It's possibly the narrow currency people are requiring.. In a auction you get to set a reserve, you don't typically state how you would like to be paid in such a narrow fashion that you block out 80% of the market. I've been legitimately unable to bid on most listed, that feels like an error in approach if I'me not the only one

You're right though, in that a broader reserve criteria might attract greater interest and therefore multiple bidders. I guess its also somewhat presumptuous that at this time of year, we have an 18 coach audience. I'm still a fan of the auction method, though admit my technique might need refinement. I get the feeling a lot of us are sitting tight waiting for trades/delists etc, personally I'm not planning on doing much until the positions get announced as that affects the balance of my side more than any other outside factor. Obvious bargains or desirable players offered would be jumped on if I could though
An auction that will close at 7 pm AEST on Friday the second of October 2015. I will confirm if the reserve is met and then there will be 24 hours from that declaration. The Cows put up for auction ]Nathaniel Fyfe (Freemantle Dockers)a midfielder who might have M/F status in 2016 (there are no guarantees or warranties as to SC status in 2016 and beyond). Nat is arguably among the better players in the AFL and may well win the Charles Brownlow Medal this year. An opportunity such as this is rare in a keeper league and I would encourage you to consider making a bid. I will not present statistics or analysis as I assume you are familiar with the player.

Woot, some excitement! Well done Graham, off to check my stocks to see how a deal can be stacked

Before this season, he only played less than 20 games in a season once (19 in 2011) since Hawthorn beat Geelong in the 2008 grand final. He ranked in the top 20 defenders in the whole AFL for 2015. In return, I'm looking for a 1st 15 player aged 24-25 in any position, except forward. Or a high draft pick. or both. Not sure how long this will run for. Lets see how it goes. <div> Im going to pull this auction. If anyone wants Mackie, please enquire privately. He is still available.

Classic!!! I will bid Tom Liberatore, Jordan Murdoch and Pick 11. I'm actually really interested to see a) What gets bid and b) If you will pull the trigger Graeme. At any rate, we will find out who is on TS in the next week haha
What particularly are you after Graeme? Beyond a fair deal. I'll watch with interest as it is always intriguing to see what payment of multiple players/draft picks is deemed to be fair for a single player the likes of Fyfe. The ever-present debate of 'does one keep 2-3 pretty good players/two good players and a decent draft pick or do you go all in on a superstar' is always something that has arguments that go for and against.
Chris, I said in the Trade thread 'I am always interested in a deal so please feel free to contact me with a trade that will excite me.' I decided to put Nat up for auction in the hope that he would excite people enough that they would be creative and present a deal I would find interesting / compelling enough to make me (in CR's words) 'pull the trigger.' Chief, being Chief has put forward an offer that is pretty interesting (albeit a little on the light side IMO) but it is there and is an initial working offer at least. I can see how that deal could work for me and I see how it would work for CR. However, I do not want to overly improve an opponent's (and a very worth opponent) squad. Facing Danger and his mates is hard enough without Fyfe being in the there as well. A Rotarian like my Nuffer mate understands the concept of a deal that works for both parties. I want a deal that strengthens the Cow's weaker areas - and they are clear by looking at our squad - but not at the cost of making a premiership virtually unwinnable. Hence, a team in the lower part of the table might be better able to offer a deal that meets my criteria. If other coaches cannot see how this could work for them that's fine by me. I'll happily hold on to one of the few current, genuine superstars. PS - hang the expense, we have organised a couple of hours of marketing this evening live from the Domain Stadium. Nat will strut his stuff so you can see the opportunity.

And most likely not the usual trade addict.

OK so Chris was right, me who is not a big trader and I don't think as ever placed a bid in an auction is going to do so, so here goes: Darcy Lang - 19 year old Geelong midfielder - played 20 games this year which is a really good effort for a 19 year old. Averaged 60. Kicked 14 goals up forward too so is a chance to be a mid and a forward. Will be getting more playing time and games with other teammates retiring now or at the end of next year. George Horlin Smith - 23 yo Geelong midfielder - 7 games this year, 54 average. In 5 games where he wasn't sub he averaged 71. Will be getting more time at Geelong after teammates have retired and are getting old. Oh yeah and my number 2 pick in the PSD.

I'll now bid: Jeremy Cameron (GWS) or Taylor Walker (Ade) - both forwards & Lyndon Dunn (Mel) or Andrew Mackie (Gee) - both defenders & Mason Cox (Col) - Ruck & 2016 PSD pick 10 1 forward,1 defender, 1 ruck and pick 10. I am not looking for 'average midfielders' when we already have seven or eight very good midfielders (depending on whether Mitch Robinson is F/M or M). Currently my M7 or M8 is Nic Graham (Carlton) who averaged 80 in 2015. After Mick Malthouse departed and Nic was given a real chance his last three SC scores before injury were 101 (Port Adelaide), 103 (Gold Coast) and 106 (Doggies). Could I gently suggest, what I am looking to do is to strengthen my team not weaken it. The sort of guys you need to put up (in no particular order) to get Fyfe are some combination of Carlisle, Rampe, Saad, Heeney, Moore, Wright, Caddy, and Duncan. OTY.

The historic SC data on early afl draft picks is pretty depressing, at least in the short term. I would rather have two early second round picks than one early round one pick. I will repeat the reason I am not currently totally enamored with CR's offer. The Chooks would be a monty to keep winning ORFFA if they acquired Fyfe. I have messaged chief and he is aware of my reasoning. That does not mean I will not accept an (improved) offer from him. Have a look at CR's squad and add in Fyfe. To me the outcome is pretty obvious. Every other coach should hope that that that does not happen. Hence, I suggest you'all should give me an incentive to keep the competition even and I should reject CR's offer. A little too much radiation in one of the upcoming sessions and who knows what I might do? OTY as they say on social media.

A little too much radiation in one of the upcoming sessions and who knows what I might do? OTY as they say on social media. Geez, that's a bit of a response for what was meant to be a rather light hearted comment. Two things Graeme - one, the performance of early AFL draft picks is irrelevant when we are talking about trading early ORFFA draft picks. What pick #2 or #10 or whoever does in the AFL is irrelevant - simply because in the ORFFA we might draft the AFL pick #2 or #10 until pick #20 or #30. Last year we had guys like Stef Martin, McGovern, Gleeson all picked in the top 15-20 picks in the ORFFA. They weren't drafted in the AFL because they were already in the league. The choice we have between picking a youngster or a more mature guy who is a free agent makes it more likely we'll get it right with a high ORFFA draft pick. Without looking in detail, I think we've got a good portion of top 5-10 ORFFA picks close to the mark in the past. Second thing - if Chief's bid for Fyfe appears to be the best one, or is one that no other coach here is willing to match or better, then so be it - good luck to Chief (and I mean that genuinely). Saying that other coaches should give you an incentive to not trade Fyfe there is rather odd. I personally would not be putting in a bid for Fyfe - and giving away a decent amount (maybe 2 or 3 players) of talent in the process - just to stop someone else getting him. Ultimately if I was being awful I'd hope that perhaps Chief, or whoever ends up bidding on Fyfe, might overpay a touch and find their depth compromised when the inevitable bevy of injuries and Freo-itis hit. But I'm not up for wishing ill onto people and players so I'd rather hope that some of my young guys would improve enough to help cover Fyfe's influence. But putting in a bid that muddles one's own team up just to stop someone else getting a player - I'm not sure about that.
Very fair comments Chris - many of which I happen to agree with by the way! I am pragmatic, I am trying to generate the best possible offer for Nat. My shareholders would be disappointed in any other approach. To be honest, as CR foreshadowed, I may not accept the best offer presented. He's not a bad player that Nat Fyfe!
To be honest, I'd love to put in a bid for Fyfe. But the thought it would cost me, perhaps someone of the ilk or Rance/Newnes, as well as someone of the ilk of Walters/Shane Edwards tempers my enthusiasm somewhat because I know I haven't got the depth to cover them if they go. Chief's pretty lucky if he does have the depth!
