[span style='color: #ff0000;]Post pre-season draft wrap-up. The 2014 PSD draft has officially ended and we would like to welcome 6 new players to the home of the Wombats. 1. Dom Sheed, #11, MID. Our first round pick wasn't an easy one to make with a number of quality players available. But Dom has almost the full package, being well built and makes great decisions while using it well on both feet. Dom will start in the Wagga Wagga reserves and will struggle to crack into the 1sts team, but will play a major role in years to come. 2. Ben Lennon, #13, FWD. With our 2nd 1st-round pick we decided to ensure our forward line remains young enough to cope in the future. The addition of Ben will provide great coverage when needed. He has a great overhead mark and just gets the job done. Another one who will start in the reserves and won't be looking at too many senior games in 2014. 3. Viv Michie, #21, MID. We rare this player very highly, and are stoked he is now a Wombat. He is now at a mature-age (22) and after an injury riddled end to 2013, he is now fit and raring to go. He is a smart decision-maker and has great composure. He won't play round 1, however will push for a senior birth throughout the year. 4. Brodie Martin, #63, DEF. With a number of defenders getting towards the twilight of their career, we realised the importance for a middle-aged defender. He's been hurt by injuries but is currently fit and provides plenty of speed off a half-back/wing. With a couple of injuries down back he is a chance to play round 1. 5. Jarman Impey, #65, FWD. Another young forward was necessary in our squad, and this highly talented young kid couldn't be overlooked at this stage in the draft. He provides future security and will play most games in the 2s this year. 6. Scott Lycett, #76, RUC. Our last pick in the draft was one which was picked based on the fact that Dean Cox is our lonesome ruckman with Vardy out injured for the season. In the scenario Cox is unavailable, we hope Lycett can step-up and fill the void. He has strong potential and is still just 21 y/o, so he will be a big part of our future side. The opening to our 2014 campaign couldn't have gone too much better. The lads put in a very strong pre-season and couldn't wait to get out there, which was shown in our fight to win the ball through Watson, Swallow and Prestia who all had a day out. The forward line was also very good with Schulz and Thomas getting amongst the goals, whilst the defense was also very solid in an all round consistent performance.

Despite a comfortable loss to a great side, our players learnt plenty from this encounter. Our midfield was once again very good at winning the contested ball with Watson, Swallow and Prestia all continuing their great form. Our problem was our inability of our forward line to capitalise on oppurtunities and we also lacked composure at times. The polish of Iron's Knob midfielders proved too strong which showed in the end scoreline.

I/C: Macmillan (30), Kerridge (37) (King) While it clearly wasn't our best performance this season, we really wanted the 4 points and that's what we got which now sees us looking to push into the top 4 early in the season. Our midfield hasn't missed a beat all season, with Watson, Swallow and Prestia all in fine form. It was pleasing to see Buddy kick a few and have a big impact on the game. He seems to have found his confidence and should prove a worthy pick-up to the Wombats this year. We still need to find consistency up forward and our depth has been tested but so far we are happy with proceedings and look to get on a winning streak, starting with the Lefties next week. A scrappy game against a Lefties sides hurt by form and injury, the Wombats managed to walk away with the 4 points. Yet another poor week from Lindsay Thomas sees him set to be dropped next week. Jenkins returned and brought good form along with him, whilst Watson and Swallow both continued their superior form. 3-1 to start the year and we look to push into the top 4 next week.

Our weakest effort thus far for the season saw us scrape over the line by just 9 points. It came right down to the wire in what had the fans out of their seats, but Taylor Hunt and Blicavs couldn't get the Packers over the line. Buddy had a good week in a bid to forget last week's nightmare, while David Swallow hasn't missed a beat all year.

Poor team selections meant we were a man down with Macmillan not turning up and Lindsay Thomas was playing reserves, meaning a donut could have easily been avoided. Nonetheless, we are ecstatic to walk away from this clash with the 4 points. Watson and Prestia continued on their merry way, while Dunn and Swallow lead an outstanding effort from the 4 backmen. Simply a week to forget for the Wombats, who were well down on form and Darraweit Guim wasn't about to let us off the hook. Our key defenders were smashed and our midfielders couldn't get the hard ball. Experienced forward Jay Schulz the only won to crack the ton. Mid season break is upon us and we will need to re-assess where we're at and bounce back strongly after our time off.

The mid-season break saw Wagga Wagga make 3 de listings and therefore welcome three new players. We were also involved in two trades. Our de listings included Brodie Martin and Jake King and added Kurt Aylett and Arryn Siposs. In trade news, we said goodbye to Sam Kerridge, Sam Mayes and Viv Michie, and picked up Nick Malceski, Shaun Higgins and Jasper Pittard. We figured we are pretty well set long-term but needed some short-term firepower to push overselves the best we can in the next few years.
The first game back from the break proved to be the best in Wagga Wagga's history, posting 1489 in a convincing victory. New recruits Malceski (144) and Higgins (104) were superb in their news colours in what was an all-round great performance. Bastinac hitting form means there will need to be some tough calls at the selection table next week.

It didn't take long for us to realise we simply didn't come switched on. We coasted thinking our demolition of the previous week would account for an easy one this week. How wrong we were, and we paid the full price. Lynden Dunn almost dragged the team over the line for a win with a dominant display, but a big match-review is needed to ensure this was a one-off performance.

Something needed to change after last week and our players responded with big scores across all lines. Lycett was superb in replace of the rested Cox, while Dunn once again delivered the goods. A much needed win to keep in touch with the top 4. Consistency still remains the issue. Best and Fairest Votes 3. Dunn
    2. Franklin
    1. Prestia
