Crew what about Bolton? I would have thought Bolton to defence, Mattner freed up across half back, Grundy up forward, Goodes to the middle and ROK floating half. Of these Bolton would be the one to get on if he can recapture past form, and Goodes would be the other logical choice.
Ah...done a bit more research...Bolton's not had a preseason. Maybe an interesting POD downgrade if he gets fit in the mid to early rounds.
i would have thought there are others that could fill that spot in defense. the reward of having Goodes and ROK in free moving roles is too great to ignore... but we will just have to wait and see what they do. I have squeezed ROK back into my side now, but cant wait to see them play next week, and more importantly the week after. And will also be good to get info from Sean, or whoever else goes to the games.
forward actually. but I swung Mzungu into the mid to be able to fit him in the forward line, so doesnt make much diff. I had to downgrade Judd to Jack to be able to do it too... which may be a mistake. lost Gaff as well. but will re-assess a hundred times before the season starts probably. as i said last comment: "cant wait to see them play next week, and more importantly the week after. And will also be good to get info from Sean, or whoever else goes to the games."
Makes sense mate, and having Mzungu in the mids as opposed to the forwards might not be a bad move depending on your current makeup of forwards and mids given the multibye in round 6 (seems to be hurting the forward line more than the mids - might have one prem in the mids from freo/hawks/cats but potentially 3 in the forwards) so avoiding having another freo/hawks/cats player in the forwards works nicely. Heres hoping we get to see Longmires' plan for the swans big names.
Mzungu mid is precisely because of R6. Fact is if he were in a midfield with 2 premiums, he'd be very close to M4
Noticed ROK isn't playing this week - though Goodes is ... (though wouldn't be surprised to see him sub off both games. Also no Mumford or Jesse White - so still may remain a mystery up front for a bit longer yet...
I noticed that as well, Sean. Bit of a nuisance, but with the Swans as good as guarenteed to progress to the next round of the Nab Cup, we should get a chance to see their set up in a game that somewhat resembles AFL in a fortnights time.
Don't count your chickens too early spud! Sydney usually don't care about the NAB and so I could see GC pinching it! Worth a punt I reckon.
For my starting team, yes jb that is exactly my policy. I learnt a number of things about SC from last year's effort - including that while I started Goodwin and Harvey last year and while Boomer did well, Goodwin faded quite a bit in 2010.
I don't think the no fossil rule should be a blanket statement. Players like Boomer, and I think ROK, can still rack them up late in their careers. I think at times its more the KPPs that suffer from being a fossil. It seems the contrast in the ruck though, that the "fossils" shine once past 30 years of age. That chart Walesy chucked up a while ago illustrated this perfectly. Picking a fossil is a risk, but no more so than an untried rookie, or a potential mid-pricer.
Blanket rules kill you in supercoach full stop. Thats like saying I'm running this with the blikers on and only looking straight ahead. Yes agree Boomer was more the exception last season as I was burnt by a few but the same stucture year before was a positive one.
In my analysis the premium list is littered with players aged 27 and thereabouts, and the list of players who were premiums but now aren't (drop offs) are littered with players aged 30 - the longer the drop off, the older the average age. Average age of: Class of 2010 prems: 26.7 Class of 2009 who didn't make it to 2010: 28.7 Class of 2008, not in 2009/2010: 28 Class of 2007, not in 2008/2009/2010: 29 Go the aged warriors at your peril

Interesting in my analysis of prems who come in each year, there are about 35 total give or take a few (with the standardisation, it works out pretty much the same each year distribution wise though) About 20-25 stay from previous year (meaning 10-15 drop off...urgh) About 8-10 come in who have been there previously About 3-7 come in cold - some like Swallow were banging on the door the previous year (vast majority of the cold were like him), others like Jack came from the clouds (you might get one per year that will do that) Not wanting to steal my premium analysis article thunder, but I'm trying to pick the 10 prems who will drop out this year, and find 10 who can come in. One will be a bolter from average <70ppg last year Three will be coming from 70-99 with this being their first (and possibly only) foray into the prem zone Six will be returning. ROK is a likely return candidate I must say.
