<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]So what happens if you take Ablett out of your SC team? I did decided to find out. This is what I came up with. I am not fully convinced yet, but not that unhappy with the results either.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]Perhaps there are enough DEF cheapies this year to swing a 4th into the mix. For my SC team's current structure I certainly hope so.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #fcfcfc;]I'm counting Smith/Gibson as DEF keepers, with Newnes/Higgins hopefully good enough to stay onfield all season and not miss out on too many points compared to other DEFs. 4 MID keepers plus a mid-pricer (Bontempelli) with a lot of upside, seems like the best way to splash the Ablett cash around at the moment. Finally 2 RUC keepers and[span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #fcfcfc;]3 FWD keepers plus a fallen premium (Swan). That could amount to 14.5 keepers (optimistically), which I'm happy enough with for now.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]My bye structure is currently 8-11-11 which works OK. After R11, trade out 3 guys with a R12 bye for players with a R11 bye, then after R12 trade out 3 players with a R13 bye, etc. Should only have 8 missing due to byes on any given week, leaving two further slots at risk due to injured/dropped players.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]/Portals/0/Users/222/74/4574/RMT3.JPG
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;][span style='font-size: 14px; background-color: #fcfcfc;]Just to repeat the ground rules for RMT:
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]1. In order to get feedback on your own team, you must first provide feedback on the teams that have been recently posted. This is the golden rule and is what makes this whole thing work.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]2. If you just post your team without giving any feedback, your post will be deleted.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]3. Please refrain from commenting on teams that have been posted by others that have not followed the golden rule.
<p style='color: #444444; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #fcfcfc;]4. Keep it civil. Constructive criticism is fine. But there is a line and please don't cross it.

GWS play the same opening 3 games they did last year, then the Suns (who give up the most points of any team to ruckman).

You take those Mummy points and you PUT THEM IN THE BANK.

Then maybe you blow a trade when you need to, who cares- the dude has propelled you into contention after savaging the competition early.

Well, that's the plan anyways.

Some definite left field picks in there. I'm not seeing value or potential in Gibbs, I think the blues will struggle this year. Lot's of risk in Wines, Swallow and Crouch all improving their output.
I think you should reduce your risk profile by removing some of these for some more reliable contributors.

I'm also tossing up between Sheppard, Laird and KK.

I would take Bartel over Smith, pre season has been huge.

For every mid pricer that takes that step (think of McRae, Wines last year) there are 10 or more than do not.

I like to reduce my risk profile by having only a few of these risks in my team each year.

This year for me its Lachie Neale.

Yep, been on Neale since those huge numbers as well!

JPK, thanks for the comments and support. With my sensible hat back on, the chances of all of the 'low premiums' going off and getting into the 110's are between slim and none and Slim just left town. :) Doing some re-jigging, going to keep a couple of them, but which ones is the question...

Re: Heeney and Anderson, I am also concerned of JS and vesting (even though they are both in and out of my midfield rookie line!)

Cripps and even Van Berlo worth the extra money for their much higher JS.

My D6 is now Suckling.

Absolute bucketload to spend on defence, but man is it nice to not have anyone cheaper than him staring back at me from on the field!

That is the conclusion I came to as well. I'm going to start him, bask in the early glow and then if he gets hurt or suspended, out he goes.

has anybody else noticed Jack Sinclair? limited game time (39%) against Don's got the pill 8 times, 69% game time, 16 possies, 9 contested against Hawks. Might be worth a look...

I think the following is a better look:

D: Simpson, Burgoyne, Newnes, Higgins, Dalgliesh, Hambling Goddard, Saad
M: Pendles, J Selwood, Parker, Wines, A Swallow, Cockatoo, Heeney, Boekhorst, Anderson, E-Y, Lambert
R: Mummy, Nic Nat, Cox
F:Gray, D Martin, Bartel, Westhoff, Clark, Karnesis, Hogan, Lonie

You wouldn't start with NN for the same reason you said you wouldn't start with Mummy - high risk of losing games. Plus his scoring isn't as much of a lock as Mummy and its reported his pre-season has been light. Not for me, and same with Mummy although I understand why people would take on Mummy's injury risk.

Walesy, backs are terrible but I got a little burnt last year by not having a roughly even spread of rookies to upgrade over different positions. Plus if you don't get the mid-pricer right you'll be using a trade there anyway without the money gain.

The Hoff selection could be an absolute masterstroke with Hinkley keen to let him off the leash and work through the midfield/wing/half-back more this season!!!

Not sure how he stacks up when all their injuries return, but considering that state, he's probably done enough to get a round 1 call up.

Dunno if you'd call Suckling a mid pricer :D But I do get your logic.

That said, if there's a backline rookie that I simply must bring in to get onto the field, I have no problem in trading a mid/forward and moving one of my premium backs temporarily into the midfield.

This preseason, I have not been tempted to put Ablett in my team at all. The guy is a gun, and I'll probably be chasing tail all year trying to get him in.

Here is my current lineup ...

DEFENDERS
1. Simpson, K 2. Newnes, J 3. Higgins, S 4. Ibbotson, G 5. Maynard, B 6. Saad, A 23. Lever, J 24. Hamling, J

MIDFIELDERS
7. Pendlebury, S 8. Selwood, J 9. Treloar, A 10. Dangerfield, P 11. Griffen, R 12. Bontempelli, M 13. Brayshaw, A 14. Cockatoo, N 25. Anderson, J 26. Heeney, I 27. Krakouer, N

RUCKS
15. Jacobs, S 16. Goldstein, T 28. Read, T

FORWARDS
17. Deledio, B 18. Goddard, B 19. Swan, D 20. Salem, C 21. Clark, M, 22. Hogan, J 29. Steele, J 30. Lonie, J

Tried to go for Value in the mids with danger/griff.
Otherwise, Ive tried to only go for top 6 mids/fwds. Backs is anyones guess. Not sure there will be a consistent high scorer other than Malsexi & Simpson. I'm thinking a lot of sideways action in defence to get on the streaks this year.
Set and forget rucks is the only way to go (until they get injured!).
Haven't really seen much of the NAB challenge yet. Will have a look at all the rookie scores when they get published later on.
