I'm with torcida, I'd be worried more about covering injuries and byes than trying to get big cox in your side - in Petrie and Smith you have two capable rucks who are scoring pretty-well.

very interested to get peoples thought on the best mid to upgrade to this week. Already have pendles, judd, montags, chappy.

Was thinking Swan, but has a massive BE.

Selwood is cheap but hasn't got a good history against Collingwood.

    Mundy/Priddis/Thompson not convinced.

Mitchell, astute choice, but Rd24 against GC may see general soreness rear its head.

    Thoughts?

I have Swan, Boyd, Murphy, Selwood, Mundy. Am thinking of getting either Watson or Pendles. Watson is cheap now but has the bye in Rd 10. Not concerned about league wins and should have cover for Rd 10, so may upgrade Curnow to Watson.

Watson is only in about 15% of teams and averaging around 120. Pendles is averaging about 122, but he is in nearly 30% of teams. Watson is somewhat "unique".

Will have to downgrade Grimes to a rookie. Perhaps Alex Johnson or Ben Jacobs.

6 weeks of scoring has done enough to convince me on Mundy. Still only in a small percentage of teams, so he's my ticket to hopefully catch up points this week. Reckon I have 2 more weeks of trying to catch leaders before I pull the rip-cord and parachute my way to league success.

    I need some advice.
I have two choices this week with $160k in the bank ,

    1) Grimes > B Murphy & Jurrah > Pav

    or

    2) Grimes > Shaw & Jurrah > Brennan

    Which one is better???

Yes, Selwood is cheap. Don't worry about his poor Pies record - he's got 15 games to go after that. Cheap + good = get.

    @Midge
Agree with Mundy. One of the footy shows reckoned he'd be considered 'elite' if he played in Melb. We lose sight here.

Harris is a good choice, maybe a little overpriced at this stage for me.

going Curnow>I Smith and Grimes>Shaw. How do you reckon on the field out of Smith and AKrak? Or I have other coverage in both Iles and Matera.

@Zander - i like option 2. Pav is on the up, wharfies it up for the derby and whilst murphy is a risk, i think there is more upside to those trades.

Random thought : Was reading that some were considering Gilbee as a replacement for Grimes. I had Gilbee in my team last year & found he was doing a lot of the 'kick ins', (after behinds were scored). I thought this was great! Just think of all the touches he was racking up! Then a friend pointed out to me that the 'kick ins' don't count as possessions. Haven't watched many Dogs games tho', do don't know whose job it is now. Heath Shaw is sometimes a kicker-in-a-rer, but he seems to be doing enough other stuff on the field to be scoring highly.

Was really keen to get M.Watson from Carlton into my team after the bye, (I'm sure he'll be picked & keep his spot in the team), but he is a specialist 'kick-a-in-a-rer' if ever I saw one! Seriously, this guy is like a punter in the NFL!

So, on to my trades this week : Copped a donut in my forward line last week, & with no Rioli, Higgins, Crudster Richo, Dixon or 'Where's Prestia?' this week, trading ensued. Still hanging on to Rioli & Missy- can't afford to keep jumping off my 'premiums' & wasting sideways trades. Figured Richo & Prestia are struggling to get a guernsey- (& a price rise!), so gave them the chop. For Retzlaff & I.Smith! May be making myself more of the same trouble with JS issues, but I desperately need the DPP links.

Grimey Grimes & DaVinci Coad, (would you believe I've still got this guy?!), will have to wait another week. Burning the trades big time!

with players like higgins and these byes this yr sometimes its good 2 cut ur losses and move on ( think of it as correction trade )..... no1 likes sideways trades but sometimes u got no choice .if i still had him this week . with harris and curnow + grimes going down i would be facing donut....

    @the general.

Not sure why you'd question Swan with a high BE. It's not like you need his price to go up so you can trade him up or down later. You get him in and let him do his thing and you keep him there. Price up or down with these premiums doesn't matter much to me.

So I am languishing well out of contention despite what I thought was a great team.

So I am going to mix it up for the rest of the season and take some risks.

    Therefore:

    Grimey to Gilbert
    D Harris to Didak

I'm out of overall. Thought I'd be in it this year, but too slow to climb the ranks - sitting at 11,000.
So my focus is back on League.
I can probably do w/o a trade if going for League, but still thinking to continue trading aggressively....

    Team:
    BACK
Lids, Goddard, Heppel, Enright, Broughton, Lower, L.Thompson (Gibbs, Grimes, Poops)
    MID
Pendles, Priddis, Goodes, Swallow, J.Selwood, Iles (Harris,Atley,Hibberd)
    RUCK
    Sandi, Cox (Z.Smith, Keefe)
    FWD
Pav, Franklin, J.Roo, N.Roo, Tapscott,Darling, Green (Matera, McKernan, Prestia)

    I have $44K and 19 Trades left.
As Prestia is in/out and not doing much I was thinking of the following:
    Prestia> I.Smith
    Grimes> Shaw

But I should win my league without the trade and depending on Shaws game and his BE may not move too much this week.

    Hold or Trade?

I believe this week will be quite important in terms of trading for most people. With popular picks like Grimes, Curnow, Higgins, Rioli, Harris, Judd, Murphy, Gibbs and Yarran all not playing most players will be trading to avoid donuts and the success of these trades will finally separate the masses.

Personally, with Gibbs, Grimes, Toy and Hibberd missing from my backline i'm forced to trade.

Grimes > Davis - Then Davis into the midfield for Heppell. Hopefully no loss in ppg and a gain of 270k.

    Richardson > O'Keefe - Out goes a non-playing rookie, in comes a bargain premium.

Hopefully Puopolo plays or else i may still have a backline donut.

If you can do w/o a trade, should wait one week on Prestia > I Smith. Can't hurt, might help.
Also, have you considered Grimes > Bob Murphy?
You'll lose 10 pts average vs Shaw but save $75K and open your F/D link with McKernan which might be valuable.

The reason you worry about Swan's breakeven is that He is likely to drop 20k this week whilst J. Selwood would either stay the same or go up. So hopping on a Selwood or a Mundy this week might make sense over Swan.
