Breaking - Melbourne premiership star Angus Brayshaw has been forced into an early AFL retirement after repeated head injuries. How should this news be handled...........presently in Staghorn Flat's team...
https://www.afl.com.au/news/1078333...shaw-retires-after-long-history-of-concussion Brave to play the game, braver decision to walk away. Exits the Bulls with 68 games at an average of 84.7ppg all the best to Angus @JPK mid draft will leave to you as to what happens here
I really want to be compassionate, but I think we have enough precedence and a large enough player list. You'll just have to hold him until the MSD, and then delist him and pick up someone new. Basically, my thinking is this (using the term "you" as a generic term for any coach, not specifically Tyze): If the news broke just before the draft, you would have delisted him. If the news broke just after the draft was complete, you'd have to hold onto him until the MSD anyway. If it was a star player who got a season ending injury (Bailey Smith for example) then you'd just have to find a way to cover for him. If it was a fringe / backup player who got a season ending injury, you would have dropped him before the draft or have had to carry him through to the MSD all the same. If it was someone you had high hopes for but find they didn't get picked at all then you'd just carry them through to the MSD and make a call then. So while the kind and compassionate thing to do would be to allow for Angus Brayshaw to be dropped and replaced at the end of this PSD, the logical thing is to carry him through until the next normal opportunity to delist a player. If there's a more compassionate coach than me who is willing to trade for him to help you out, then that's obviously open as an option, as long as no-one exceeds 28 players on their list. No-one likes seeing players injured, but that's professional sport (and even amateur sport too).
Tough call (in the real life stuff). @JPK call seems fair to me. You've gotta feel for Brayshaw + @tyze1. You'd have to think we're only going to see more of this as they get stricter and stricter around concussions and the ramifications for all involved. I'm still amazed that they gave the green light for Paddy McCartin to play again!
Didn’t a similar thing happen to me with heath scotland? from memory I had to wait….could be wrong though. It was a long time ago (pre plandemic)
Looks like Exmouth @eagle_eyed will be missing Tarryn Thomas too - North have sacked him after his 18-game suspension. https://www.afl.com.au/news/1077428/thomas-hit-with-18-match-suspension-for-inappropriate-behaviour
Don't really know enough to comment, but was expecting to be without him this year after the last set of charges. I guess I’ll have to decide if I keep him in the hope he’s picked up next year. If not, then it’s off to the kerb.
@JPK Wanted to check regarding the auto pick if needed. @tyze1 has been on the clock six hours with two left; That would be midnight AEDST. We normally pause the need to pick between midnight & 8am AEDST; with the Brayshaw news does Tyze autopick at 8:02 am, or is grace allowed given we’re moving at a reasonable pace?
In breaking news, Exmouth have taken a tough stance with Thomas and advised that whilst he would remain on the list on probationary terms for the next 12 months, he would not be able to train or associate with players from the club and as such will be banished to train with the free agents. During this probationary period, Thomas must not attend the club and due to the nature of the issue, his name will also be removed from the team list on the club website whilst we continue our process. The club anticipates they will release another statement later in the year, post a full review. * player is not available to other clubs during probationary period
