@bryzza if the full-time stats are accurate, it looks like M Owies did everything possible to lose it for the Prospectors, but we still managed to fall over the line infront.... just....
Full time at the Sandpit, and Southern Cross 1363/14/97, have finished strongly, smashing @HOLKY ‘s Eden 929/15/62, by 434 points. Match report to follow. Go Sandgropers!!!
I have Groote getting over the line by 14 points with Cripps dragging the team over the line. Looking forward to hopefully some revenge in the finals!
Round 8 Ararat vs Banchang Always a cordial affair, the Barcrawlers were welcomed by all of the rotund population of Ararat. @choppers did everything he could to lose this match, but unfortunately he was still too good despite several underperforming players. Jordan Dawson (134) continued his emergence, proving that it doesnt matter if he's a swan or a crow, he will dominate as any type of bird. The often overlooked Ed Langdon (126) got some supercoach reward for his tireless running and disciplined play on the wing and Peter Wright, who many thought was wrong, continues to be a steady influence on the forward line, adding 113 this round. In an ominous sign that contradicts the current ladder, all other Barcrawlers performed either below their average or below their capability. After the locals finished second lunch and awoke from food comas, they spared some time to spray the majority of the Armadillo outfit. Ever reliable Brayshaw (134) and Perryman (92) proved oncemore they can be counted on, however the forward line is in shambles and even The Peoples Beard struggled after copping a knock to the knee. Unfortunately for the coaching team and selection committee, the magnets cant exactly be thrown around, as the cupboard is bare at present. AA 1131 def. by BB 1239
Cow Bay 1,141 def Hughenden 1,054 Two bottom 6 teams with a combined total of 2 wins this season battled it out for win number 2 in 2022. To make it fairer, both teams decided to not have any recognised ruckmen in the match but the PDawgs coach decided to call upon Morrison. It made the loss more bearable for the visitors but it was the Crocs who recorded an 87 point win. 2nd year defender Chapman took home the BOG honours in what was a dominating performance from the Crocs' defensive 4. Wilkie (117) and Scrimshaw (109) hit triple digits with Clark (95) not far off. Bolton (101) was the hardest working mid for the home side and the crowd also made Zak Jones (49) feel welcome in his first game for the season. Unsurprisingly Oliver (135) was best on for Hughenden but was severely let down by his teammates. Berry (90), Battle (89) and Cox (88) were next best but 7 players scored under 70 points in addition to Morrison's 50 point effort in the ruck. Raynor (73) continues to find his feet after his ACL last year but Breust (31) seems to be starting to show signs of age. Big Tap Williams MIA def by Morrison 50 BAFFU 3 Chapman, COW, 136 2 Oliver, HPD, 135 1 Wilkie, COW, 117 The win sees the Crocs rise 2 spots on the ladder to 14th whereas the PDawgs drop to 17th. @Batfink
Match report from Pakenham This week the home fans welcomed their close friends the Blowflys to town. We were excited to have another contender to go up against to see how we are tracking. Unfortunately we had another reminder that we are still a few years away. The visitors dominating winning easily. Korumburra 1374 defeat Pakenham 941 The blowflys had some impressive performers with Boak 149 and Goldy 142 doing most of the damage, the other flys Howard 124 Hind 112 and Preuss 103 also did well. Quality effort from all The Parasites had Cerra 114 and Blicavs 111 doing there bit, with most others having stinkers Not good enough to hang with the big boys just yet. Was a promising start to the year for Pakenham but these last few weeks have shown we are along way off. The Blowflys march on. BOG 3. Boak 149 2. Goldmember 142. 1. Final result from the Horsham V Pearcedale match with the Panthers taking an easy 197 point win (925 vs 1122). The Huskies actually got the job done on average (77 to 75), but were playing three short and that was the difference in an otherwise close match up. Pearcedale were well lead by Darcy (178) and Brodie (115). Supporting performances from Ellis (98) and Day (93) got the Panthers to a reasonable score. Horsham's top performers were Witts (132), Fiorini (106) and Harmes (101). Pearcedale grabbed their second win of the season and moved up to 15th on the ladder. Horsham are now 2-6 and sitting 16th. After getting the opportunity in round 7 to watch their hometown heroes put in a commanding performance against Pakenham, there was no chance the Serengeti faithful were missing out on the opportunity to back up and watch the team fight it out against the Barracudas. In a contest that never fails to deliver a high quality spectacle, this years version of the growing rivalry was no different. There were star performances all over the park with Darcy Parish (139) continuing to go from strength to strength being equally matched by Dayne Zorko (123) who continued to prove you only need one leg to play football. Jeremy Cameron (106) shone up forward as he seems to finally be settling in to life after acquiring a big cat wildlife sanctuary on the edge of town that was distracting his attention. Aaron Naughton (124) ensured there was plenty of entertainment at both ends while Buafflo defenders Dyson Heppell (111) and late inclusion Charlie Ballard (105) and their Barracuda counter parts Jake Lloyd (116) and Jeremy McGovern (107) did their best to make it an even contest between attack and defense. There was nothing separating the two teams right throughout this matchup. Late in the game it looked as though the Buffaloes were finally starting to gain the ascendancy and would do enough to emerge victorious. That was until the encounter that had the whole crowd talking by games end. Somehow (most in the crowd were calling out the use of local witch doctors) Barracuda Patrick Cripps (151) seemed to convince Adam Saad (63) that they played for the same team and he didn't need to bother with any scoring. The tactic proved ultra effective with the Groote leader putting in a standout performance amongst a host of brilliant efforts while the Serengeti defender became the home team's weakest link and put in his worst performance of the year. In the end it was an 11 point victory to the visitors that kept the battle for the minor premiership well and truly alive and added another epic chapter to an already bulging catalogue of contests between these two clubs. @Mick , I’ve got you winning a nail biter by 3 points, 1338 to 1335. Disappointing to lose and not consolidate a spot on the ladder, although there’s still plenty to play out, but definitely entertained until the final siren! Go Sandgropers!!!
Just got the chance to have a look at the scores - nail biter indeed!! I had a fair bit going on socially this weekend - sorry about the lack of updates - would've been a cracking match to follow game by game! I'll try to do it some justice with a detailed match report. With the quality of your squad, I think you'll rack up plenty of wins on the run home. Hoping to avoid you in the finals - otherwise I'll take another 3 point victory in the GF!! ORFFU gods willing...
Full time at the Eden Den. Eden 1070 vs Coolgardie 1361 Our run of form continues with this one as we hold on for the MSD. The Prospectors midfield was the key difference, with all 4 of them getting 95+. McInerney got a big win in the ruck to set that up while the wayward forwards won with sheer weight of numbers. In fact, the margin could have been a lot more with accurate kicking. I would recommend accuracy drills for training as they face the top 4 Blowflies next week. Meanwhile, we face another top 8 side in Ararat. Hopefully, Pendles can book a flight there from Southern Cross as he seems to have missed the flight back. He'll be needed in the backline as Williams has gone out with an injury. 2 weeks til MSD. Giant Tap: McInerney 142 def Soldo 88 BAFFU: Wines 3, McInerney 2, Sicily 1
The Barracuda's finish on 1,463/15 97.5 to the Parasites @ddsaints 1,120/15 74.7 From the centre the big boys Stanley verses Marshall, the latter having it he way including a goal. However the home sides engine room was ticking over nicely lead by the Bont who also rested in the forward line and snapped one for good measure, the Magnificent Zorko moved to the midfield with 26 touches and a couple of goals, Corn Boy Cripps was tagged heavily by Anderson and Sidebum, while Cerra had 24 disposals and gun Sinclair had 31 touches but had to drift back to try and stem the hemorrhaging. Out of the strong hold of defense the home side let their young opposition known a thing or two about footy. Lloyd did Lloyd things, Tuohy was on fire and even crept forward to bang two through, Weitering was deadly by foot and McGovern was strong all day. The visitors Butter had 25 disposals which was handy to see after being down for the last couple of weeks, Marshall kicked 3 however was tackled hard in the Q4 and was left proppy, King managed two while Hogan …. Hogan….? Up forward for the home side, Graham again rotated through the midfield, Naughton played with heart after receiving a knock to his already heavily strapped knee, Tomahawk booted 4 big ones and Errol played on the wing, ran all day with 26 touches. The visitors Blicavs was spread too thin having the defend and chop out in the ruck, Moore was on Naughton and gave away too many frees, Kemp still learning, Gibcus was a late out and Francis was called up but didn’t get there until Q4. Off the bench the home side had Smith who played half forward and Ryder who starred this week in Ruck and up forward claiming 3 goals. For the opposition young Idun and Rivers played mostly out of defense. The Cuda’s took the points this week with their home ground advantage while the Parasites will be hoping that a couple of their regulars are back. Round 8 (very late) matchup. Bunyips 845 def by Monarchs 1246 Well, what can anyone say about this match? Getting demolished by 400 points leads to a very short and sharp round up. Having 2 1/2 midfielders play and all score well under their averages vs The visiting sides Captain Jack Macrae 144 was about all they needed. Only one of the visitors cracked the tonne, whilst the rest of their team scored either above their average or just over it. A great team effort by @Tylo and his boys. Only shining light is ROB vs Jarman Impey with ROB getting another point for the Big Tap BOG - Macrae (144) Dale - 103 Keays - 100
Bunyips 1073 vs Armadillos 1299 Another game at home and another missed opportunity! Most of the team turned up to play but we were still short up forward. The visitors heard that ROB was out and they were so confident in the win, they put the leagues best ruck (Gawn) on the interchange! The arrogance of @insider to even contemplate such a move! Both teams were fairly evenly matched in Defence 338(h) vs 341(a) and in the Mids 372(h) vs 342(a) but it was the missing players up forward and a shit 17 from Macrae cost us.
