wow, great to be home after freezing our extremities off in the frozen south. Sorry if we seemed inhospitable X but the barman who did not want to give Mitch a cold beer because he still had his guernsey on after scoring 161 was way out of line. Sort it out, soup only after a game is a disgrace - even if it is potato soup. :D

BTW, what was the score? Coach had to admit an expensive cock up - forgot to field Bootsma (71 points) and took half Isaac Smith's score (30 points). Was very pleased to be on a chopper with the other officials rather than some of the players. Fortunately, the promise of trout fishing and pig hunting was enough to settle even the most stroppy down (you know who you are - get fit and take it out on this week's pansies instead of me!).

Charlie's angles this week - good luck. Team Wailik is starting to fire.

The name reminds me of the Private Eye one liner: Roddy Llewellyn - actor; best known for having a small part in Charlie's Aunt. ;)

Looking forward to it, provided we can find the place. :D

And I have had no choice but to be calm [read: undisturbed and motionless] since then... but the only thing clear to me is this throbbing headache!

    Scandal surrounds football match

Charlie's Openings rivalry with Waikickamoocow has endured numerous twists and turns but nothing in its long turbulent history has, matched the drama that started at 1 o'clock yesterday morning in the Marriott Hotel at Ekatahuna. It was worthy of a Hercule Poirot mystery.

At that moment, 10 first-team Spelunker players, including their ruckman, Matthew Kreuzer, and vice captain Andrew Swallow were violently sick with food poisioning. For hours it seemed that the Opening were not even sure they could field a side. Indeed, when I arrived at the ground at 1.30pm, Phil Davis was heard telling the cheer squad captain: "We will have to field 10, have you got your boots?"

The previous night had begun so well. The Spelunkers, long the underachievers of north Tasmania, were ahead of Waikickamoocow and had a good run of form to bring them into the game. A win at Ekatahuna and there was nothing Waikickamoocow could do to prevent The Spelunkers claiming the moral high ground.

As is custom for away matches, the The Spelunkers players spent the night before the match at the Marriott, gathering around 7 o'clock on Saturday night. Curiously, the neighbouring Four Seasons is used by Waikickamoocow. A buffet dinner was laid out in a specially booked room with raw eel as requested by the visiting team and Kreuzer was feeling particularly happy. Many of the players who had been carrying knocks were now fit.

The Marriott, a five-star hotel, is proud of its cuisine. It claims to "satisfy the most discerning palates with its fresh approach" and the players made the most of the buffet, a lot of them having the specialty dish of eel.

Then, from about 1am, virtually The Spelunkers's entire team were violently sick: Davis, Kreuzer, Hooker, Grant, Clarke, Petrie, Jaensch, MacKenzie, Montagna and Stringer. Kreuzer, the most ill, was hardly able to walk.

One suggestion was a postponement until 7pm. Bandit felt that the extra four hours would enable some of his players, in particular Kreuzer and Hooker, to get some sleep and then have enough fluids to last 120 minutes of a match. By now it was midday, however, and the pubs around Ekatahuna were full of Incorrigible fans celebrating their own fantastic season and the police feared what seven hours of drinking would do. The police would accept a postponement until 4pm, but Bandit could do nothing with an extra two hours.

So it was decided the match would start at 2pm, and at about 1.30 the Spelunkers bus pulled into the stadium. To add to their trauma, Heath Shaw was home at The Pit and it was from this bastion of The Spelunkers's fanbase that he tweeted that he could not possibly eat another pie.In this unprecedented situation, it was entirely understandable that many The Spelunkers supporters were freely speculating that the hated enemy Waikickamoocow were to blame - unable to countenance the idea of the Incorrigibles taking the points

As State of Origin coach Terry and his rumoured new partner, Chelsea Roffey, arrived for one last look at the young The Spelunkers hopefuls, totally unaware of events, nobody was sure what team Bandit would put out. In the event, there was a 15 named, with three subs, although all of them had food poisoning as well. Just before the first bounce however Matthew Kreuzer tossed his cookies over the umpire, and had to leave the ground, leaving the Spelunkers with no ruckman for the game.

Within five minutes, Ekatahuna was singing "Goal to Waikickamoocow". Five minutes later the Spelunkers supporters started cheering as their team responded. Barely had The Spelunkers stemmed the bleeding when Ekatahuna erupted with a goal frenzy.

The second half saw Waikickamoocow in much finer voice as they saw their team dominate a Spelunkers team visibly wilting. Swallow left on the hour. Bandit made other changes but one Spelunkers player refused to leave. Kieren Jack's number was held up in high regard, as he would not let the dream go. When it was all over, he walked to the Spelunkers cheer squad and tossed his shirt to the crowd. When Bandit visted the dressing room, he found many of the players in tears.

At the begining of the season, a place like Ekatahuna would have been a triumph for The Spelunkers; now, defeat after a night of food poisoning was as painful as it was mysterious as the old enemy seized the huge prize.

    Pathetic, get a grip Bandit.

Suffice to say the Waikiks are hugely looking forward to the trip to the famed Marble Bar. Selection decisions abound. Just who do we leave out of a team that is flying.

Sammy Shaw, Matt McGuire, Jack Ziebell, Aaron Edwards, Ben Warren, Adam Kennedy and Liam Sumner get a rest as a result of the bye round. However, only three of the the outs have been regulars.

So the team will be chosen from:
    Ah Chee, Brendon
    Armstrong, Tony
    Bellchambers, Tom
    Bootsma, Joshua
    Chaplin, Troy
    Docherty, Sam
    Dyson, Ricky
    HANNEBERY, Daniel
    HIBBERD, Michael
    Jacobs, Sam
    Lonergan, Sam
    McVeigh, Jarrad
    Mitchell, Sam
    Mitchell, Tom
    PODSIADLY, James
    ROBINSON, Mitch
    SMITH, Isaac
    Taylor, Harry
    Westhoff, Justin

I was out strolling around the Fremantle Farmers Market on Sunday and saw that you have diversified.
Is it for marketing, or money making, Chels?

ah the WA venture ant - we have a diversified portfolio of investments. I am guessing your surprise was quickly replaced with a smile at the all encompassing power of TS (and ORFFA, we have definitely put one across the other league)!

I think you have to upload the pic from your camera or phone; but how to do that? Tech help needed.

Serves you right for putting up in a swank hotel.
According to Peter Larkins it had more to do with sudden exposure to sunlight and, in some isolated cases, soap, than anything to do with food poisoning.

Ok, here we go... found out how to post the pics Chels.

I was quite surprised to see that your team had branched out to this type of thing - especially in WA.
Although raising the profile of your brand over here may get you a few more supporters at your games against Marble Bar.

It has turned a little nippy around Ekatahuna. The mountains are quite close and look good with the snow, but the breeze is a little frigid. The first pic is of Mt Ruapehu from behind the changing sheds at our Ekatahuna home ground.

We have moved into the new lodgings - an idea the GWS have adopted after Sheeds came over for a few beers. The Chateau Tongariro has been funded by the WA ice cream venture. Please let me know if you would rather stay there than at a fishing lodge.

Recent volcanic activity has meant I am currently scouting locations on the Sunshine Coast as alternatives. The natives have been most friendly and there is talk of Becks being available on the coast soon.

Must away and get the game plan organised for the Marble Bar trip.

I didn't realise you were playing Marble Bar this week. No wonder you've been wooing enemy supporters with ice cream.
Good to hear it's also been able to fund your relocation :)
