The pre-season is almost over and we await announcement of the Carlton vs Richmond sides on Wednesday night and 22/25 man sides for the rest on Thursday night.

7 man interchanges for Sunday squads are normally officially cut by 5pm Friday, although for Round 1 there are often Round 1 debutant stories on afl.com.au and club websites.
    -----
Here is a table of the most popular SC rookie options (including floating donuts) by position and game sequence up to and including David Swallow at $280k, with their JLT stats (games, avg, tog avg), ownership % per SC Gold as of Sunday night and page # in the 2017 prospectus.

    rookies.png
Note Mountford (2 JLT games, average 60 from 51% TOG, prospectus page 261) for NM and Joel Smith (2, 64, 76%, page 248) for Melbourne have been named as debuting but are not included in the above table.

Feel free to comment or pose questions below as teams drop or if you are aware of the all important rookie elevations which signal which rookie listed players are in the frame for Round 1

and remember that Rate my team advice can be sought at http://tooserious.net/forum/threads/rate-my-team-2017.89779/

Good luck as you make your last minute Round 1 decisions peeps !

R3, otherwise the prefect pick :)

Do you think it is worth trying to get Butler's score on field at the expense of a named rookie like Houston? I could bring in Darcy Cameron, but I don't know if it's the smart move to bank the points or whether I'm just chasing early points at the expense of cash generation.

I also took a punt on SPS and while he faded out of the game a bit, he looked really promising. I'm still happy with the pick considering the lack of mid rookies and, once match fit, I think he could score really well. He likes the contest.

SPS will be fine, first game of the year and spent a lot of time fwd of the ball in the 2nd half.

Gone against trying to get Butler's score, I don't want to bring in a sub-par rookie just to get it

Thought I'd stumbled across a missed rookie with Darragh Joyce ($102k DEF) in green lights on the official supercoach site, however no-where to be seen on the team sheets o_O

i agree unless your team were already planning a F/R or F/M FD there is no use bringing one in just to grab 40-50 points when the $$$ you foregoe is worth much more long term

I think it depends on the quality of the rookie you're bringing in, and how they fit into your team. Personally, I'll be going Cameron. He should play, and will slot into my R3 position in the future when I downgrade Witts (Assuming he doesn't make enough cash on his own to warrant trading out himself later)

This game is a game of 1000 cuts. Gotta eek out every last point you can :D

Don't be crazy guys! Bringing in a non playing rookie for a decent Rnd 1 score is cutting into your growth.
You want to fatten those rookies up so you can sell them back at inflated prices. Can't have them sitting there giving you donuts.

Great to hear different perspectives. Lots to consider! I guess it comes down to is Cameron going to make as much cash as Houston? If so, I'd be silly not to pick him and bank the 94 points. However, it is still a risk as Cameron is no guarantee to slot straight into a strong Sydney side who will win on the weekend. You don't want all rookies maturing at the same time though so a spread could be good. I already have Strandica at R3 for loophole purposes.

Maybe it's supposed to be Jesse Joyce from the Suns who's been named back pocket.

Darragh Joyce is an Irish rookie for St Kilda. Is nowhere near a game unfortunately so make sure you don't pick him!

Who would everyone here have on the FWD bench if not considering Cameron?

I have Eddy and Parfitt at the moment but only bought in Parfitt cause he's named and Cameron isn't. You guys seem to rate Houston pretty well?

My F5-F8 are Taranto F5, Houston F6, Butler F7(E), Eddy F8 (with Parffit, Florent and Picket as F/M's in the guts). Depending on your structure Shoenmakers and Hannan should also be considered as cheapies.

Bowes, Ainsworth are F/M's and Simpkin, Turner, WHE, McCarthy are F's but are all probably too expensive to consider as bench players.

Maybe Cameron, Balic or Deluca if you are considering a Floating Donut ?

      Thanks Mate.

At the moment my FWD line is Dahl, Buddy, Roughy, Steele, Nank, Butler, Eddy & Parfitt, with Florent and Picket in the mids.

I had Cameron in there over Parfitt for most of the pre-season but when he wasn't named I got concerned. Do you rate Houston over either Parfitt or Cameron?
