Certainly makes it interesting, I like the idea, it is our league's award that we are voting on, not the AFL and therefore games played for us should be the field we select from.. Dean has asked for votes, I sent mine a few days ago and found it quite challenging/interesting to give the 5 to 1 I did mine a few days ago too. Also found it really interesting. Actually, I reckon there's 5 standouts, but 1 of them missed out in my votes, cause I wanted to give 1 vote to a particular kid. Definitely difficult ranking the 5 though.
Agree, it was a lot tougher than I had thought it would be. I didn't have the Bontempelli dilemma though because I couldn't vote for him
Geez, this is tough. Really tough. I'll send votes through today though. can we get word out that everyone should be doing this if they haven't already?
I agree with the comments above, it was a very even year from the Rising Stars making it far more difficult to decide which five players to give votes to and which order to place these players in than I anticipated at the start of the season. Half of the 18 ORFFA coaches have voted so far with 10 players receiving at least one vote and five players receiving the maximum five votes from at least one ORFFA coach, no player has received more than two 5's. Thanks to the coaches who have already voted, I will send PM's today to the remaining nine coaches to ensure they know what the voting process is and get them to PM their votes to me.

Wow, thanks for the update Dean. That's really even so far!
Most of the nine coaches responded to my PM requesting Rising Star votes. I am still waiting for two coaches to submit their votes and I have just sent reminder PM's to these coaches. I will provide an update below: Whilst the opinion of individual coaches differs greatly, as a collective the ORFFA coaches have a clear-cut top eight in the Rising Star Award, with each of these eight players having received at least 17 votes, an additional three players have each received a solitary vote. Seven players have received the maximum five votes from at least one coach and no player has been a unanimous selection from the 15 coaches able to vote for him.

Couple of guys on holidays, hopefully you hear from the soon... I am stunned by the bold bit, I thought there were 3 possibly 4 standouts, how they could have got no votes from anyone is amazing..

This is a very interesting count so far.
No worries. I am interested to see if votes were placed on their ORFFA season or their real life season.
Bandit wrote: Didn't realise there was a minimum number of games that needed to be played Prap? I voted about a week ago! As Len said there was no minimum, but 10 players played in double the games that Bont did. I still gave him a vote for his high average though.
2014 ORFFA RISING STAR WINNER - MARBLE BAR MISFITS MIDFIELDER LUKE DUNSTAN Marble Bar Misfits midfielder Luke Dunstan has polled 51 votes to win the ORFFA's 2014 Rising Star Award, 11 votes ahead of Powlett Plains midfielder James Aish with Birdsville defender/midfielder Luke McDonald rounding out the top three on 32 votes. 2014 is the first year that the ORFFA has awarded a Rising Star Award and although the Marble Bar Misfits didn't make the 2014 finals they have dominated the individual awards with Dunstan's fellow Marble Bar Misfit midfielder Callan Ward winning the 2014 Les W. Medal. During 2014 Dunstan was selected by the Marble Bar Misfits with selection 16 at the Pre-Season draft and debuted in Round 1, he played 14 games for Marble Bar, [span style='color: #333333;]averaging 9.3 kicks, 9.6 handballs, 3.9 marks, 0.6 goals, 3.6 tackles, 7.7 contested possessions and 74.9 supercoach points per game. Dunstan scored at least 100 supercoach points in three games with a season best of 143 points in Round 3 against the Mount Beauty Uglies. Luke Dunstan and James Aish had been team mates for South Australian junior representative teams in the years leading up to joining ORFFA club's at the start of 2014. The duo had outstanding junior careers, with the highlight for both being the key roles they played as members of the South Australian team that won the 2013 under 18 National Championships, both were in the SA leadership group with Dunstan captain and Aish joint vice-captain and they were both selected in the midfield of the 2014 under 18 All-Australian team, Aish was also selected in the under 18 All-Australian team in 2013 as a bottom-age player. Aish played 15 games for Powlett Plains during 2014, averaging 69.5 points per game and scored a total of 1,042 points, ranked third behind Luke McDonald with 1,049 and Luke Dunstan with 1,048, meaning that the top three points scorers were separated by a tiny seven points. Gundagai forward/midfielder Lewis Taylor scored 1,017 points at 59.8 points per game and was the only Rising Star to play all 17 games, Luke McDonald and James Aish were ranked second and third with 16 and 15 games respectively. One other coach didn't submit votes but as none of their players received a vote an adjustment didn't need to be made. Of the 12 players that received votes in the ORFFA Rising Star Award eight of them received between 17 and 51 votes making them a clear-cut top eight, the remaining four vote getters received one vote each. Without question the player that polarised the ORFFA coaches the most was sixth place finisher Marcus Bontempelli, who averaged 91.5 points per game making him a clear leader in this category, but played only six games when six of the top eight played at least 13 games. Botempelli received three 5's ranked equal second with Lewis Taylor, behind Luke Dunstan with four, however only four other coaches had Marcus in the votes. Only four of the 12 players that received a vote were selected in the top 10 overall at a Pre-Season draft, however this includes three of the top five players in the Rising Star Award, James Aish second (pick 8), Luke McDonald third (pick 5), and Kade Kolodjashnij fifth (pick 10). Only one player was drafted in 2013, Jake Stringer with pick 15 by the Gundagai Grasshoppers who were the only club with two players in the top 8 of the Rising Star Award with Lewis Taylor finishing fourth. Eight ORFFA Rising Stars received votes in the Les W Medal being: James Aish (9 votes), Tom Langdon (8) who finished seventh in the Rising Star Award, Luke Dunstan (6), Lewis Taylor (5), Marcus Bontempelli (3), Jake Stringer (3) Matt Crouch (2) and Jay Kennedy Harris (1), JKH was the only one of the eight not to poll a vote in the Rising Star Award. The top eight vote-getters in the Rising Star Award have all been named in this post above, the four players who finished in equal ninth position with one vote each were Josh Kelly, Harry Cunningham, Matt Crouch and Billy Hartung, with the last two players named being eligible for the 2015 ORFFA Rising Star Award. Football fans have often commented on how drawn out the AFL's Brownlow Medal count is, well in comparison to the counting of the votes and announcing the winner of the ORFFA's 2014 Rising Star award the AFL's 2014 Brownlow Medal was over quicker than a Peppa Pig episode. Thanks to all the coaches who submitted votes in the 2014 ORFFA Rising Star Award, and congratulations to all the Rising Star eligible players who made their debuts in 2014, in particular the dozen players who received votes in the Rising Star Award from the ORFFA coaches.
Thanks guys, Luke is apparently delighted with this award and his new #7 jumper... Awesome work Dean and very much appreciated!
Awesome stuff Dean. Classic comment on comparisons to Brownlow count speed. Cheers to Luke and the Misfits too.
Thanks for this Dean. Excellent job! Congrats to all the vote getters, especially Dunstan, and the two Cockies Matt Crouch and Harry Cunningham
