Carnamah Cormorants 1,243 def Hughenden Prairie Dogs 959 In another home game where Hughenden were hoping to win, it turned into another example of a visiting team knowing their game plan against an inept group of players pretending to play football. Take nothing away from the Cormorants, Darcy (145) was back to his brilliant best tapping the ball at will against an out of form Ratugolea (43) providing Day (107) and Ashcroft (148) first use of the ball and it wasn’t wasted with Macdonald (85) and Weddle (75) providing plenty of headaches for the Hughenden defence with only IQ (108) showing any resistance. Hughenden’s woes continued with JVR not making the field and Logue (17) twisting the wrong way in the first quarter, resulting in torn ACL and a 12 month break from football. The P Dogs were not helped when Cox (65) rolled an ankle and will also need a week off. Hughenden had little to cheer about with a second rate team never troubling the Carnamah consistency. There will be a lot of soul searching for Hughenden this week and for players to play as another home game is not looking good against a rampaging Staghorn Flat Bulls. The Cormorants improving form continues through enthusiasm of youth and they will trouble a few teams as the final 8 settles and Banchang who are tenuously holding on to 8th will need to be on their game when the Cormorants visit next week. Round 16 Match Report (sorry for the lateness) The Barracuda's finish on 1,183/15 78.9 defeat the Blowflys @Mick on 1,101/15 73.4 Well, it’s seems like the longest break ever. The last time these two powerhouse teams met on this ground in perfect conditions the score board caught on fire in a nail biter of a match. Today, however a tropical cyclone watch has been issued as low intensifies over waters in the Gulf of Carpentaria. It makes for an interesting match, that’s for sure. In defence, Tuohy lead by example with 28 disposals, Llody on the one flank had 20 and Weitering on the other and had plenty of his own as well, they kept McDonald and Perkins quiet. The opposition Dunkley had 20 touches and was influential before he was subbed out at the final change to ice his calf. The home team’s new recruit Grundy makes his debut up against Goldy, clash of the titans. This was like smashing two impenetrable rocks against each other and no one gave in. Grundy kicked a goal while resting in the forward line and had 16 hit outs. Goldy had 20 hit outs however was sharked plenty of times. In the middle of the ground, if you could call it that with the rain, The Bont 27 disposals and a goal, Corn Boy Cripps 28 disposals and Jarrod flavoured Berry with 16 disposals and a goal all getting around it. The opposition was left red faced when they forgot Kelly was a late out and Nic Hind didn’t get the telex. The Sloane Ranger did his best with a man short and Hunter and Boak need another week’s rest. Up forward it was as tough as you can get it, the oppositions defence is elite, Dacios just burns you, Vlastuin and Witherden kept AstroNaught 2 goals and Tomahawk 2 goals quiet. Gulden was sublime out there in the harsh conditions with 28 disposals. What a show was on display with Nick and Errol. Off the bench, they froze their asses off, McLean and Graham for the home side and Steele and Ross for the opposition. It was a low scoring slug fest out there today, with really luck and a big cyclone wind to assist the home side to victory. BOG – Daicos (KB), Tuohy (GEB) & Gulden (GEB)
Round 17 Blanchetown Bunyips 1288 def Eden Whalers 1122 The Bunyips had the absolute pleasure of hosting @HOLKY and his men from Eden. It was a friendly match that was played in the true spirit of ORFFU. It was a close battle where nobody really stood out with a great performance, rather, two teams who were evenly matched in all lines. So close that both rucks ended up on 107 points! What are the chances? Ex Bunyip Scott Pendlebury (86) was rewarded on the road with a sell out game with many Edenites travelling to Blanchetown to witness his milestone match in recording the most possessions in AFL history. As an ex Bunyip who was traded on good terms, even the locals were cheering every touch he racked up. The Whalers had a good overall team score of 1122 which would have beaten at least 4 other ORFFU teams proving that they are not finished with 2023 just yet!. Atkins, Walsh, J Daicos and Hardwick were all good for the homeside whilst Horne-Francis (36) continued his up and down season (if only @Mick didn't pick N Daicos). BOG - Atkins 3 Walsh 2 Daicos 1 Big Tap - Draw with ROB and Briggs both getting 1 point.
Update from The Stadium, Banchang and the boys from Carnamah have made their intentions known..getting off to a flying start with Florent, 1st up, coming off a half back flank, getting a couple of snags and scoring 98 while Banchang were still in the sheds, and then 1st yr sensation Ashcroft, following up from his last 2 tons, with another fine display, and another102 jumped in the bag... Banchang threw 4 players out there to stop the rot, but to no avail...and Carnamah lead Banchang 3/247 to 4/234 at the break. @ron swanson
@YAD69 In the ancient town of Nuytsland, nestled between towering mountains and vast forests, two opposing clans clashed with a ferocity unmatched by any other. On one side, the Nuytsland Vikings, a fierce and battle-hardened group, known for their relentless pursuit of victory. On the other side, the Groote Eylandt Barracudas, a cunning and agile clan, skilled in the art of surprise attacks. The stage was set in the heart of Nuytsland, within a desolate graveyard. The air was thick with an eerie silence, as if the spirits of the fallen were anticipating the impending clash. The moon's pale light cast long shadows, enhancing the tension that hung in the atmosphere. Leading the Nuytsland Vikings was their valiant chieftain, English, a towering figure with a braided beard that reached his chest. His piercing blue eyes, filled with the fire of determination, gazed upon his warriors, ready to lead them into the fray. The Barracudas, under the command of their cunning leader, Bontempelli, prepared for the onslaught. Bontempelli, known as "The Bont," possessed an uncanny ability to outwit his adversaries. His quicksilver movements and intelligent tactics made him a formidable adversary. The clash began with a thunderous roar, as the Vikings charged forward with unyielding resolve. Young and Taylor, renowned for their strength and aggression, tore through the Barracudas' defense. Their war cries echoed through the night, mingling with the metallic clash of swords and the agonized screams of the wounded. Petracca, the Nuytsland Viking's berserker, fought with reckless abandon. His eyes glazed with a primal fury as he laid waste to his opponents. The Barracudas tried to counter, but their every move was anticipated by Duncan, a seasoned warrior with an unmatched instinct for battle. The Barracudas, known for their swift and precise strikes, unleashed their own brand of havoc. Cripps, a nimble assassin, glided through the chaos, striking with lethal precision. Gulden, a master of deception, used his cunning to outmaneuver his foes, delivering fatal blows when they least expected it. As the clash intensified, blood stained the earth, creating a gruesome tableau of violence. Limbs were severed, and the ground became littered with the fallen. The once serene graveyard transformed into a horrific battleground, haunted by the anguished cries of the wounded. Despite their valiant efforts, the Barracudas found themselves overwhelmed by the sheer brutality and relentless assault of the Vikings. Petracca's raw power and English's unwavering leadership crushed any hope of victory for the Barracudas. In the end, the Nuytsland Vikings emerged triumphant, their victory marked by the sea of fallen Barracudas. The moon, now high in the sky, illuminated the scene, casting an eerie glow upon the fallen warriors. The once-proud Barracudas had met their demise at the hands of the indomitable Vikings. As dawn broke, Nuytsland stood in silence, mourning the fallen on both sides. The clash had taken a toll on the town, leaving scars that would never truly heal. The tale of the Nuytsland Vikings and the Groote Eylandt Barracudas would be etched into the annals of history, a testament to the ruthless nature of war and the unyielding spirit of those who fought. Progress score from The Stadium and the local Barcrawlers have roared back to life and lead the Cormorants 13/979 to 9/651. After failing to halt the opposition scoring in the opening stanza, the locals were able to lift their game and restrict Carnamah to 6/404 in this stanza with only Smith 97, posting a reasonable score. Meanwhile Adams 144, for the locals, had his best game ever and was ably supported by Dawson 126, our current B/ F leader, while the improving Farrell 103, held the defence together. The result will come down to whether Banchang, with L D-U, Duggan and a lead of 328, can hold off Rioli, Wardlaw, Day, Tucker, McDonald and Weddle, to claim the 4 pts. @ron swanson
The rampaging Bulls are trampling all over a lack lustre Hughenden outfit and it's just a matter of how big the margin blows out by....... HPD 613/10 - 61.3 SFB 861/10 - 86.1 @tyze1
@insider , the unbeaten run against Southern Cross continues to 10! A couple of low scores will stop you from setting an ORFFU high score record, however, the largest winning margin is in your sights. Some may even say I've played you back into form In saying that, there has definitely been some encouraging signs so far from a couple of the young Sandgropers, when you take Mitchell's donut into account.
Fulltime at The Stadium and Banchang has held on against Carnamah 1196-1154. Coming into the final period with a lead of 328, Dawson 126 and Duggan 88 had to fight to secure the win over the fast finishing Cormorants who had Day 120 and McDonald 105 combining well to reduce the lead early on, but were unfortunate to lose Wardlaw to a hammy, but that didn't deter Rioli with 129, who had one of his better games coming off defence. BOG: 3: Adams BB 144 2: Davies - Uniacke BB 129 (winning team) 1: Rioli CC 129 BIG TAP: Darcy CC def Finlayson BB 89-47 Next round sees Banchang at home to Groote Eyelandt and Carnamah at home to Serengeti @ron swanson
Bunyips 1324* Def Parasites 1200 What a crazy week!. Ex Bunyip Chayce Jones (103) snuck onto the field to play for his own side. The coaching staff were too concerned about what was happening in other areas of the field and totally missed Chayce racking up the points. Luckily Luke Pedlar (40) was not too far away picking flowers behind the goal posts and enjoyed the spectacle. JHF took the opportunity to fuck off before the game as he counted there were 15 players warming up and thought he could sneak off to the Blanchetown pub. He has subsequently been fined by the club for his infraction. The Parasites were feared coming into this match with some great scores this year and sitting high on the ladder, but it was the Bunyips that turned up to play footy. Dan Houston (176) was everywhere in Defence and aptly supported by Tom Atkins (117) whilst Josh Daicos (133) was dominant in the guts. Darcy Moore (128) was at his intercepting best and was best on ground for the visitors. The ruck battle between ROB (88) and Rowan Marshall (58) was a dour affair with both players scoring well below their averages as they negated each other all day. Jack Silvagni (141) was fantastic kicking 4 goals and 19 touches in his highest score ever! The Bunyips are on the road this week off to Korumburra to take on @Mick and his Blowflys whilst @ddsaints is back at home taking on @bryzza 's Vikings. BOG - Houston Silvagni J Daicos Big Tap - ROB
Full time at Eden Sporting Complex and whilst it is another loss, it was a close game. The new players fitting into the side well, Jack Payne leading them with 83 from the bench. Meanwhile, in the ruck Briggs followed last week's draw with a close loss, losing by 1 point. Ellis and Amon tied for best for the Whalers whilst Josh Kelly got the 3, 1 point ahead. Serengeti keep their momentum going towards finals and remain in top 4. BAFFU: Kelly 3, Viney 2, Ellis/Amon 1 Giant Tap: Lycett 80 def Briggs 79
The Barracuda's finish on 1,374/15 91.6 defeat the Monarchs on 1,180/15 78.7 After getting a lesson in football from the Vikings at the Graveyard it was nice to be back on home turf. For the visiting team our Islander brothers it’s been a tough year so far, however the travelling Monarchs had a win last week and are looking to capitalise on it. In defence, the home was missing Lloydy and Tuohy, however that meant cult favourite Lachlan Jones gets a gig as well as ever reliable Aidan Corr who lead the way with 27 disposals keeping Cotchin quiet. McGovern and Weitering tagged Himmelberg and last minute Amartey in check, while Ainsworth was solid for the visitors. With Stan-ley back the home side felt good with the big man busting out 28 hitouts, unfortunately for the visitors Hickey didn’t pass the muster so Ben Long came in to chop it out and well, got smashed. Off the bench, Jacky Graham and McLean where very solid for the home team, rotating well on the ball and in the forward line. The visitors had Mckenna and Ford, they did well when they got the hands on the pig skin. The centre square was the Bont show, muscling his way through all that stood in his way, cherry picked and bagged 2 goals for measure. Corn Boy Cripps and Smith steadied the game on each side of the centre circle while Jarrod flavoured Berry spent a lot of time on the bench. Tom Green for the visitors was a late out over hamstring concerns so Lipinski slots in however was under done. Nash was the shining light for the away team with 32 disposals, with Swallow and Macrae did well under the tough Bont conditions. Up forward for the home side Tomahawk was on fire smashing through 5 big ones, Oh Errol starred with 30 disposals, AstroNaught started deep in the forward line, bagged 3, and the Magnificent Zorko did lots of good things on the Paddock, however he was tagged by Ed Richards who was on fire and really tried to keep a lid on his opponents scoring. Impey looked good even ran up and scored a goal from out of nowhere and Redman and O’conner for the visitors where out done by the home teams twin towers. A greatly improved performance by for the home side, starting to string the plays together. The Monarchs @Tylo are well down on past years performances with not too many wanting to lead the garrison.
