The pre-season is almost over and we await announcement of the Carlton vs Richmond sides on Wednesday night and 22/25 man sides for the rest on Thursday night.

7 man interchanges for Sunday squads are normally officially cut by 5pm Friday, although for Round 1 there are often Round 1 debutant stories on afl.com.au and club websites.
    -----
Here is a table of the most popular SC rookie options (including floating donuts) by position and game sequence up to and including David Swallow at $280k, with their JLT stats (games, avg, tog avg), ownership % per SC Gold as of Sunday night and page # in the 2017 prospectus.

    rookies.png
Note Mountford (2 JLT games, average 60 from 51% TOG, prospectus page 261) for NM and Joel Smith (2, 64, 76%, page 248) for Melbourne have been named as debuting but are not included in the above table.

Feel free to comment or pose questions below as teams drop or if you are aware of the all important rookie elevations which signal which rookie listed players are in the frame for Round 1

and remember that Rate my team advice can be sought at http://tooserious.net/forum/threads/rate-my-team-2017.89779/

Good luck as you make your last minute Round 1 decisions peeps !

Im wary of picking SPS after no preseason.

Its not always a good idea to pick rookies from the Thursday night game just because they are named. Relton Roberts taught us that important lesson a few years back :)

SPS sounds like he'll be a great player, but im not gonna take the risk on him. I should also admit thats because ive got a lot of other risky types in my team at present.

For me to do it I would need to downgrade Jaeger probably. This would give me the cash to upgrade houston to taranto.
      UP: SPS and Taranto
      Down: Jaeger and Houston/Butler

Maybe roughly the same points but more cash generated with the Expensive rookie pair?

Jaeger and Butler would be the much better option

Prospectus largely positive without shooting the moon on him, here is what Emma had to say (C@P > Typing)

      Midfielder
      Height: 180cm
      Weight: 73kg

Petrevski-Seton needs only a second and a small amount of space to make something happen. He goes after the ball, he's willing to take a hit or lay a tackle and he can twist or turn his back on opponents in order to create space, or sidestep them and do it that way. Both those things, and his cleanness and ability to use both feet makes him a very good player around the contest. So does his toughness.

On the flip side, very few rookies get picked in round 1 without playing a preseason game. Lewy Taylor and Angus Brayshaw are the only ones that immediately spring to mind and they played 22 and 21 games respectively in their rookie seasons. To me it shows the coach rates him and could be a possible guide to his JS? High draft picks in crap sides tend to get a decent run.

That being said, he's not currently in my team. :)

Late change @CarltonFC tonight - Harrison Macreadie was told this morning he will be a late inclusion for his AFL debut on the big stage.

Not 100% sold on his fantasy relevance but a kid the giants invested a lot in and than unexpectedly failed to match on.
He is in my team atm, but largely due to lack of known options.
Marchbank a far more fantasy relevant style of player, Macreadie has played more of a stopping role and much less intercept when I've seen him play

Very interesting, I reckon the kid has major upside, worth considering if others miss the cut

So I currently have Butler and Pickett in my team and on the bench. Should I move them onto the ground to be safe, in case other rookies don't get named? Thumbs up for leave them on the bench, thumbs down to move them onto the ground. Cheers.

I think I'll be leaving one on field one off just to be safe. If the worst case scenario happens we made need all the Emergencies we can use!

NORTH Melbourne will unveil four first-gamers and two club debutants against West Coast on Sunday as it boldly embarks on a new era.

Jy Simpkin, pick No.12 in last year's NAB AFL Draft, ruck revelation Braydon Preuss and 2015 draftees Mitch Hibberd and Declan Mountford will make their AFL debuts against the Eagles, while former Bulldog Nathan Hrovat and ex-Magpie Marley Williams will play their first games in North colours.

So looks like Mountford is in because Ben Jacobs is injured with a broken foot. JS questionable.

Concerned about Gawn not rucking solo and not having Marchbank.

Thumps Up: Gawn + Def Rookie

      Thumbs Down: Grundy + Marchbank

      Halp!
