If there was ever a time this year to show the potential we have it had to be this game, Buffalos are a mighty team and if it wasn't for having to field Jones 26 they would have broken 1400, ex Viney started slowly but then on to scored over 60 in the second half and a comeback Dangerfield lazy 96. Buffalos put it all on the line and can hang there heads high as 99% in any other match would have came out the victors. How did the Vikings do it, had 3 highest scores in the game 189,147 and 144, second choice ruck also hit 108, could we have broke 1600 ...... possibility as Crouch can't get a game in seniors. Heart Stopper @ Mill Park One of the games of the FU season took place at Mill Park over the weekend. It was a tough hard fought affair that had it all, injuries, goals and dour defence. All this resulted in a 4 point win for the visitors! The game started with 2 Cuda's going down with hammy's in the first quarter, Hall & Zorko were to play no further part. The Bulls couldnt capitalise on this numerical advantage with Gunston & Rowe effectively doing their hammys in the first quarter given the low impact they had on the game. Guthrie was best on with 134, Hawkins had a field day up front with 129 & the Bont rounded out a clean sweep of votes for the away team. For the Bulls Maynard & Conilglio led the way raising the bat. When Lobb - 98 kicked 3 goals in the third it looked like the Bulls had broken the back of the ladder leaders but the Cudas found a way as good teams do to get the job done. Match report Pakenham v Ararat A blockbuster match for the home team this week taking on one of the power clubs of the league. The fans had high hopes for the Parasites, who have shown a little bit this season, to hopefully take it to the Armadillos and keep it competitive. Pakenham did more then keep it competitive, they somehow snuck out a win Pakenham 1242 defeating Ararat 1176 The home team posted a good score, with some great performances from Sinclair 150 Anderson 132 Blicavs 118 Hogan 105 Moore 99 and others all doing their part. A pleasing showing The away team was lead well by Brayshaw 134 Rowell 113 Treloar 109 McDonald 104 and Rozee 98 but unfortunately the others couldn’t muster enough to get the job done. In a very underwhelming start to the Rd17 clash at The Stadium between the visiting 6th placed Prospectors and the 13th placed Barcrawlers, the locals have posted a disappointing 2/110, while Coolgardie have yet to take the field. @JPK
Progress report from the Stadium has Banchang leading Coolgardie 4/265 to 1/69, with Reid scoring 109, going into the Ruck after Ladhams (46) retired with a broken thumb early in the qtr. Apparently McInerny 69, was the only Prospector to surface, after the team fully availed themselves of the Banchang hospitality last night.....not a cocktail to be seen.. @JPK
@JPK Yeah mate, it was taken at the height of the pre-game party, just before I was able to show Nick Larkey some real Banchang Hospitality, slipping him a few "Banchang Specials", which paid off for the Barcrawlers when he could only partially recover in time to make your I/C bench.... Could still come back to haunt me if Aliir or Fort goes down...especially with all the Covid outs at Brissy....
Aliir is playing, on track for 80-odd. Guess I have to hope that Fort gets sick after being recalled, or kicks a bag himself! Who would have thought a Roos FF would kick 5 goals and score 100+ points this season?
Latest score from The Stadium sees the Barcrawlers 11/963 leading the Prospectors 9/742. In this very even period of play, with both teams giving it their all, the locals, with L D-U (149), newest recruit Finlayson (111) and the ole fella with the razor cut, Elliott (99) leading the way and piling on 698, were well matched by the visitors (673), with Touk Touk (135) and Short (95) relishing his new role in the middle. It all comes down to the next period of play with Coolgardie, Sicily, O'Meara, The BIG O, ex-Barcrawler Wright, Fort and Waterman trying to bridge the 221 point gap and outscore the Barcrawlers who have Doedee Dawson Duggan and Hewett trying to stop them. Full Time at The Stadium and the Barcrawlers have held on to defeat the Prospectors 1359-1285. In the final stanza of play, Banchang's defence was too strong for the visitors with all 4 scoring well, led by Hewett 123, ex-Prospector Duggan 101, Doedee 92, and Dawson 80. Coolgardie tried hard and with 2 extra players, were in with a chance. Led by Wright 118, who made his way to Coolgardie in the trade with Duggan, the Big O 115, Sicily 92, O'Meara 86 and Fort 81, they found the deficit of 221 at the beginning of play, a hurdle too high to overcome. Round 17 Ararat vs Christmas Island 2 injury riddled sides surprisingly managed to cobble together a full 22 (15) and provide a decent matchup. It would have been ball chafingly close had Answerth actually rocked up, however he was busy at local eatery Fat Burger, so Chrissy Island had to play a man down. The visiting Smugglers enjoyed the resurgence of St Kilda Crouch (108) while his brother languishes in the twos, former Dillo Jed Anderson (135) and captain potential himself Charlie Curnow (142) all went triple figures. Aforementioned Anderson scored a career high, as did Laverde (111). De Koning had a great 91 in the Ruck and there may just be a sniff of "Green Shoots" down at Smuggletown. For the home side, Highmore (74) did well covering for injuries to Tom Stewart, Harry Perryman & Lachie Bramble, while Rozee went large (154) & Brayshaw did Brayshaw things (132). @HOLKY apologies for the late report ROUND 16 Match Report Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1,184 defeated by Eden Whalers 1,229 In a topsy turvy game Eden were finally able to take the game away from the locals by 45points. Hughenden went into the game without a ruckman yet again and this was the difference with Flynn (105) taking full advantage of the stand in P Dog of Logue (28). While Oliver (176) , I can rove anything continues to have a stella season, the rest of the team is letting him down with only Morrison (100) being able to have any influence on the game with presence across the forward/midfield. Hughenden continues to ponder it’s structure with poor performances from Battle (36) and Rayner (38) and the ongoing injury problems with Yeo (63) pulling a hamstring (yeoooooooo) early in the 3rd Enough of Hughenden’s problems. Eden should be well pleased with their effort. Lead by Flynn (105) in the ruck, Broad (115) down back and an unstoppable forward line of Dixon(96), Close (93) and McCarthy (112) showing enough grit to secure the win. The Whalers are starting to gain momentum following the mid-season byes and will be looking to inflict some pain to the teams around them in a quest to make a finals series appearance. Hughenden will need to regroup and forget about 2022 with some players needing an improved performance if they are playing on with the P Dogs next year. Round 17 Match Report Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1,316 defeat Southern Cross Sandgropers 1,221 The humiliation of losing last week in a sub-par performance and a massive spray from the coach shocked the team into action this week resulting in an unexpected win against the visiting Gropers. Hughenden went into the game without a ruckman yet again and although the Gropers Cameron (93) dominated the ruck over Logue (43) but their midfield was unable to capitalise with only Laird(125) being able to find the ball. The Hughenden midfield of Oliver (124), Mills (138) and Ward (113) dominated for Hughenden and although the Southern Cross backs battled hard through Docherty (131) and Bowes(102) it was wasn’t enough to hold back the onslaught of Battle (111), Morrison (90) and Langford (107) of the bench. The Sandgropers will be most disappointed with their forward line of Rioli (67), Darling (59), Koschitzke (45) and Mihocek (22) who just failed to fire with Hughenden’s backs doing the job led by DBJ(101) and Cox (90). This game effectively summed up Hughenden’s season, occasional high scores showing plenty of promise countered by low scoring inept performances. The Hughenden faithful were rewarded with win for their final home game of the season with 3 away games to finish their season. Southern Cross will rue the loss as it ends their chances of making the 2022 finals series.
