With the mid season trading session coming up you really should seriously consider trading with 'honest chels, the ORFFA's friendliest and fairest coach' (TM applied for).
The incomparable Paul Kelly has agreed to join the Incorrigibles travelling party for their away game at Foul Bay. The team will be kicking back and providing background vocals from the rear section of the bus. The recovery group (which will probably be joined by Nat Fyfe after his ridiculous citing) have a buzz going with their harmonies on 'Making Gravy' a real treat. A bit of disharmony though with the Swannies' contingent unhappy about 'From St Kilda to Kings Cross' being greeted so warmly by the Vics. Rehearsals of 'Leaps and Bounds' are proving to be very popular with the locals at the bowling club. However, some say chels's relish for the chorus and his improvised background vocals on 'Every Fucking City' is down right embarrassing. The great man is having to suppress a wry smile at how his lyrics have been interpreted but he is apparently impressed with the volume and gusto our coach is providing. Strangely, there does not seem to be a lot of interest ](actually none)from the entrepreneurial sector at booking Paul Kelly and the Waikicks.
What a buzz around the club - you would almost think we won the 'Shoot Out at Foul Bay.' Guys like Ben Griffiths, Matty Wright and Jamie Elliott put their hands up big time in the absence of normal starting players Nat Fyfe (suspended, back for the Iron Knob game), Brad Crouch (broken leg, back after the MSD), Jack Ziebell (should injury, back for Iron Knob) and Sam Shaw (hand injury, back for Iron Knob). Coach chels pulled a master stroke by moving Macca back into the midfield to cover for Fyfe and playing Griffiths down back. The big Tiger responded to this show of faith with a career high 122. Now it is time to get the feet on the ground with a game against the Misfits. It will be interesting to see who plays this week with possible first games for ]George Burbury andDarcy Gardiner, and first starts of the year for Nick Graham and Luke Russell. A great time to be a Waikick supporter! Join up now and stand alongside luminaries like Paul Kelly on the pitch and in the clubhouse. You know it makes sense. P.S. - 1. Tickets are selling fast for our celebration of Demetriou's departure ]entitled 'It can't come soon enough.' Itis a costume party where you come dressed as a person or club who might feel they have been wronged during Demetriou's reign. Entry is limited to 100,000 tickets at $NZ 100 each. [span class='Apple-tab-span' style='white-space: pre;] -2. Rumours abound of a major new sponsor coming on board for the Waikicks soon. Correct guesses win a free membership for 2014, the year of the premiership push.
There is a nip in the air at training as winter's precursor chills the air. A few players are (rightly) nervous about their future at the franchise. The Match Committee posted this message in the players lounge - aka, the bowling Club bar - where the motto is 'take a hit at Bulls.' <p style='margin-left: 120px;]Mid Season Trading The Club is looking to: <ul> <li>1. build its back division with the addition of a young, fit, skilful, playing defender. A playing forward with a similar or higher SC average is available to make such a trade happen;</li> <li>2. some (in our opinion) under-performing defenders are on notice. Young players, in any position, who have talent will prise these guys away;</li> </ul> 3. Early 2014 MSD and 2015 PSD picks are valuable to us and will be seriously considered for players not currently in our first team.' The moral of the story is we are on the look out for fair trades. If you have a shortage in a position and we are strong there please make contact. My trading history indicates that when a trade appeals to me I will make it happen. The most recent evidence for that assertion is Hickey and a downgrade of PSD picks traded out for Dal Santo - the epitome of a win / win deal.
In what may well be the best way to attract the attention of the selectors Tom Mitchell put his hand up in the magoos this week. ' <div style='color: #2e2e2e; background-color: #ffffff;]A RECORD-breaking 64-disposal, four-goal effort in the NEAFL has Sydney Swans midfielder Tom Mitchell on the verge of a senior recall when his side takes on Geelong in round 11. Mitchell lost his place in the senior side following the Swans' 43-point loss to North Melbourne in round four but has well and truly put himself in contention to return to the team after an incredible display on Sunday. <div style='color: #2e2e2e; background-color: #ffffff;] <p style='color: #2e2e2e; background-color: #ffffff;]His disposal tally of 64 (23 contested, 41 uncontested) is the highest ever recorded by Champion Data in a state league or under-18 competition since the company began recording statistics in the TAC Cup in 2006. The 20-year-old's stats sheet consisted of 28 kicks, 36 handballs, four goals, five tackles, 14 marks, 12 clearances, 27 handball receives and 16 hardball gets. That equated to a total of 243 AFL Fantasy points as his Sydney Swans reserves smashed Eastlake by 131 points at Startrack Oval in Canberra.' <p style='color: #2e2e2e; background-color: #ffffff;] <p style='color: #2e2e2e; background-color: #ffffff;]Not sure what that equates to in SC but I would take it. Welcome back Tom, all is forgiven.
Apparently his AFL Fantasy score was 265 or something Chels. Not sure what it would be in Supercoach, but 200+ at the minimum I'd say.
5 Swans had more than 30 disposals. TMitch had his 64, Biggs had 42, and ROK had 38. ROK also had 13 tackles, for 168 DT pts. It was a massive win, 156 to 25. Whoever did well in the 1st q would have got a big share of the SC pie. Champ Data would have calculated SC scores, so it may be publicly available somewhere.
Was easy to find. I prob should have checked first. 64 possessions (24 contested, 40 uncontested &mdash; 50 effective) 28 kicks 36 handballs 27 handball receives 16 hardball gets 14 marks 12 clearances 14 inside 50s 5 tackles 4 goals 22 score involvements 4 score assists SuperCoach points = 269 points
I think Andy Krakouer still holds the record, with 290 SC pts for his 40 pos game in the 2010 WAFL grand final.
[span style='padding: 0cm; border: 1pt none windowtext; color: black;]There is a spring in the air at training even though winter has officially&rdquo;(wtf is it with an official&rdquo; period of winter rather than it being bloody cold?) started. The four new recruits have settled in well with Cam Pedersen starting immediately and pumping out a century in his first turn at bat. Mason Wood looks good and must have been stiff not to get a start in WA - BTW, NDS and Jack Z were influential in his recruitment. DBJ (Darcy Byrne-Jones) has blown everyone away with his speed off the half back flank and Jarryn Geary has piled into the work necessary to get back on track after elbow surgery; the medics say he could be ready in round 19 but the match committee, in a first for the franchise, is being a little more conservative. The Winter Solstice round was deserving of a short note. Able to only field 15 players (most of) the Incorrigibles responded well to the recent adoption by[span style='background: #ffffff;]the Clubof the FIFO* approach to player management. Although there are a number of rounds to go we have already identified some players who do not seem to 'fit in' and hence are unlikely to be calling Waikikamoocow home next year. No names but Ben and Stewart have probably surmised that they are top of that list - lift your games boys and all will be forgiven. As the days lengthen (apparently by approximately one second per day) it seems the injury / suspension list might just be shortening. Possible 'ins' this week include Ben Crouch, Harry Taylor, Dawson Simpson and Tom Mitchell while Dan Hannebery is around three weeks away In very heartening news Chris Knights and Jarryn Geary might just get on the field this season. The Selection Committee look forward to having to do some selecting rather than simply listing the players who are available. * FIFO player management is defined as 'fit in or f... off.' Note: it is not to confused with the Accounting inventory valuation method of 'first in first out.'
There is a bit of a buzz in the air as the club gets set to take part in its second finals series - although it is a bit rich to call last year's single game a series. Senior management have made it clear to coach chels that more success is a key to keeping his job. We are pretty sure who our opponents will be but are concentrating on the well worn mantra of 'it is our performance that matters.' After having to play big Hamish Mc out of position in the last game of the home and away round there is some encouraging news amongst the recovering forwards with anticipation that TMitch, Chris Knights and the JPod may all be available for selection. Congratulations to Sauce for winning the ruck section of the Les W Medal, with a typically strong performance at the weekend. The home crowd enjoyed the Sauce taps to Brad C who kicks to Matty Wright sequences. Put the JPod on the end of the sequence and points just might flow. Similarly, we look forward to the Dan Hann wins the hard ball contest , hand balls to Macca who kicks to TMitch inside 50 who takes a contested mark and goals type sequences. Sorry, the new drugs I am on are producing some very vivid hallucinations. Best of luck to all the finalists, but a little more luck to the boys representing Waikikamoocow.
The Match Committee has again put chels on notice - Ziebell as E in the semi-final yet another in a saga of poor selection decisions. I will probably hold onto my job as the cupboard is purposely pretty bare in the managerial stakes. I will try to manage the end of year clean out as well as I can. [span style='color: #00b050;]In a stunning example of player power the senior members of the squad have united to say 'Harry will stay or we won't play.' This accompanied by a chant of 'you don't know what your doing.' Well, to show that I do not what I am doing Harry has a new contract and is off the trade bait list. Congrats Harry, well done - tug of the forelock, kowtow etc. Franchise players who are already contracted for 2015 and onwards ([span style='color: #00b050;]14) McVeigh, Dal Santo, Hibberd, [span style='color: #00b050;]H Taylor, Fyfe, Hannebery, B Crouch, I Smith, Ziebell, S Jacobs, H McIntosh, T Mitchell, J Elliott, M Wright. Players I am happy to retain ([span style='color: #00b050;]5) - but an offer of a player I covet or an early draft pick will likely secure Duffield, J Geary, B Griffiths, Pedersen, M Robinson. Rookies / project players (4) who will not be leaving unless a silly offer is received - again a player I covet or an early draft pick Darcy-Byrne, N Graham, Perris, M Wood. Already packed up and ready to go (5) - will accept a rookie / project player or a draft pick in exchange [span style='background: #ffffff;]D Simpson, C Sinclair, Crameri, Podsiadly, C Knights. [span style='background: #ffffff;] [span style='background: #ffffff;] [span style='background: #ffffff;]There are some very good players available because they do not necessarily meet the profile of Waikick 2015 - do not be surprised if, when the trading period opens I contact you to describe what I think is a fair offer for one of your players. And please do not be shy about approaching me! [span style='background: #ffffff;] [span style='background: #ffffff;]Notwithstanding the above, the old bloke reserves the right to change his mind if circumstances change as a result of confirmed trades or position changes in SC.
Congratulations to Mason Wood on being selected for his first AFL game - really looking forward to seeing him perform. There is a delicious irony that two week after he was really needed by the Waikicks, north finally get round to giving him his long awaited, much heralded debut.
The club's directors have placed their faith in me again - albeit with some conditions. Make the top six while re-building. New players Ryan Harwood - an emerging, rebounding defender in the strengthened Lions side. He will miss the first few weeks of the home and away series with an injury. Jeremy McGovern - helps to further rebuild what was an ageing backline. DPP may prove useful. Martin Gleeson - a couple of pre-seasons behind him and showing good signs in a midfield, rebounding role. He became even more important with the untimely injury suffered by Brad Crouch. Toby McLean - came from nowhere to be invited to the draft combine and then went at #26 in the 2014 National draft. Some say that based on the way he plays he is Jamie Elliott's younger brother. Nic Newman - strong scent of the Michael Hibberd's about Nic. Left footer from Frankston who won the 2014 Fothergill Medal. Horse said after he was taken by Sydney in the rookie draft targeted from our end with the hole that Nick Malceski obviously vacated going to the Gold Coast Suns.' That works for us. Currently injured, but his return to the track is eagerly awaited. Reilly O'Brien - we have a history of holding an above average number of ruck men. Ticks a lot of boxes for us as he had a strong NAB series, is a potential understudy to Sauce, and has R/F status. Reece McKenzie - a player who embodies our new philosophy. We would rather pick a player with a 5% chance of becoming elite than one with a 100% chance of being ordinary. A key forward with a difference, defences will struggle against rampaging Reece. Released players Isaac Smith and Jack Ziebell were foundation players at the club who were hard to part with. Good luck at your new homes. James Podsiadly and Cam Pedersen were both good for us but age is starting to catch up. Darcy Byrne-Jones failed to make an impact. Lloyd Perris we really wanted to hold as he has amazing ability, but he keeps getting injured. We will re-draft him should the opportunity arise. Club History 2014: 3rd in the home and away series, knocked out in the semi-finals 2013: 2nd in the home and away series, knocked out in the quarter finals 2012: 15th in the home and away series
Nic Newman - strong scent from our end with the hole. /Portals/0/User%20Images/10346284_10152771403223929_1148959079811311200_n.jpg
