Well written , poorly coached this week. These early games 4:30pm start on a Friday have unsettled me
Rnd 2 Pakenham Parasites 1444 def Korumburra Blowflys 1099 Pakenhams first home game of the new season and the hometown fans weren’t disappointed. Welcoming our old friends and foes the formidable Blowflys was never going to be easy, the competition is always fierce between the two rival clubs, so for the game to turn out like it did was a pleasant surprise. Overall a pretty comfortable win for the Parasites with a number of good efforts the coaches were happy with Butters 175 led the way with Setterfield 126, KING 110, Owens 108, Big Row 106, and Idun 102 all raising the bat, some solid 90’s from Noah 98, JJ 98 against old club and Blicavs 93 also pleased the coaches. Unfortunately Sidebum 26 has produced 2 low weeks in a row and the selection committee will need to make some decisions soon. The aging Gaff and Bum look to be in trouble. Time will tell For the Blowflys unfortunately they couldn’t get a great deal going with below avg scores from most. Daicos, Fyfe, Vlastuin, Boak, Bonner all failed to fire and it was costly in the end. On the brighter side Steele 120 and Xerri 108 both battled hard and did all they could. Xerris battle with Row was one of the exciting matchups for the day, going down to the last seconds. To much to overcome for the Blowflys. Pakenham comfortable winners Giant tap: Xerri 108 def Big Row 106 BOG: 3. Butters 175, 2. Setterfield 126, 1. Steele 120
Round 2 Blanchetown 986 Def by King Island 1128 The Bunyips hosted the vising Monarchs in their first home game of the season and it was a pretty poor showing from the homeside. The visitors definitely came to play with most of their players scoring well over their yearly average. On the other side, most of the Yips got the Yips and a few key players (Walsh, JHF, Atkins) were unavailable and not helping. Tom Green (KIM) led all players with a very handy 137 whilst ROB continued his good form to win the round Big Tap by 113 points. BOG - Green (3) O'Brien (2) Cameron (1) Big Tap O'Brien Next week sees the Bunyips staying at home looking to improve their season whilst the Monarchs stay on the road and head off to Nuytsland. @Tylo
Horsham Huskies 1183 defeated Carnamah Cormorants 911 The first home game of the season for the Huskies and they were keen to back up their solid performance against the premiership favourites in round 1. The Huskies were hit hard by the bye, having to utilise their back up defenders and play others OOP with Andrews, McGovern, Bailey and Starcevich missing. The Cormorants were missing Ashcroft, but curiously only travelled with 12 players to Horsham. (Can't blame them really!) The Huskies were lead by their young midfielders and forwards with Papley (155), Drew (144), Flanders (102), Holmes (95) and Roberts (94). But it was the makeshift defenders that were the stars. Henry (86), 'controversial ' trade in McVee (82) and Ross OOP (88) that showed that the Huskies have far more depth this season. For the Cormorants, Riloi (103), Wardlaw (102) and Weddle (91) were excellent, but with no ruck and no interchange and 5 players scoring in the 60's, the result was always likely to go one way. Big Tap Reeves (HH) 49 defeated Hustwaite (CC) 0 Votes 3 - T Papley (HH) 2 - W Drew (HH) 1 - D Rioli (CC) Next up, the Huskies travel Cow Bay and Carnamah host Christmas Island.
Round 2 - Ararat Armadillos vs Bueng Kan River Rats The Rats came to Ararat which had locals scratching their heads being they struggle with more than 2 syllables and any sort of rhyming. The match was more straightforward however, with Bueng Kan tonning with no less than 7 players. Farrell (101), ex-Dillo Collins (102), Duggan (110), Davies-Uniacke (105), Langdon (108), Neal-Bullen (109) and late change Parfitt (102) all took the contest to the locals. Unfortunately, when Mason overrated Wood knocks himself out for a score of 8, you're always going to be up against it. The home side, buoyed by the motivational speech after last week's 7th highest score ever, did four better and knocked up the 3rd highest score ever. Freo players continue to ease the urine, with Jackson (178) dominating, Ryan (127) doing Ryan things, and Brayshaw (123) roaring home from an ordinary first 3 quarters. Breakout candidate Tom Powell (129) continued his fine start to the season, as did the recycled Lachie Bramble (84) who is covering well for Luke McDonald in the backline while he finds some form. Unfortunately the star offseason recruit Connor MacDonald (56) may need to join his almost-namesake in the magoos, as he cost the Dillos the highest score in FU history. Final Result: AA 1626 def BKR 1262
Round 2 Cow Bay 1,114 def Hughenden 869 The Cow Bay Crocs dominated the field with a commanding performance against Hughenden, securing a 245 point victory in Round 2. For the Crocs, McGrath held the defensive 4 together and put together a score of 95. Sheezel and Clark also stood out in defense, contributing 113 and 119 points respectively, showcasing their ability to stop the opposition's attacks. In the midfield, Worpel and Taranto led the way scoring 94 and 100 points respectively, while Wilkie and Bolton provided fresh legs from the interchange bench and added 86 points each. Among the forwards, Rankine showcased his attacking flair with an impressive 81, while Henry and Dempsey provided valuable support with scores of 60 and 59 points respectively. For the P.Dawgs, Yeo was the standout performer in the midfield and amassed 110 points. James Jordon also provided decent support and put together an 88 point effort. JVR shone brightly in the forward line with a 92 point effort while DBJ and Langford added crucial points with scores of 79 and 77 respectively. BAFFU 3 Clark, COW, 119 2 Sheezel, COW, 113 1 Yeo, HPD, 110 Big Tap Williams (40) def Chol (30) Next week Cow Bay hosts Horsham and Hughenden hosts Bueng Kan. @Batfink
Apologies for the delayed match report this week @YAD69. Easter week working in a church will do that, but here it is The Serengeti faithful rolled down to The Crater buoyed by a round 1 win over fellow finals aspirant in the Parasites and with a fit ruckmen joining the squad instead of one legged Cam Mackenzie, expectations were high against the visiting Barracudas. Both teams were well depleted due to annoying fixture quirks so this was going to be a great test of the depth in each list. Serengeti team management seemed to have forgotten to pass this message on to the Buffaloes senior players and assumed they would just know they needed to step up and lead from the front with so many youngsters in the team. Captain Danger (73), Josh Kelly (78) & Jeremy Cameron (57) were all a disappointment but none moreso than Steven May (12) who not only put in an average performance while on the field, but also left at half time because it was all getting just a bit too hard. The Barracudas on the other hand were led brilliantly by the ever reliable Bont (136), Errol (149) carved the Buffaloes up all day long, McGovern (144) repelled any attempt at a Serengeti attack and Tom hawkins (113) put the icing on the cake, even seen mocking Jeremy Cameron at one point telling him who the no. 1 forward is on the ground. Despite having their own expected list of passengers from a compromised team, there was enough talent that performed to get the Barracudas over the line in an impressive win. Serengeti were left to lick their wounds and try to regather ahead of the upcoming travel to exotic Staghorn Flat. Although the trip is expected to be with a further depleted squad, team management were so upset with Steven May's efforts that they have banished him from the team for a week and he won't be available for selection until at least round 4.
