    Trades:

    Grant 306
    Polec 343
    Wellingham 331
    Guerra 318

Combined picks exactly equal in trade 1. Could not be fairer.

    Henderson 387
    Johnson 450

Interestingly Johnson's preseason pushed his trade value up a mid season draft pick

Lucas loading up to go for a premiership tilt this year and next it looks like!

  5. In the cold light of day, I'm still happy with my trade.

Wellingham, Guerra may be greater than Grant, Polec, but

Wellingham on the bench and Guerra/2 not greater than Polec benched and Grant

I am so happy to welcome Alger Baric into my list. Combining his intelligence, with the raw power of Relton Roberts, I can see things coming together quite nicely.

Johnny, I'm not sure about loading up for now. I guess I might be. Polec could be anything, but I've lost faith in Grant.

Guerra is certainly short term, and I'm not happy to trade out Johnson. I still think Johnson though will hit about 65-70 as a score limit, and this means I could still pick up someone in the mid-season draft to cover that role. Two first round picks will give me a nice hit there.

Henderson, I'm just hoping for short-term job security until players like Varcoe and Menzel return. When this occurs, hopefully mid-season, giddy up.

Coulta Couldabeens & Humpty Doo Hammerheads trade

Ricky Henderson & 1st round mid-season draft pick from Coulta Couldabeens
    for
Alex Johnson & 2nd round mid-season draft pick from Humpty Doo Hammerheads</blockquote>

I just don't understand this trade at all. BF, what was your motivation for this? Seems like you gave up a higher selection and a higher mid-seaseon draft pick for a lower selection and a lower mid-season draft pick.

    Colour me confused.

Guess we all rate players differently. Personally would have thought both those guys were worth a straight swap.

I think BB will be the big winner from the trades. Polec will be a gun. Shame he had to get a spud to go with it. Does that make it a 'spud gun' trade?

On that trade, Henderson will be in and out of the side under Sanderson's coaching and with the Porpoise back and I rate AJ as a quality defender in the making - expect AJ to average more and play more than Henderson.

Plus with Laidler out for a while, shoring up the defence was a priority for me and I was prepared to pay a bit of a premium to ensure this happened.

Agree on this JS issue with Henderson, but better than nothing, and if I have to patch up my side, I can use Midseason Draft to do it.

Polec is a very good player, not sure in the next 2-3 years he will pass Wellingham, and that's my window.

Thing is Wellingham does score very well when he's the key man in the middle. Just doesn't happen often.

I see improvement from Wellingham, Beams and Sidebottom as important for the Pies to surge in September.

OK, I knew you would have had your reasons. Why didn't you take AJ earlier yourself in the draft in that case? Did you more recently change your assessment of him perhaps?

In hindsight, I would've grabbed AJ when I picked up Jeremy Taylor - but at the time I was flat out at the Tunarama festival and didn't have the time to go through my list properly as I would've been holding up the flow of the draft for too long.
Then when Laidler went down with his injury, I considered looking for a suitable trade, however until Saturday night there didn't seem to be all that much interest amongst ORFFL coaches to trade anything apart from potatoes :)

The other thing is I'm well aware trading could cost me big time, but that's half the fun of trading.

Everyone will see me (as well as Bear and BB) as someone to approach next time because we get the deals done, where all the other nervous Nellies think about what could go wrong and the boat goes sailing down the Derwent.
