The match up between Pakenham and Gisborne has finished. It was touted as a danger game for Pakenham with Gisborne arriving in towncoming off a win last week and in form. It failed to live up to its billing with 2players for the Grenadesunable to get on the park, which proved costly in the end. The usual suspects scored well, with Crouch and Polecboth exciting the fans with big scores,the Roos fired, with Jack taking the honors. Coach Tomster will be rueing his missed opportunities. Solid performances from all his playing players helped keep the scores close. Carlisle and Pyke both put in putrid efforts for the home team andwill nowcome under pressure this weekto hold their spot in the line up with replacements likely being available for selection. Pakenham 1355 Gisborne 1148 A comfortable victory in the end for the Parasites who continue the unbeaten start to the season. With only 2 weeks to the mid season break, the fans are hoping this form can continue. Our eyes now turn to Eden next week, looking forward to seeing this famous bridge. The gap has narrowed after some last quarter midfield heroics from the Whalers. There's just 28 points in it with Southern Cross 14/1114/80 and Eden 14/1086/78. The 'Gropers will be relying on Mitch Duncan to hit the tonne meaning David Hale will have to pull out a seasons best score to get the Whalers over the line. History & form have put the balance in Southern Cross' favour, however when has history or form meant much when a game is on the line.

 

Hmm, very interesting there dd. Your team deserves to win, and by a fair way. If I had had those last two players play it might have been slightly closer. Oh well, what can do you do. At least I scored over 1000 for the first time! Prospectors next week, and with my team improving every week and only 25 behind the Diggers this week, hopefully a shock win - I'm probably going to say that every week for the season

 

Interestingly enough, had I kept Aish's score instead of Suban's I would be in the lead. But like my camping trips, things don't always go to plan...

Clearly not a very good performance by the boys, with way too many passengers in the side this week. Congratulations however to the Bunyips, who didn't get the 'yips' and held on for a well fought win. Amazingly, the Prospectors still managed to be well-represented in the BOG voting, only going to show just how bad some of the other boys performed. 3 - Josh P. Kennedy (CP, 144) 2 - Robbie Gray (BBU, 139) 1 - Ricky Petterd (CP, 134) Next week the Bunyips are back at home against Christmas Island, while the Prospectors are back on the road and looking to make amends against Gisborne. Couple of things there mate... Armitage DNP neither did Whitfield so I get Robertsons higher score (73). Still lucky to get over the line!! Gray is up there for POOYA Award!

In what was a close fought battle, Southern Cross got over the line after a huge effort from vice captain Mitch Duncan. Some low scoring made it appear the 'Gropers would come home in a canter. Southern Cross' worst 2 players (L.Hansen & S.Kerridge) combined for 100 points, this however was a large score in comparison to the 4 worst players for Eden (T.Boyd, T.Lynch, N.Suban & S.Rowe) combining for a lowly 74 points (the shenanigans by club president Kevin 'the butcher' Bacon in removing the hot water & toilet paper from the visiting rooms obviously worked on some of the more 'mentally weak' Whalers). However some Whalers midfield heroics (S.Thompson, R.Griffen & N.Jones combined for 393 points) had the match evenly poised with both sides having one player left. Eden were staring down the barrel, with a 28 point deficit and D.Hale v M.Duncan the final contest. In the end Duncan was one of the main contributors for Souther Cross, closing out the match with a team high 116 points. Needless to say D.Hale (78 points) was unable to make up the deficit and get the win for the Whalers. The win puts the Sandgropers ahead of the ledger at 3 & 2, positioned nicely with only a couple of weeks to the bye where they can ditch some dead wood, reload and move into the second half of the season building on what has been a promising start for a young side. In Eden's defence, they wont often come up against a club president as wily as Kevin, in saying that I'm sure they'll be happy to return to paradise.

Banchang1280, Xmas Island1085. The Barcrawlers posted their highest score of the season, versus the worst by Xmas Island so far to run out comfortable winners at Flying FishCove Park. Robbie Warnock (111) dominated the ruck giving regular first use of the ball to man-of-the-match Joey Montagna (140). Banchang got plenty of run off half-back from Swallow and Adcock (both 103). Xmas Island's performance was nothing short of pathetic. Redden (121) played a lone hand in the midfield, with his 3 colleagues Judd, Heppell and Hartlett combining for a miserable 140 points.
