever seen it. Well, actually not true. Their are plenty of names there, it's just that most of them have seen very little if any senior action and have the scores you'd imagine from that amount of game time. It's my prediction there'll be a <em style='font-size: 14px;]second round rush[span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;] on this position and plenty of speculative late round <strong style='font-size: 14px;]Jackson Allen[/b][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]-types being selected.
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]But enough from me, it's over to you guys. Who do you like in the draft? Why do you like them? Where are you thinking of picking them?
<p style='background-color: #ffffff;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #ffffff;]Answers below, please.

He has definitely shown signs he can be that player but just hasn't done it consistently. Some big scores but too many ordinary ones unfortunately. Big year for Busternuts.

Ah, he was still around at 37. That's nice.
Might have a bit more of an opportunity now Greenwood has moved on, and can play if not in the subs vest.

Does anyone know why Laverde has been left out of the squad for the NAB Challenge game?

Probably drugs.

Reductor tendonitis according to someone on the Essendon BF board. Whatever that is.

Thanks Kel, it's a mystery tendon it seems...

it's probably drugs though. Hornsy knows about these things.

Will the same level of analysis be provided on the 2nd round of PSD selections?

Round Two Review (let's see how long I can keep this up)

- Laverde. Classy pick. Admittedly I've soured on him post-AF Draft, however before that I was a big wrap for the elusive, rangy-ish flanker.

- Maynard. With a name like Brayden all I can say is that he'll fit in at Collingwood. At the 'Yinning? Sure, why not? They need DEF's better than JJ.

- Turner. Not a lot of data on Kanye, but then again, there's more AFL data on him than any of the rookies. I like the pick for Woy Woy.

- Wallis. Love it. Disagree with J, think with Libba down he'll be given the crack at the inside mid role (or one of them at any rate). Won't be as good at it obviously, but I can comfortably see Where's The Boy averaging above 80ppg this year. Which is just what Coulta need in the midfield.

- Ceglar. Martin and Weller or Brayshaw and Ceglar? Who would you rather have? For me it's a wash but I'd say for many if not most others that they'd take the latter. Big Gary is obviously of a similar mind.

- Pickett. Big slide from the real and too good for TLP to pass up. Tidy work.

- Weller. Another sliding midfielder as is the established way in the ORFFL PSD. Like the player but it could be a longer term investment for SBS given Freo already have one young Lachie in their side already (bit risky to play 2 Lachie's in the same team - trust me I know).

- Taberner. Thought MIL may have gone a round or two early on this one, yet that is clearly their M.O (see Simpson, Dawson). Still, handcuffing is never a bad option (see Casboult, Levi).

- Colyer. An upgrade on Kommer I guess.

- Ray. Clearly picking a safety MID here and not a bad one under that criteria. I question whether R2 is the time to fill that position though. What do I know though?

- Picken. The harbinger for the run on DEF's (which didn't really come to pass if I'm being honest). Solid pick and nice cutting of Lucas' lunch the pick before him.

- Smith. A less accumulative, better kicking Picken. A wash.

- Duryea. Don't quite grasp why they didn't just delist JJ and keep this guy on their list. Is there something about JJ I'm missing here? Anyone?

- CRISP. Been earmarked to take over Macaffer's role. Fez picking like it's 2013 (which is probably a step-up from 2014 at any rate).

- Impey. No idea if the guy will be able to increase the amount of ball he wins/is given, but he's young enough to take a chance on and in PA's best 22.

- Ellis, Xavier. Perfect Sam Butler replacement.

- White, Matt. I would've gone Bastinac for this role. On the other hand Port will probably win more games so it's a bit of a wash really.

- Craig David. You're an arsehole, P_L.

Doubt it, I imagine it will degrade the further it goes on.

Also, here's something we should maybe have a chat about. Walesy, Tino, bgt; you may want to close your ears but you really shouldn't as it concerns you guys too.

Essendon.

My view, and that's all it is, is that we drafted our initial squads in 2012, would have heard the whispers that year, then had both 2013 and 2014 knowing the risk these players were under if or when suspensions were to come to pass. So I don't think there should be any concessions for teams that have ESS players should they suffer some kind of suspension.

On the other hand I'm all for speculative drafting of Clisby's and such on the chance that they get called up to the big leagues this year. And by that I mean I personally wouldn't draft them, but I'm fine if anyone else wants to have a ping at them. Your choice.

Discuss.

I think this probably explains the previous drafting policy of the meerkats... avoid Essendon!

I'm not expecting Crameri to start in R1. I was aware of the risk when I traded him into my squad.

I agree with your view - no concessions for tribunal bans on players who were on ESS list in 2012 (i.e. includes Ryder, Crameri, Monfries - anyone else that I'm overlooking?)

Keep it coming H, good to read.

Pyrite have always rated JJ, certainly more highly than I do. I haven't seen enough of Duryea to be convinced, but I would have thought his SC expectations would be similarish to JJ at this stage of their careers.

I was tossing up between M.White a C.Daniel, but I certainly wasn't about to draft Bastinac at 35.

Great stuff H. Pickett too good to let slip through. Was hoping to get Kanye but Gumby snuck in before me. Happy to get a slider though with F/M status.
Wallis, I just don't see it myself but there is plenty of discussion on that already. Certainly the Libba injury may provide more opportunity.
A few solid depth selections coming in early which was a bit of a surprise.
I do like the Crisp selection. Think he will be more than steak knives in the Beams deal.
A lot of love for Caleb Daniel here. 2015 version of Lewis Taylor?
