It does Per the OP Auction rules: 2. All players or picks being auctioned cannot be pulled before that day/time. Read more at http://tooserious.net/forum/threads/2016-pre-season-auction-thread.89255/#2ykmolyisjFdRRe7.99 It also affects a bid made after yours, so doubly troubling
Clearly as stated this refers to the asset being auctioned and not the bid, I did think we had agreed that accepted bids couldn't be withdrawn, though it's not stated as such. A re-write may be in order. In this case though the problem for me is one player has caused another to raise their bid quite directly, regardless of whom the players involved were that's perfectly legit, but the bid really shouldn't be conditionally withdrawn once that has happened, it causes "complications"? Again, in this case it has clearly driven up a price that was then left artificially inflated, the original bid did not include those conditions I believe, though I may be mistaken.
Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the outcome here, the bid is withdrawn when beaten by default, but it also would have been accepted by default were it a more friendly sNoZ time of day. The issue is more around can bids be conditional, for me the answer should be no.
I have been advised that the bid above is subject to confirmation by the bidder, who just needs to double check something. Until that confirmation arrives, I'll consider the bid as "pending" and continue the auction as if no bids have yet been received. If/when this bid is confirmed, I'll state if it has met reserve (though anoother bid may meet reserve in the meantime).
this is illustrative of the level of confusion I was alluding to. 2 new rules to be added to the auction thread, now..
These are fundamentally ridiculous outcomes. No one can go to Sotheby's and bid, conditional on them winning the next race at Ascot, nor can they stick their hand up and later state "tricking".
Len - it was completely my fault. As you guys slept, I put a bid up for Chris's pick #20. Within an hour I remembered I still had McCarthy out there for auction (ok, so maybe I'd had a few beers), and I'm not in a position to lose both he & CC. I thought about deleting the post as no one had seen it, but instead emailed Chris & explained the situation that I'd get back to him in the morning - which I just did. So yes, I'd like to withdraw my bid for #20. Chris did reply to me that 'that's ok' but I will turn this over to you Len to decide upon. Note that I did not offer anything I don't already have, I own all three components of the bid - it was strictly dumb snoz list management.
I am happy for you to resolve it as described mate, I wasn't trying to target anyone, just illustrate potential outcomes, I've added a couple of very simple rules to the OP which I think we probably all thought either were or should have been in play anyway. They certainly eliminate a large grey issue at least
Sorry if I added to the confusion. I just wanted to ensure that everything was transparent and cards face up on the table. The auction for pick 20 remains open until 6pm this evening.
And with that, the auction ends. If anyone wishes to chat about pick 20 or other things, drop me a line.
Bandit must've seen the Dogs intra squad scrimmage Friday - his #43 beats Len's #50 for Honeychurch so far. Tracey leading the auction for Sunshine McCarthy with pick #31 & Bandit still has Oxley with his offer of Heath Grundy. One day left in all three auctions...................
This is closed now Im surprised he was not bid on. He is not delist worthy, so worth a shot imo... Feel free to send me a message if interested.
More I think about it, the more I am not a fan of the auction process (generally). This is as someone who has put people up for bid in the past. Just think that there ends up with a lot of grey area and 'half' bids due in part to people having their fingers in simultaneous pies (waiting for obligatory picture of something being done to a pie in the comments that follow) and things can get messy. My preference (and I know I will be in the minority) is that we just go back to the 'old fashioned' if you want to deal, talk to a fellow coach (or two) and get something sorted. Part of me thinks that the auction is the lazy way of getting deals done. I'm not one for lazy.
A bit short Ant. I'm not being definitive in the reserve but suffice to say you're a good 15 - 20 picks off the mark. Thanks for starting it off though.
I can see the good and the bad in auctions Chief. I do agree with some of what you say ... there can be a bit of confusion when it comes to deals if people bidding are also looking at other options with other teams. Personally I can rarely manage to have multiple trade discussions on the go - I lose the thread of them!
All three auctions have closed............ 1. The Packers pick up my man Cam Sunshine McCarthy for PSD pick #31. I will also send back to the Packers PSD #55. 2. The Spelunkers pick up Mitch Honeychurch from the Hops for PSD #43 & Hopper Adam Oxley in exchange for Heath Grundy straight up. Thanks to all.......Bandit, look after my two boys
