Looks like the Battlers are trying to hard to live up to this week's theme. Haven't done any sums but the scoring looks very bleak so far.

It has been effing freezing in Melbourne this week and by the looks of my team selection this week, it will indeed be a Bleak Week. Roughead returning, Bartel and Kelly back and fit again, a playing ruckman in Zac Smith for the first time in a few weeks, Ziebell and Dahlhaus sitting on the bench ... I'm taking odds at ChiefBet that you'll be perfectly fine! Ziebell 125 Cunnington 110 or so. Shaw 125 Dahlhaus 130+ Smith 116 in the ruck. Bartel and Kelly 100 each. Hawkins 85 despite barely touching it. Dangerfield, Roughead, etc to come. Chief, your team is second for a reason - you really have to have more faith in them We have played above expectations thus far this week. Having a ruckman makes a massive difference, so Nicholls going down injured was a huge break in my favour I will admit as Smith finally got to show what he is capable of. Given the injuries I have had this year I will gladly take it. Don't know how long Nicholls will be out for, but for Smith's sake and mine I hope he gets a decent run at it. Didn't expect Roughy to play so well either, good luck to him. Bloody Chris Yarran though...he always does this, scores 40 when I play him scores massive when I don't. Still not over the line by a long shot. There is plenty of your blokes to come and all of the ones that are left have shown quite often this year that they can go large. How about that Iron Knob though...imagine if they didn't trade Goldstein, they would have had 400 between him and Ablett alone
I believe the Misfits have scored their highest ever score at 1295, but gone down by 2 points to the Devils, I have a habit of logging points prescaling but its definitely tight

My mob couldnt quite overcome Goldstein's dominance in the ruck Well done Grav! Good win Larrikin Lagoon 1338 d Gariwerd 1310 Les W: 5 - Todd Goldstein (LLL) - 221 4 - Brett Deledio (GC) - 141 3 - Chad Wingard (GC) - 122 2 - Allan Christensen (GC) - 121 1 - Brendan Goddard (LLL) - 106 And I was very happy with Touk Miller's 132 in the reserves!

Thanks Ant, you were bloody unlucky. Hickey stiff not to get a run. With no mid tons and sub 40's from Scooter and Lumumba, I had no right to snare this one. Goldy's heroics season-defining for the Lefties. Swings and roundabouts of the footy world sees smoky recruit Alex Woodward (on the cusp of breaking into the team) suffer yet another serious knee injury. Feel gutted for the kid.
Foul Bay 1522 d Darraweit 1230 Les W Votes: Dahlhaus 5 H Shaw 4 Ziebell 3 Dangerfield 2 Zac Smith 1 All Foul Bay players, all of whom were mighty good this week. Darraweit's best were Old Man Harvey, Young Man Coniglio, Everywhere Man Armitage and Son Son Walters. Greenwood's first game back was encouraging too. But when one club's best available team is ranked at an A Grade, and the other is ranked B or B+ at best, this is what happens. Given I had 16 fit players this week to pull together a team, I'd almost take 1230 points. Darraweit is probably a 100-150 point better team with Edwards, McGlynn and even guys like Vickery or a fit Walker. Still nowhere near enough to trouble Foul Bay when they get up and running though. And probably not going to happen for at least 3 weeks though, so while the slide down to the middle rungs of the ladder has been inexplicably delayed, it is coming! Onward to the next step down the path of youth and team turnover.
Overall there were some very close games that could have gone the other way. Looks like it is too late for last week's write up, but hopefully we can get something together for this one just past. if Chris is too busy, handball to Grav or anyone else willing to have a crack. Apart from the closeness of the games, we need that front page presence and the all important ladder.

My apologies for the past week's non-write up. I've been smashed at work and at home in the past 2-3 weeks and simply haven't been able to get anything extra written up that hasn't involved work or the like. Given that, and an impending holiday in a couple of weeks, my involvement here is going to be scaled back between now and the ORFFA finals. Think I'm down for one more write up in coming weeks (according to the roster!) and I should be able to do the finals write-ups as well. Work and home are, at the moment, a bit more important and rather more pressing.

Sorry for the delay. In a bit of a shite affair (if I'm being honest) the Battlers beat the Hoppers 1089 to 1029. Les W votes: 5. A Oxley (Hoppers) - 118 4. C Mayne (Battlers) - 117* 3. E Curnow (Hoppers) - 117 2. B McEvoy (Battlers) - 116 1. M Murphy (Battlers) - 104 *Mayne gets the 4 votes over Curnow due to being on the winning team (I think that's how it works)
Battlers battled to a win over the Hops, both coaches probably not happy though - 1089 Vs 1029 Les W Votes: 5. Oxley 118 GG 4. Maybe 117 BB 3. Curnow 117 GG 2. McEvoy 116 BB 1. Murphy 104 BB

I am a bit disappointed I couldnt win this one, but I was kinda lucky i got so close, Grav, due to some of your better players having a down week. Good to see you win a close one too. You've had more than your fair share of close losses over the last couple of seasons.

.....'maybe' he is, 'maybe' he isn't......but thanks for pointing out my typing prowess TiB PS: Jimbo..........just a reminder. Cos I never let go I traded up in the PSD to get DeGoey. You traded Goldy to get one spot ahead of me, and cut my lunch by snaring the Goo meister. Goldstein = 15 games, ave of 127, total points 1919 DeGoey = 10 games, ave of 55, total points 559
Ouch, I am not sure Jimbo needed reminding sNoZ - but just in case he had forgotten it is good of you to remind him. Nice bit of 'Collingwood Class' by our man in NY, NY right there people.
