Birdsville Battlers 1311 def Nunawading Nuffers 1195
A fairly even effort from the Battlers sees them get home over the Nuffers. Eight scores over 90 compared to five for the Nuffers probably tells the story, though Houli's big night out and JPK's unusually quiet night (61) provided most of the difference. Tom McDonald (95) and Rischitelli (101) continue to surprise for the Battlers, while Ellis-Yolmen looks like a terrific pick up for the Nuffers.
    Best
    Battlers: Houli 150, Murphy, 109, Cloke 104
    Nuffers: Broadbent 104, Stanton 104, Ellis-Yolmen 104

Waikikamoocow Incorrigibles 1233 def Lovely Banks Lilacs 1209
Six centuries to two helped the Cows overcome an injury to the luckless Chris Knights (25) and a green-vested Wright (21) to win a tight one over the improving Lilacs.
The Cows received contributions from usual suspects Hannebery, Fyfe (107) & McVeigh (107), while youngsters Griffiths and Elliot impressed up forward. The Cows will no doubt have their fingers crossed for good news on gun recruit Jeremy McGovern's knee after he notched 100 in just over half a game.
The Lilacs were well served by their young, emerging midfield with Duncan, Caddy (94) and Heeney (96) all solid contributors. Scott Thompson wound back the clock with an impressive first up effort.
    Best
    Cows: Hannebery 136, Griffiths 110, Elliot 108
    Lilacs: Thompson 138, Bird 105, Duncan 98

Venus Bay Vultures 1318 def Wagga Wagga Wombats 1161
Solid win for the Vultures over the Wombats. A century from late replacement Jay Schulz added to the efforts of Beams, Steven, Crisp (108) and Howe (102) and helped offset sub-par performances from Malceski and Parker.
Six scores of 52 or less ruined any real chance for the Wombats and meant that the efforts of Watson, Prestia, Thomas and Buddy (103) were in vain.
    Best
    Vultures: Beams 138, Steven 113, Schulz 112
    Wombats: Watson 147, Prestia 125, Thomas 106
Gundagai Grasshoppers 1070 def Gariwerd Cockatoos 1013
A morale boosting win for the young upstarts from Gundagai. With two green vests to contend with and the absence of star midfielder Rockliff, Lachie Neale put on the Superman cape and dragged his young charges across the line. He was ably supported by the emerging Jack Martin, while Grundy, Cripps (89) and Brayshaw (65 in less than a half of footy) gave us a glimpse of the not-to-distant future.
Only one score over 90 probably sums up a difficult day for Gariwerd. As always, Nathan Jones gave his all, but didn't get much in the way of support. A first quarter injury to youngster Mitch Wallis (15) didn't help the Cockatoo's cause.
    Best
    Hoppers: Neale 170, Martin 117, Grundy 98
    Cockatoos: Jones 101, Smith 87, Guthrie 86

Foul Bay Chickens 1156 def Mount Beauty Uglies 951
In the ‘Battle of Last Man Standing', the Chooks stumbled their way to a win against a decimated Uglies outfit to stay on top of the ladder. Roughead, Selwood and Shaw put in mighty efforts to ensure that a combined 31sc from the injury affected Ziebell (4) Bartel (5) and Stokes (22) was not a factor. A growing injury list sees the Chooks depth tested like never before.
A luckless Mount Beauty copped late withdrawals in Riewoldt and Boyd plus a no-show in the ruck which cost them dearly. Cotchin and Martin were the clear standouts for the Uglies, with some support from Rioli and Ellis (90).
    Best
    Chooks: Roughead 173, Selwood 154, Shaw 116
    Uglies: Cotchin 144, Martin 110, Rioli 93

Iron Knob Codpieces 1339 def Marble Bar Misfits 1129
No Gazza? No worries. That was the story for Iron Knob as old stagers Hodge and Swan, along with David Mackay, stepped up big time to get the win over Marble Bar. Garland (107) and Riewoldt of the Jack variety (96) were a good supporting cast.
Swan was the only shining light in the Codpiece's midfield as an even effort from Ward, Whitfield, Rich (93) and Dunstan (87) saw the much improved Misfits win the midfield battle. Devon Smith was a bright spot up forward but six scores of 55 or less put paid to the Misfits chances - and probably ensured and extra drink or 2 was consumed by their coach.
    Best
    Codpieces: Hodge 177, Swan 150, Mackay 129
    Misfits: Smith 123, Whitfield 115, Ward 110

Charlie's Opening Spelunkers 1200 def Cradle Mountain Devils 1173
A 14-man Spelunkers outfit got home in a nail-biter against the Devils. Staring down the barrel of defeat after the late withdrawal of emerging star ‘the Bont', the Spelunkers got home on the back of big games from Stephen Hill and the surprising Mark Blicavs to continue their unbeaten run. Hooker, Gunston (100) and Swallow (94) were also important for the Spelunkers.
The Devils had five players ‘ton up' - Zorko, Pendlebury, Hurley, Heppell (105) and Zaharakis (102) - but tough days at the office for Redden (64) and Stevie J (64) proved costly in a tight contest.
    Best
    Spelunkers: Hill 149, Blicavs 124, Hooker 114
    Devils: Zorko 115, Pendlebury 107, Hurley 106

Darraweit Guim Dirigibles 1267 def Whitsunday Warriors 1232
The boys from the Guim remain undefeated after escaping with a narrow win over the Warriors as Armitage continued his good form leading the Dirigibles midfield. Coniglio's form suggests a breakout year may be on the way while the performance of Walters and Edwards (100) up forward will no doubt please coach Chris88.
A tough one for the Warriors, going down despite notching five 100's to the Dirigibles' four. In the end, an OOP ruck and a green vest for Crozier (8) proved to be their undoing. Sloane continued to score at will and was well supported by Birchall, Gibson, Talia (107) and Boak (106).

    Best
    Dirigibles: Armitage 139, Coniglio 121, Walters 101
    Warriors: Sloane 140, Birchall 128, Gibson 111

Powlett Plains Packers 1376 def Larrikin Lagoon Lefties 1365
In what turned out to be the match of the round, the Packers scraped home in a thriller over the Lefties. The Lefties got solid contributions across the board but, in the end, it was the Packers with eight scores over 100 to the Lefties five that got the win.
In a high quality game, the Packers were best served by Pearce and Douglas with Smith, Hunt (104), Miles (103), Lynch (103), Mundy (102) and Carazzo (102) all cracking the ton. For the Lefties, Mitchell, Goldstein, Lumumba, Broomhead (108) and Lewis (107) all eclipsed that mark as well.
    Well played to both teams!
    Best
    Packers: Pearce 121, Douglas 113, Smith 106
    Lefties: Mitchell 121, Goldstein 110, Lumumba 109

Great write-up JC. Top review of a top round.

No Judd for the Chooks now as well, leaving the injured list at Libba, Bartel, Montagna, Stokes, Yarran, Judd, Ziebell and probably Hawkins. That's almost 800 points not playing this week.Cradle Mountain heavy favourites this week with their midfield - expect Redden and Stevie J to bounce back and 'ton up' along with the usual suspects.

Excellent work JC - a very fine review indeed. The Spelunkers seem to have chosen a good week to play the Cows. I think I still remember the days of having a full complement of 15 on the ground and decent emergencies ready to cover any late outs Seems like a distant dream at the moment.

Good read Jason, some talent finally revealed.

And good win Chris. Just when it looks like I might get a ruck, Ollie Wines goes down. Will have a crack at the Nuffers this week, tanking for the MSD is becoming boring.

Considering the injuries you have Terry, it was a bloody good effort. In fact, reckon you are unlucky not to have snuck home.

Again, injuries are just causing carnage across the league right now.

Anyone who has escaped the injury stick ought to be touching large amounts of wood and hoping it continues.

Have a feeling that 2015 might be decided more by attrition than talent alone.

Darraweit have the Cockatoos of Gariwerd this week, I might actually have a couple of guys returning from absences this week in McGlynn and Cornes, which makes a nice change.

Things aren't much better in Iron Knob! Think we only had 17 guys playing last week!

Definitely a tough year injury wise!

Going to be interesting at the Bar this week, only 14 named on field, 4 named as emerbencies or on extended bench

Some very close games this round. Was hoping for 3 on the trot for the UGLIES but the medics were not able to get the players on the field. Hope those medics are on the win/loss pay system :)
