The pre-season is almost over and we await announcement of the Carlton vs Richmond sides on Wednesday night and 22/25 man sides for the rest on Thursday night.

7 man interchanges for Sunday squads are normally officially cut by 5pm Friday, although for Round 1 there are often Round 1 debutant stories on afl.com.au and club websites.
    -----
Here is a table of the most popular SC rookie options (including floating donuts) by position and game sequence up to and including David Swallow at $280k, with their JLT stats (games, avg, tog avg), ownership % per SC Gold as of Sunday night and page # in the 2017 prospectus.

    rookies.png
Note Mountford (2 JLT games, average 60 from 51% TOG, prospectus page 261) for NM and Joel Smith (2, 64, 76%, page 248) for Melbourne have been named as debuting but are not included in the above table.

Feel free to comment or pose questions below as teams drop or if you are aware of the all important rookie elevations which signal which rookie listed players are in the frame for Round 1

and remember that Rate my team advice can be sought at http://tooserious.net/forum/threads/rate-my-team-2017.89779/

Good luck as you make your last minute Round 1 decisions peeps !

Personally I think Gawn will score well regardless of other personnel and you can always correct the rookie if they end up being sub-par, worst case for Grundy/Marchbank is you end up with 2 bad picks. Go that way if you think Grundy will go close to matching Gawn but not just because you are trying to save coin.

      SUNS DRAFTEES TO DEBUT
GOLD Coast coach Rodney Eade has just confirmed two of the club's four top-10 draftees from last year will make their debuts in the QClash on Saturday night.
No.4 pick Ben Ainsworth will play his first game for the Suns, as will academy pick and No.10 selection Jack Bowes.

Can't wait for the season. For those who know already I send a daily email re NBA predictions which has been able to provide a bit of value for the punting fraternity. I do the same for FL. I've copied this weeks email below but if you'd like to be added to the email list just send me a request at thesportsturkey@gmail.com.

Let’s get started with the season prediction first. Drum roll please, the 2017 AFL Ladder will look like this:
      upload_2017-3-23_13-24-39.png

Obviously, I am a gambling turkey so I’ve added the over unders with the green highlights indicating the best value. Just remember, it’s an indication. Tell me if you agree of disagree. Jump on the Facebook page and let it rip

The big ones are that it appears that Fremantle, Port and Gold Coast have been under rated. Two of those teams were hammered by injuries and departures. All 3 have big names returning for the season (Fyfe, Ablett, Ryder).

Geelong, Adelaide and Collingwood are the teams that look to have been over rated. I’m happy with that. My gut felt that the Hawks were going to take a bigger slide than what is indicated but that is just me.

The expected wins also can offer a bit of a window into the Brownlow Medal winner. The winner normally comes from a team that isn’t full of superstars but wins more than it loses. Teams that fall in to the 13-11 range are Freo, West Coast, Port, Melbourne, Hawthorn. So players we need to really consider are Fyfe ($9), S Mitchell ($15), Priddis ($23), Wines ($67), Gray ($21) , Viney ($51), T Mitchell ($51). Obviously there are a few guns on either side of the equation that poll well regardless. There’s just more likelihood of team mates stealing votes or not winning enough games to poll well.

For mine I can’t go past Fyfe. He’s an out and out superstar and Freo are going rely very heavily on him. The darkhorse is Tom Mitchell. He’s going to get a ton of the footy this year and he could be the only shining light during Hawthorn’s downward spiral. $51 is worth a flutter.

On to round 1. Below you will find the tips and prospective margins. Remember, this is a guide and it is more to help you with picking the lines. The further away the predicted margin is from the line the better. Weather is always going to have an effect and will bring a score closer so keep that in mind.
      upload_2017-3-23_13-26-1.png

Once again, do with it what you will. Agree or disagree? Let me know about it on Facebook

      Tip of the round

      FRE -14.5 v GEE @ $1.92

      Multi of the round

      FRE -14.5/ PA +25.5/ WCE -16.5/ RIC -11.5 @ $13.58

I’ll try and update the FB page with player props as the come up. I hate that I have Richmond in the first multi of the year. Fingers crossed!

      Good luck and happy punting!!!

Hasnt been much discussed about Ainsworth and Simpkin, now that they are named is anybody jumping on board? Are they fantasy relevant? Particularly Ainsworth.

Brisbane Lions have placed Sam Skinner on the long-term injury list and upgraded Jake Barrett from the rookie list as his replacement.

Melbourne has upgraded Joel Smith from the rookie list as the replacement for Mitch King, who was already on the long-term injury list.

Sydney Swans have upgraded Shaun Edwards from the rookie list to replace Gary Rohan, who was already on the long-term injury list.

Interesting to note that on the AFL site their "Full teams first" article has gone up, and while mainly blank they didn't take out the bullet points below the picture. None of them are too surprising but still.

      • Jobe Watson among banned Dons officially back
      • Drew Petrie named for clash against old side
      • Sloane, Tex in Crows' squad

      • Saints name key recruits

you are correct benny01, I assume he can be upgraded between now and 630pm if he is going to play Round 1.
