With the NFL season opening in less than 5 days, the TS Australia NFL Keeper League, the premier NFL fantasy football league in Australia, redrafted on the weekend. Pre-season is mercifully over and with the real stuff kicking off with Seattle v Green Bay, a quick draft recap and season preview is on the cards. For those playing along at home, teams can retain a maximum of 6 players from their previous year's roster, and then go to the draft to select the remaining squad members. Essentially, round 1 in the re-draft is in reality round 7 of a non-keeper league draft.

    NFC
Rigil Kentaurus: Selected the new Jets acquisition CJ2K with their first selection in the re-draft, and followed it up by taking a still unproven QB in Ryan Tannehill in round 2. Golden Tate could be a wise selection considering he will only ever receive single coverage at Detroit, and Kyle Rudolph was a good get at round 10, particularly if Cassel can get some improved O-line protection. Freeman in round 11 looks a bit of a reach, as was Tucker in round 13. The real surprise though was the selection of 2 defences and another kicker, did auto-selection kick in?? Draft Grade - C

Brady's Bunch: The Bunch started 2014 in the right fashion taking Toby Gerhart, the artist formerly known as All Day's back up at Minnesota but now the Jaguars No.1 RB. Their second selection was a surprise, with the little dynamite with an ever-softening head, Wes Welker, taken late in round 8. Yes Wes plays for Peyton, and yes he remains a good player, but his history of concussion must surely be a concern for the Bunch? Taking Ladarius Green in round 9 was a definite reach, but may turn out to be value in the long run that is this keeper league. Robinson, Hunter and Ivory were all sound selections, but a kicker in the 12th round, just silliness. Loved the Patriots D/ST selection, the addition of Revis and continued emergence of Chandler Jones is likely to see the Pats a force defensively this year, and the Shaun Hill pick in the second last round could be absolutely inspiring. Draft Grade - B+

Kings of Karlos: This much hyped squad added Garcon to the roster with their first draft selection,an interesting choice considering RGIII's struggles throughout the pre-season and with the addition of DeSean Jackson and continued development of Reed, Garcon is unlikely to get more targets this year than previous years… KOK then went and shocked everyone by selecting Eli Manning - whether he starts in front of later selection Fitzpatrick remains to be seeen, but on the face of it, QB could where KOK struggle again this year despite the presence of fantasy superstar Drew Brees. KOK continued to look to the future with the additions of Sammy Watkins, Carlos Hyde, Brandon Cocks and Terence West - few rookie WR's of RB's do much in their first year, and in a league where you only get to keep 6 players each year, ‘futures' drafting is a complex beast in this format of fantasy football. Clay in the last round was a smart selection, and the Bengals D/ST should again prove to be a much vaunted line-up. Draft Grade - B-

Canuck Warriors: Canuck went in a divergent path to KOK and drafted some of the more seasoned players available, including Maclin at a Jackson less Philladelphia, old boy Freddy Jackson and a recently re-invigorated Moreno who may prove the steal of the draft if he can provide similar returns to last years effort. Cassell becomes a handy QB on the bench for Canuck, Gates and Miller provide sound quality of the TE position, and the 49er's D/ST, a premier defence for the last few years is again a sound choice, though the impact the likely loss of Smith to suspension and Bowman to injury has on them may be profound. Draft Grade - B

Yo Yo Marshawn: The defending Champs kicked of 2014 in the worst possible way by not making it to the draft for rounds 1 and 2! The auto-selection of Floyd was loved, the return on TY to YYM not so much (would have taken Carson Palmer at that selection). From then on, it was a bit of a mixed bag for YYM. Williams is an up-and-comer in a team that should throw a lot and is likely to only ever see man coverage with Dez on the other flank, and a similar theory supported the selection of Wheaton. The selection of Smith could be an inspired selection, or rather idiotic, though the boy did show potential last year. Woodhead should provide solid RB back-up, whilst Anderson and Fleener add depth to a strong that should contend again in 2014. The selection of Bortles is a look to the future, though his impressive pre-season may see him challenge Smith for QB 2 early than expected. Draft Grade - C+

Billy Bass: T RBs kicked on the draft for Billy Bass, with veteran ground and pounder Steven Jackson selected first, followed by the Patriots Stevan Ridley. Colston and Hopkins add depth to the WR corps, and Billy Bass will be hoping rams speedster Tavon Austin makes big steps forward this year, whilst RB's DeAngelo Williams and Bernard Pierce were good value. Pierce in particular may prove to be a great get considering he has a good chance to cement his position in a Rice-less Ravens backfield in the first 4 weeks of the season. Schaub was one of the fe QB's left on the draft board that may get a start early in 2014, and the Rob Ryan coached Saints D/ST, who recently released All-Pro Champ Bailey, are likely to be strong again in 2014. Draft Grade - B

    AFC

Team Simonoz: Alongside Team Stowie, one of the two most creative team names kicked of their redraft with a massive bang, taking Johnny Football as their QB2, and then went big again by taking the Raiders young QB, Derek Carr with their second pick. Their first four rounds were rounded out by stylish rookies Jeremy Hill, Gio Bernards back-up in Cincy, and Mike Evans, the former A&M star reuniting with JF at Team Simonoz. The trend of picking youth with potential continued with Ertz, who is likely to see an increase in targets with Jackson now at Washington, Kelvin Benjamin, who may quickly become Scam Newtons go-to-guy, and Kelce, who has looked good over the pre-season in KC. Taking the 2nd rank Broncos D/ST and a couple of other speculative picks rounded out a strong draft for Team Simonoz. This team needed some serious upgrades, and whilst they may not come to fruition this year, his drafting strategy this year is a likely strong foundation for the years ahead. Draft Grade - A-

Waito's Warriors: After a spirited, but unsuccessful title defence, Waito's Warriors begun 2014 with a very strong draft that mixed the recruitment of depth and youth to what is already a strong roster. The QB position, an area of weakness previously, was attended to initially with Joe Flacco coming on board, and Teddy Bridgewater added later in a look to the future. Flacco was very ordinary this year, but a new Offensive co-ordinator, a fit Pitta and the angry little man that is Steve Smith could see him become fantasy relevant this year. Ingram, Boldin and Smith add depth at RB and WR, and linking Flacco with his new WR was a tidy move. Carlos Hyde, Knile Davis and Alfred Blue are all behind Gore, Charles and Foster respectively on their teams depth chart, but all are ageing or have had limited pre-seasons and these back-ups are as good as bet as any to emerge when/if given an opportunity. The Ebron pick is a back-up to Jordan Cameron, but may breakout in 2014. Picking up the top rated Panthers D/ST cemented this as an excellent draft for the Warriors. Draft Grade - A+

Jimbo's Juggernaught: Sadly, Jimbo was unable to grace the draft with his presence and received a mixed bag, though mostly declining veterans, including two ageing stars in Vernon Davis and Reggie Wayne in the first two rounds, followed by the sneaky selection of Kendall Wright in the 3rd round. Decker and Jennings will add good depth, as will Sproles and Ivory to the RBs, Donald Brown received a nice contract from the Chargers, but his relevance here is questionable, whilst the Bills selection may be one of the tougher selections to swallow for Jimbo. Considering it was on auto-draft, things could have been much worse. Draft Grade - C-

The Jug-O-Naughts: Pick one in the redraft, and the Jug-O-Naughts would have surprised few with the selection of The Inconvenient Truth, and then added the Bronco's new WR Sanders, one of Flacco's favourite targets, Dennis Pitta, and speedster Wallace to significantly strengthen the O-Naughts. The Chad Henne pick though was a bit on the disgusting side of things - not sure what the manager saw in the pre-season in Henne, but it must have been different to what I saw… A few players that we may have seen the best of in McFadden, Nicks and Bowe were next to be added, and may defy age and conventional wisdom and come up big in 2014, but Hawkins was a good selection if he can develop a strong relationship with Johnny Football (or Hoyer I guess….). Draft Grade - B+

So Long Mr Wallace: The first two rounds took a couple of the few likely starting RBs available in the draft in Ben Tate and rookie Bishop Sankey, though Tate's injury history and Sankey's youth must surely be a worry for SLMW. Finding a back-up for EJ Manuel was taken care of with their third selection, taking last year's Bears fill-in and current Bucs starter McCown, and then adding depth became a focus. Pierre Thomas and Shonn Greene do just that at RB, Christine Micheal is the man in waiting should Skittles fall over, and Shorts, Walker and Boykin similarly add depth to positions SLMW has superstar starters in already. The Texans D/ST isn't the most highly rated unit, but with Watt and Clowney rushing the passes, they sure will be fun to cheer along. Draft Grade - A-

Team Stowie: In the words of The Talented Mr Roto, love my some Ellington, a great start to a draft full of promise for Stowie. Carson Palmer and Jake Locker as 2 of the next 3 selections shore the QB position, whilst Miller may usurp Julius Thomas in the flex spot if he can hold out Moreno in Miami. Randle could be a useful play on a week to week basis if Eli can actually hit a target, and Williams, Dunbar and Dwyer add unfashionable depth (see, very little of anything) to the Stowie backfield, but all were relatively underwhelming selections. The Chiefs D/ST should again be one of the better units going around. Draft Grade - B+
