The new season of the ORFFW is just around the corner! Can all coaches who are going around again please jump on this thread and nominate your teams.

If everyone can please confirm by 4th August so that we can commence any rule change discussions and look to recruit any new coaches for any vacancies that may occur.

Pre season draft / delisting dates to be confirmed once we have the coaches back on board

Questions for the committee - are we retaining the following settings for 2023?
    - squad size of 22, 14 keepers followed by 8 picks per team via the preseason draft?
    - PSD to be 5 rounds live 5 minute picks then non live round 6 and non live combined rounds 7&8 with a longer time limit?
    - supp draft prior to rolling round 1 lockout
    - 8 rounds then 2 weeks of finals (top 4) but not necessarily 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 if some combo of finals teams haven’t played each other in home and away.

And are there any other changes planned either for 2023 or 2024, other than a possible extended fixture if AFLW season 2024 is 11 or more rounds ?

    Cheers

Firstly, an official welcome to @Chloe who takes over the Junee Jets and to @YAD69 who takes the reigns of the Eastern Park Demons. Hope you both enjoy the league!

Subject to the TS site being updated in the week of August 14-18 (or earlier, I am working through this, should hopefully have it sorted over the weekend) the following dates are locked in

    - By Wednesday 23rd August 12 noon Melb time - ORFFW delists required to reduce squads to a maximum of 14 players (as per keeper league rules from last year)

    - Please note that currently the player positions listed are in some cases missing and incorrect, the new AFL endorsed AFLW Fantasy positions will apply to your squad and all Free Agents.

    - delists to be posted on a separate thread (keep your eyes open for this)
    http://tooserious.net/forum/threads/2023-orffw-delistings.91451/

Saturday 26th August 10am Melb time – ORFFW Preseason draft will commence (5 min limit to take selections)
    - 8 players per team minimum to be added taking squads to 22 players for season 2023
    - to be held here on TS as per last years draft

A draft thread in the week prior will be commenced until then coaches can ask any delist or draft related questions either here or in the delists thread or by pm if you prefer.

Cheers, a couple of proposed suggestions for the committee to consider prior to issuing the 2023 draft order

Inactive player compensation picks - currently held as end of 4th round selections, propose holding these as end of 2nd round selections (ie 2 rounds earlier) when the quality of available players are reasonably high

New Coach equalisation picks - last year I/we issued 2 * end of 3rd round selections to the Wallabies who finished rock bottom the season prior and were under new management. I would suggest the following to be applied at the committee's discretion

Any new coach inheriting a bottom 2 side (ie 11/12) - receive 2 * end of 3rd round equalisation selections (and lose their 7th and 8th round selections) and further picks may be made available in their second season if their is no noticeable first year improvement
    - ie YAD (EPD) would receive picks 37 and 38 (before factoring in inactive player compensation)

Any new coach inheriting a bottom 4 side (ie 9/10) - receive 2 * end of 4th round equalisation selections (and lose their 7th and 8th round selections) and further picks may be made available in their second season if their is no noticeable first year improvement
    - ie Chloe (JET) would receive picks 49 and 50 (before factoring in inactive player compensation or bottom 2 equalisation selections)

In response to TTH's suggestions the committee has agreed to the following:
Inactive player selections to remain at the end of Round 4
New coach equalisation picks to be adopted as suggested. Solid idea and gives some incentive to incoming coaches who are inheriting struggling sides

Draft thread will include the new equalisation picks and retain inactive players at end of Round 4.

What's the go with positions? Have they been updated? Or do I need to be cross refing against the AFLW fantasy site?

I was hoping to see some comms from the powers that be which after handing over is no longer me.

As far as I know it is now up to date, but as it is a manual process it is still likely that after deciding your cuts a 15 minute check against AFLW fantasy is the wisest policy.

And be warned AFLW fantasy does has some crazy positions !

Hey everyone - yes, the positions have been updated and are now all correct in line with AFLW Fantasy - but given it was a long manual process a spot check of your teams would be appreciated.

Your squads should all be aligned, and as TTH says above beware there have been quite a few changes, and some of them have been some real head scratchers.

Please make sure you get your delistings in by Wednesday 23rd noon EST.... And once you have made your cuts, please remember to physically remove them from your squads.
