Plan B as it turned out was Plan A but with more ruckmen but none of them scored as well as key forward Shaun McKernan who followed an 89 last week with a 97. The Crocs had a brilliant forward line led by Gunston (123) and De Goey (117). Taranto (105) and Witherden (105) also topped the ton. Meanwhile, it was the unusual suspects starring for the Whalers with Motlop (136) scoring his best since 2016. Jenkins finally broke the curse and scored 120 (though delisting Amon probably helped) Tarrant also topped the ton for the 2nd time this year with 114. Ex Bunyip SD Thompson continued his excellent 2018 campaign after being let of leash at the Yips busting out a huge 139. He was not the only old timer down back to bust out a huge score with Hodgey chiming in with a handy 121. Goldy, smashed big Sauce in the middle to take the Big Tap point this week, 133 v 70. The Blowflys midfield led by Ablett (68) and Menegola (77) were the only lowlights for the visitors with Sloane back to form and Jack check this shit out Redden busting a huge 154 which is exactly 70 points above his season average. The homeside had lacklustre performances through all lines with 10 players unable to beat their season average. Just sums up 2018 for the locked-and-loaded wooden spooners! There was an intriguing lead up to this fixture that saw the hometown Buffaloes hosting the Panthers from Pearcedale. Serengeti were starting to show signs of the form that saw them take out the 2017 premiership while the Panthers were on a 3 game winning streak that had seen them climb to 5th on the table. Would the Buffaloes continue their push towards finals or would it be the Panthers that continued their winning ways and move closer to a top 4 berth? In an even start to the contest, Serengeti coaching staff had brought tagger Scott Selwood (97) back into the squad to deal with ex-Buffalo Josh Kennedy (103) and were happy to contain the champ to a modest (JPK-standard) score. However with Nank the Tank (113) showing up the lack of respect the Buffaloes hold in their ruckmen tactics, the Panthers were being given every opportunity to succeed. Hunter (107) was doing his best to put his side on top and with Mundy (101) having a great game up forward they were every chance of succeeding. Unfortunately for the Panthers though there were not enough contributors and Serengeti had winners on every line. Scott Pendlebury (163) wound back the clock and took control of the game after half time with Charlie Dixon (115) making the most of his opportunities. Zac Merrett (130) continued his form resurgence and put his hand up for a return to the midfield after coming off the bench since the mid-season break and Marcus Adams (89) and Tom Langdon (89) did their best to arrest the defensive woes that have plagued this Serengeti team throughout the year. A comprehensive performance from the home side saw them run out eventual winners by 193 points. Final scores Serengeti 1351 defeated Pearcedale 1158 BAFFU votes 3 Scott Pendlebury 163 (SB) 2 Zac Merrett 130 (SB) 1 Charlie Dixon 115 (SB) So it was Serengeti that ended up with the win and with the 4 points they move up to 11th and sit 1 win outside of the top 8 although their poor scoring start to the season may prove their eventual undoing. After being home for 5 weeks with the mid-season break, round 17 sees the Buffaloes leave the comforts of Serengeti for the first time in over a month for a season defining clash against the Sandgropers. Pearcedale on the other hand have dropped to 6th with their grip on a finals spot potentially shaking. A massive match up with the 8th placed Blowflys awaits in round 17 and could go a long way to securing that spot if they can come away with a win.

FU Round 13 Trivia Christmas Island recorded the 50th win in their history. Their overall record currently sits at 50-36 for a win rate of 58.1% Serengeti recorded their 40th club win. Their overall record is 40-44 at a win rate of 47.6% Ararat have a record 13 wins in a row while Blanchetown have 17 losses in a row. The 13-0 and 0-13 records are both firsts for FU. Coolgardie have 5 losses in a row, King Island have 4. The longest in their respective club histories. Next week Pearcedale will get another go at getting to win 50. Ararat v Staghorn, 5-0 in the Dillos favour.
In the Goldfields, what promised to be an enthralling battle, turned into a bit of a fizzer, with the home side Coolgardie Prospectors pretty-much laying down and handing the choccies to the visiting Ararat Armadillos, by a cool 213 points. @insider Coolgardie: 1191 / 79.4 Ararat: 1404 / 93.6 The game started off well, with a pair of Prospectors flying out of the blocks, and the coach just trying to tell the rest of his players to maintain the rage. Over in the opposition huddle there were murmurs of an upset, and then the load screams of the coaches high pitched whinge could be heard: "this is bullshit". It turns out the coach didn't have to squeal like a pig, all he had to do was show a little patience (something he's renowned for), and wait for the home team to keel over. Defence: Coolgardie - The local defenders ran around in pairs, with J Short and D Astbury both scoring a tiger-ish mid 80's, while J Macmillan and L Duggan were well below par on 60-ish. In the two's, R Clarke decided to mimic his tiger brothers, with 85 of his own, again asking the coach why he wasn't picked. Ararat - There was quality galore in the Armadillos backline, with T Cutler (111) starring, T Stewart and L McDonald both scoring int he nervous nineties, and only L Ryan with a disappointing 68 points. Ararat won by 77 points, 364 to 287. Midfield: Coolgardie - There were a couple of raised bats by T Miller and J O'Meara, until the runner got out to them and asked why they had their cricket gear on. They both rushed to the change rooms to get into the correct attire. B Ebert and O Wines saw the kerfuffle, and decided that they should both also head to the change rooms, but instead of returning to the field, they decided to head to the pub. Ararat - S Edwards led the way for the visitors mids, with a ton of his own. He was supported, but not overly "ably", by a pair of spandex-sporting 80's from J Ziebell and R Henderson, while B Gibbs used the excuse of his new South Australian connection, to follow Wines and Ebert to the bar, where they were seen discussing Corvidae and Electrical Discharges. Coolgardie won by 20 points, 350 to 330. Rucks: For some reason the ruckmen in this game decided that they each take a half of footy and play unopposed. It was a very unusual, but effective tactic, as both players top-scored for their respective teams. S Martin was first out of the gates for the home side, and proceeded to pile on 110 points. He seemed pretty happy with himself as he galloped off at half time, and was seen mouthing "beat that" to his Armadillo opponent. M Gawn's beard took this like the proverbial red rag to a bull (incidentally, red does not enrage bulls, nor do they naturally charge at red objects, its nothing more than a myth), and was seen dragging the rest of his body around the field, getting his palm on the (red) ball at any opportunity he could muster. He was seen after the game with a cask of the local goon, seated with Stefan, discussing the stats of the game. You could tell Max was winning, as his smile could be seen from under that rug, while Stefan's smirk quickly disappeared. Ararat won by 41 points, 151 to 110. Forwards: Coolgardie - Infront of the big sticks, B Parfitt once again showed his early-season form, which is encouraging, with great support from J Sicily. At the other end of the spectrum, O Fantasia decided that he wanted to take the weekend off to play the X-Box, so it was up to new recruit M Apeness and emergency M Wright to piece together a pair of 30's to absolutely demolish any chance the locals had of winning this thing. Ararat - Infront of the other big sticks (the ones at the other end of the ground...), T McDonald and C Wingard saw the midfield antics of a pair of Prospectors, and decided that they also wanted in on these cricketing shenanigans. They were very well supported by the baby Armadillo in J Anderson, while L Dahlhaus maintained his season-long form of being on the team sheet, but going missing out on the paddock. Ararat won by 87 points, 353 to 266 Interchange: Coolgardie - Noting the voids left all over the field, A Aliir came charging onto the field and was seen intercepting everything on his way to 102 points. New recruit T Dumont was seen chatting to his ex team-mates, but still managed to be average, which was much better than many of his new team-mates. Ararat - The visitors' D Rich came roaring onto the field after watching the locals' Aliir do just that, and in replicating his ruckman team-mate, decided to outdo his opponent in every facet, on his way to 119 points of his own. J Higgins meanwhile, wanted in on the action, and managed to slot right into the midfield, outscoring three of his starting team-mates, to show his coach how much he was listing to the quarter-time squeal. Ararat won by 28 points, 206 to 178. In the end it was an easy win for the visitors, who continue their undefeated season, while the locals have slumped to their worst streak in team history. Next week Ararat are back at home, welcoming the Staghorn Flat Bulls to town. The Prospectors are on the road to Blanchetown to take on the Bunyips. Good luck to all four teams. Christmas Island Smugglers 1,389 def Hughenden Prairie Dogs 1,145 In a must win game for the Prairie Dogs to keep in touch with the 8 saw the Smugglers prove why they are force in 2018 with a 244 point over a lack lustre home team. It didn’t start will for the home team with no ruck, and early injuries to Jack (15) and WHE (21) really setting the tone for the day and the Smugglers took full advantage. The only players to give a yelp for the Prairie Dogs being Yeo (142), Oliver (154) and Breust (165), the remainder are not worth talking about. The Smugglers were outstanding and it was consistency all over the ground which provided them with an easy victory with Beams (148), Grigg (100), Gray (109), Thomas (110) amd Smith (106) showing why 2018 could be their year. Groote Eylandt Barracudas 1,318 defeated Banchang Barcrawlers 1,084 The home side is looking to extend its wing'ing streak this week whilst the visitors are looking to break their losing streak. Both teams fly out of the race onto the paddock and get stuck into it, the big men tapping and slapping from the centre to the boundary racking up the hit-outs. Jake Lloyd for the Cudas was hot, hot, hot off the half back supported beautifully by young Kolodjashnij who has really picked up the pace and is really shinning. Frawley and Weitering were solid in playing the lock down role on Matera and Impey. The The Barcrawlers forwards struggled all day with the pressure the home town boys were laying, even two meter Peter couldn’t keep his hands on the ball. The middle was a hard fought contest, the visitors Lyons, Adams and Greenwood combined well as they had to with LDU left at home and Wilson not seeing the call up papers. Zorko the magnificent was red hot off the wing and through the centre with the Corn Boy muscling his way through the packs. The main difference for the day was the scoring power of the Cudas with Hawkins leading the way with the left and right flanks covered well by Riewoldt and Cripps of the Jamie variety. Barcrawler Tuohy had a great tussle with angry Jack whilst Doedee did a number on Turner. Off the bench Berry continued his great progress with his speed and decision making on field while Lewis struggled to keep up with the pace for the Cudas. Burn man Higgins has been a revelation so far this year and continued his excellent form while Robinson just shadowed Lewis and didn’t do much all day. After the blistering start from both teams, the home side prevailed to take the 4 points and move to 5th on the ladder while Bangchang slips to 10th. The Barracudas head to Cow Bay and the Barcrawlers @choppers will be back on home soil to host the Vikings.
