Last round will be remembered for the exceptional performances of the Gold Coast Suns and GWS. Upsetting Geelong and Carlton respectively, the two newest clubs of the AFL are delivering on their potential. From a SC perspective, Harley Bennell topped the charts after 6 goals while everyone's favourite Demon, Bernard Vince, and Gary Ablett rounded out the top 3.
We are starting to get to a point in the season where plenty of coaches are running out of trades, have nearly completed their teams and are holding off on trades for the time being. It's time for most people to focus on making the top 8 or top 4 in their leagues. It's a season where consistent scorers have been hard to find, which is the focus on this week's Podfather.
Some good options to consider this week to squeeze your way to a double chance in your league, or up the rankings if that's your aim.
    Michael Barlow (Frem) - Mid - $529,100 - 106.22 - 3.09%
Barlow has now dropped by over $60,000 this season while averaging a very healthy 106.22. At times, he cops a bit of attention from the opposition however it is his running ability that helps him breaks the occasional tag and help out in all areas onfield. Having missed a month earlier in the season, he needs to keep playing to ensure he's fit and firing for finals. He has pushed forward more this season averaging a goal a game to go along with his token 25-30 disposals and 4 tackles. Barlow's lowest score this season is 82, dropping below 90 on just one other occasion. It is extremely difficult to get your midfield full of the top players, so consistency is what you need to focus on for your final midfield spots. Very reliable and cheaper than his fellow Fremantle premiums.

    Bachar Houli (Rich) - Def - $453,700 - 86.08 - 1.67%
After a slow start to the season, Houli has finally found some solid, consistent form. Since the bye, he has averaged 91.67 with a lowest score of 80 and the highest being 108. He has generally been a consistent performer over the past 3-4 years and you'd expect more of the same from here, as Richmond continue to struggle. He has an opportunity to post a couple of big scores against St Kilda and Brisbane in the next fortnight though, so he could prove to be decent investment this week. With plenty of ball in the Tigers' backline, he should be getting 90-95 every week.

    Ben McGlynn (Syd) - Fwd - $483,300 - 94.90 - 1.49%
McGlynn has missed the past 2 weeks with a thumb injury and will make his return this week against GWS. Prior to his injury, McGlynn was enjoying and outstanding season, averaging 20 disposals, 7.5 tackles, 4.7 inside 50s and kicking 8 goals. He has made the move from a permanent fixture in the forward line to a grunt player in and around the ball. He had a score of 61 in Round 4 against North Melbourne (in a big loss), but has otherwise been a consistent scorer in the 90+ range. Tackling is a major part of his game and one that aids him and his SC scores. While his average in previous seasons has been poor (barring 2010 where he averaged), increased midfield time makes him a definite forward line option. This isn't a situation like Craig Bird, who is used as a tagger when the Swans need one. McGlynn loves getting involved in contests, which should see him average close to 95.

    Will Minson (WB) - Ruc - $500,200 - 96.31 - 6.06%
If you're in the market for a ruckman, perhaps someone to create a little cash for Sandilands, Minson is your man. He was the best ruckman last season but has been down on output this season. You cannot doubt his consistency, not dropping below 87 since round 1, usually picking up score of above 95 each week. Frees against were an issue early in the season, however he seems to have fixed that up a bit. Tackling numbers have increased as have his disposal numbers which suggest he may be starting to hit a bit of form. The best ruck option for the week and probably the rest of the season if he stays around this price.

    Bryce Gibbs (Carl) - Mid - $591,300 - 108.54 - 1.32%
I've always felt the criticism directed towards Gibbs has been too harsh. He has had an outstanding season, yet Carlton supporters never seem happy. Now contract negotiations have been finalised, maybe they'll finally acknowledge his very good season. His average of 108.54 is clearly a career best, with his tackling really improving this season. He has recorded two scores of 153 to go along with a further six 100s from the midfield. Murphy usually cops the tag, as does Simpson which is a positive. His price is something that will put off many, but you're almost guaranteed a 100+ every week. Carlton haven't had a good season yet Gibbs has been outstanding. Great option.

    Travis Boak (PA) - Mid - $547,500 - 104.42 - 1.63%
We finish off this week with Port Adelaide captain Travis Boak. He is generally the Port midfielder that gets the tag meaning his scores are a little up and down. When he goes big, though, he goes big, with his 100+ scores reading 157, 156, 132, 115 and 123. The Power will want to lock in a top 2 spot, needing all hands on deck if they are to do so. Hamish Hartlett's injury concerns almost lock Boak in as being tagged every week. He has the ability to break through it though, so if you're up for a risk, Boak is certainly an option. Has thrived since being named captain. Worth a look.
