I wish it was a scoreboard malfunction but it was a very consistent Croc outfit across all lines, imagine the score line with Lycett & Cameron in the mix, well done @fresh
The Smugglers have left it until their season is over to finally click into gear, accounting for Eden, 1403 - 1018. @HOLKY
Full Time at Eden Sporting Complex and Christmas Island have won 1402-1025. Once again, a number of players fell short with 6 not even making 52 (Papley doesn't count as he is OOP). It just seems that we can't get enough consistency to get a decent score, even with good players. As for Christmas Island, they face Nuytsland next week and still have finals to play for and they played well with 5 scores over 100 and a minimum of 66 which outscored half the team. In what was billed as one of the contests of the year, the crowd down in The Crater were treated to some incredible individual performances but unfortunately for the home fans some horrendous defending and questionable management decisions meant the Buffaloes were soundly beaten Stung by mid-week criticism of his recent performances, the Big Mummy (120) got on top of would-be challenger Ryder (105) but not by enough to create any real advantage for the waiting midfielders. Captain Danger (141) did what he does best and dominated from all parts of the ground although the Sandgropers were not giving in without a fight and Cunnington (137), Fyfe (126) and co. ensured that things stayed close. In the first of some questionable decisions by Serengeti management, Scott Selwood was a late withdrawal and replaced in the midfield by Pittard (60) despite Polec being available who went on to put in a solid display in the reserves. There were plenty of winners for the Buffaloes with the forward line group recapturing some early season form lead by Jumping Jack (117). Zac Merrett (120) was also a highlight, backing up after some questionable close checking tactics in his previous match. However they were ultimately let down by an underperforming backline who fell to pieces when their leader Steven May (15) went off injured early in the game. Haynes (94) did his best to stop the bleeding as he continues his recovery from injury but Harbrow (43) and Langdon (54) were impacted far too heavily from the sight of Steven limping off in performances that would ultimately prove costly to the end result. These disgraceful efforts were made to look even worse when Gleeson and Witherden went on to dominate in the reserves match and pose more questions of the Serengeti management team. The poor efforts from the Serengeti backline were in stark contrast to what was going on up the other end where Hurley (133) and Hibberd (124) were having a field day. In what turned out to be a real shoot-out, @eagle_eyed encouraged his Sandgropers to attack at all costs and even though the Buffalo forwards were able to take advantage of the offensive mindset, the drive that the Southern Cross defenders were able to generate proved the difference in a high-scoring affair. With the Barracudas also stumbling at home to the Crocs, Serengeti maintain their 3rd position on the ladder while Southern Cross leap into the top 2 and have announced themselves as a real contender for season 2017. Next week sees the Buffaloes look to rebound at home again to the bottom placed Prairie Dogs while the Sandgropers will look to continue their exciting run as they host a Bunyips team clinging to a place in the top 8. Final scores: Serengeti 1326 def by Southern Cross 1459 BAFFU votes 3 Dangerfield 141 (SB) 2 Cunnington 137 (SCS) 1 Hurley 133 (SCS)
Groote Eylandt (Barracudas) 1,117 defeated by Cow Bay (Crocs) 1,130 The question on everyone’s lips was “How to replace Patrick Cripps”. It was in the board room, it was in the media, on Twitter and in discussions on the interweb. This was the million-dollar question, would the answer the same or would the Barracudas be short changed? As the Crocs rolled in they could smell it, what was it? it was fear! For the visitors Lycett was a late out and they left the tap work to young Keays who was out gunned by Stanley. The Crocs young brigade are coming into their own with Patton leading the way up forward kicking 2 and having plenty of the pill. Martin also bagged 2 in support while Gunston chipped in with 1 as he switched between defence and forward. MIA was Cameron. For the home side Burgoyne was the lose man playing through the midfield, young Weitering and Berry held their own ground however they were muscled out by big Jonny. The Cudas decided to rush back Murphy from injury, he was far too slow on the paddock. It was another battle in the middle were Lloyd was re-structured to fill the boots of the Corn Boy and he didn’t disappoint, Hanna’s and the Bont were hot and Zorko was a little less magnificent this week. For the Crocs, this young team is coming of age with Blakely, De Goey and Libba all lifting to be on fire with Tucker manning up in a lock down roll. Off the bench gun Captain Cotchin picked up 28 possessions and Lewis was on fire providing drive and muscle from the wing especially on the opposing hard man Roberston while McKenna fell away. With Waite, still on the injury list for the Cudas the goal kicking was left to spearhead Hawkins unfortunately he couldn’t make space being locked down by Dunn. When your full forward can’t kick goals, you know you’re in trouble and the Crocs knew it. With a bask of young Crocs in Jones, McGrath and McDonald tag teaming well the Cudas inexperienced Hannan and Long didn’t stand a chance while Cripps of the Jamie variety stood tall however couldn’t covert either. As they say in footy circles, attack starts in defence and the visitors @fresh had it in spades as they gobbled up the home side in a 13-point win. The Crocs will bask in the glory on taking on and taking down the Barracudas. The home sides depth was tested, many questions will be asked, was it too early for Murphy, where was Guthrie, will the Waite be over in a return and where to from here for the Cudas. BOG awards 3 Trent Cotchin (123) 2 Connor Blakely (121) 1 Marcus Bontempelli (120)
Thanks for the write up @YAD69. I still think we saw an uncharacteriscally undisciplined performace from the Cudas and, with the help of the local shaman, the Crocs managed to conjure a miracle of sorts to take home the 4 points. I don't think I can quite believe how well the team has been going this year. It's a relief finally seeing the team off the bottom of the ladder, with more than 1 win next to my name and more W's than L's in the recent results column.
Match Review, Round 17, Coolgardie Prospectors v Blanchetown Bunyips @martyg It was a close one in Coolgardie, with the locals coming out 30-point winners, in a but of a surprise for everyone involved. To begin the analysis, lets go back to my prediction before the match... The simplistic view is that, if everyone scores their average then: Coolgardie - 212, 337, 100, 326, 128 = 1103 Blanchetown - 315, 362, 94, 292, 139 = 1202 It should be a very comfortable win to the visitors. Read more at http://tooserious.net/forum/threads/2017-round-by-round-chat.89801/page-25#2PvRBi21OMqpkU1s.99 ...and now the actual game: Defence: Coolgardie - The round started with a pair of 81's for the Prospectors, for both M Baguley and H Perryman, while D Astbury chimed in with 73. Then we got to the expected withdrawal of J Smith, and it was left to J Redpath to keep the visitors in it, scoring just 20 points, which then got halved to 10 measly points! Blanchetown - It was all smiles for the visitors when R Laird scored 121 points, to lead the side from behind, but then S D Thompson (58), J Geary (43), and S Frost (25) failed to put up even the slightest resistance, and the smile quickly disappeared from the coaches face. Geary, you are on notice you friggin spud. Read more at http://tooserious.net/forum/threads/2017-round-by-round-chat.89801/page-26#Jm0HSIxXB2C8JsMJ.99 If that doesn't illustrate the coaches discontent with his players, then I don't know what does! Blanchetown won by 2 points, 247 to 245. Midfield: Coolgardie - B Ebert put in a BoG performance with 148 points to lead the Prospectors midfield. O Wines (118) also starred, while T Miller (81) is slowly filling JPK's shoes, and B Parfitt (53) is showing promise in his first year, although the longing for Jaeger continues! Blanchetown - "Old Man" J Kelly (116) put in a stellar performance, but saw the rest of his midfield teammates go missing, with S Pendlebury (83) injured and potentially missing the rest of the season, R Gray (81) showing that inconsistency has become his norm, and J Ziebell (75) redefining "average". Coolgardie won by 45 points, 400 to 355. Rucks: Coolgardie - Stefan Martin (86) has fallen in a bit of a rut recently, and we need him to snap out of it quick smart! Blanchetown - Although its nothing like the Sam Jacobs (60) rut, and we in the Goldfields are happy about that! Coolgardie won by 26 points, 86 to 60. Forwards: Coolgardie - Spearhead J Westhoff (114) led the Prospectors forward line very well, and was ably supported by M Wright (84), and D Petrie (79), while O Fantasia (68) is another player who needs to improve his consistency. Blanchetown - You could throw a blanket across the Bunyips forwards, with C Cameron (89) leading the way, while J Stewart and K Lambert each scored 83, and D Houston (55) brought up the rear with another below average performance. Coolgardie won by 35 points, 345 to 310. Interchange: Coolgardie - The bench for the locals was a disaster zone, with J Sicily (46) and M Daw (41) doing their best to lose the game. Blanchetown - A much better effort for the visitors here, with W Langford (82) and S Naismith (79) putting in solid performances. What will really frustrate the coach is having S Atley running around in the ressies with 91 points to his name (and a potential match-winning replacement for S Frost down back!) Blanchetown won by 74 points, 161 to 87. So, lets compare the pre-match averages to the actuals: Coolgardie - 212, 337, 100, 326, 128 = 1103 Blanchetown - 315, 362, 94, 292, 139 = 1202 Coolgardie - 245, 400, 86, 345, 87 = 1163 Blanchetown - 247, 355, 60, 310, 161 = 1133 Clearly the Prospectors over-achieved, while the Bunyips were well short, and should consider themselves unlucky. Line by line sees the Prospectors defence do well, and the Bunyips defence suffer. The Prospectors mids did very well, while the Bunyips were just a little short. Both ruckmen were particularly average. The Prospectors forwards shone, as did the Bunyips boys. The local bench was a disgrace, while the visitors pine was a success! As a side not for this game, a low 80's score was the norm, with 4x 81, 1x 82, 3x 83, and 1x 84 points scored (or 9 of 30 players scoring within 4 points of each-other). The votes go to: 3 - B Ebert, Coolgardie, 148 2 - R Laird, Blanchetown, 121 1 - O Wines, Coolgardie, 118 Big tap award: S Martin, Coolgardie, defeated S Jacobs, Blanchetown, by 86 points to 60. Up next the Coolgardie Prospectors are off to north-east Victoria, to take on the Staghorn Flat Bulls. Meanwhile the Blanchetown Bunyips have taken a camel ride just down the road, in their Goldfields expedition, to take on the Southern Cross Sandgropers. Good luck to all teams.
Thanks mate, great write up. Pendles gone from 3 weeks to the rest of season - we are done and dusted. Time to start looking at early draft picks!
Bulls Dillos Match Report In a dour affair at Mill Park it was the favourites in the Dillos that scraped over the line against an undermanned Bulls outfit. Ararat - 1193 Saghorn Flat - 1072 In a match up with very few highlights it was the classy work of Chad Wingard (BOG - 157SC) & Bulls tormentor Shane Edwards up forward (97sc) which proved the difference as they torched the 2.5 Bulls defenders that turned up fro the clash. Across the rest of ground Big Boy McEvoy (105sc) gave the Bulls first use of the ball as he dominated Maxy Gawn who continues his struggles since returning from injury. In the same boat as Maxy Gawn (57sc), Tom Rockliff is not the same player post his shoulder injury as he also struggled to 57 points. Treloar & Whitfield went blow for blow whilst Swallow & Gibbs had an enthralling duel. On the outside B Hill got the better of young Parish. Ultimately 13.5 players should never get the job done against a full compliment and that proved true. For the Bulls its all but curtains for 2017 after a season which began which such promise has unravelled in a major fashion leaving this coach searching for answers. On a brighter note the team looks hopeful of recalling injured stars Coniglio (for only game three this year) and classy defender Salem in the next fortnight albeit too late in this campaign. Mackie and Wood will also be looking for recalls from injury and suspension, For the Dillos another finals appearance is a lay down misere for finals action in 2017 as they quietly go about their business. Next week they will look at ending the revamped Blowflies finals chances in another danger game for the boys from Ararat. The Votes 3 Wingard (AA) 2 Treloar (AA) 1 McEvoy (SFB) Big Tap - Big Boy McEvoy defeats Maxy 'Clean Snap' Gawn
@choppers Nuytsland had the home ground advantage at Viking Land as no flights were allowed in or out, while the visitors had the long trip down the West Australian coast on a rickety boat travelling from Thailand. Grundy 77 left a lot to be desired as out of position Knight 35 nearly took honors unfortunately he gave up half his points. Ex Viking Adams 125 lead all comers down back while another ex Viking Tuohy 88 has been in career best form since transferring clubs and Suckling 93 almost rose his bat. Home team Roberton 101 was the only stand out performance giving the Barcrawlers an early taste of changy beer. Ex Viking and injury prone Hanley 63 failed to fire Lyons 43 well down on his yearly average the taste of chang was disappearing, while surprise packet Sam Gray 126 put his name sake to shame. Vikings midfield misfired with two scores in the 60's as current MVP favourite TMitchell 136 another stellar outing and Crouch 105 becoming the reliable digger. Both forward lines failed miserably with only Heeney 103 and Barcrawler two metre Peter 93 worth noting. An embarrassment on the interchange as Sexton 11 took the blue pill and Barass 61 was work man like. This is where the home team ran away with victory SMitchell 93 and recent pooya winner McLean 115 is making up for Viney's absence. Vikings keep top spot alive while Barcrawlers now outright second last 3.TMitchell 136 2.SGray 126 1.TAdams 125 Big Tap Grundy 77.
